Transcript of What is Apple Pay | Judo payments
Hi, and welcome back to the Judo wall.
As everybody here should know, Apple Pay was launched in the UK following a successful launch in the US. We're doing a series of very short videos that gives you an overview of what Apple Pay is, why it matters to you, and then give you some early information that will help you integrate it into apps that you may be building. But remember, if you want to know all of the details, contact the experts at Judo to help you get through.
But very simply first, what is Apple Pay?
For all intents and purposes, Apple Pay is a mobile wallet. It allows you to store your card digitally in the cloud and then process transactions both in store, and in app.
Right now, you can use two phones to do that, the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus. You can also use certain iPads, the Air 2 and the Mini 3, and you'll be able to use Apple Pay on all subsequent Apple devices. But for most of us, it's going to be the phones that we use Apple Pay on.
So first, what happens in the store? Well, in the UK Market, contact list cards have been fairly popular for a while. So think through that experience when you walk into a store and the transaction was less than about £20. You're able to just tap your card to the terminal and it completes the transaction quite quickly. With Apple Pay, it has a similar technology. Using NFC, you tap your phone to the device and it will function exactly as a contactless payment would.
Well that's going to be a known user experience here in the UK and at Juno what we're really excited for and where we see a much bigger impact, is in app payments. So what we mean by in app payments is when you're using an app like Uber, or Starbucks, or Harris and Hoole, or KFC and you want to complete a transaction.
Well, Apple Pay there not only makes it easy to pay, it also allows you to skip the registration step in many instances. So when you complete your order or identify that you want a taxi currently, you'll be able to select Apple Pay as one of your checkout mechanisms and hold your thumbprint to the touch ID and it will complete the transaction immediately.
We'll show some real live examples as we go out into the town and see Apple Pay in action as we go forward. If you have any questions about how Apple Pay works, you should contact our experts. We're large partners for Apple Pay here in the UK and we'll continue to work with them globally as we roll out across the territories.
Thanks for joining and don't forget to contact us with any questions.
