Should my financial targets be transparent? A simple trick to increase transparency.

Most of the executives that are considering to implement OKR, say that they expect OKR to make their organization more transparent. Within the OKR methodology, it is indeed a best practice to make all your goals and OKRs transparent and visible to everybody in your company. However, when these executives start drafting their first Company OKRs, some of them all of a sudden feel uncomfortable sharing financial targets company-wide. If you didn't have that level of transparency before, I understand you may feel anxious sharing key financial figures. There is a simple solution to this. First of all, financial targets are important. A lot of different people will be involved in trying to meet those targets. Therefore, it is crucial that all these people will be able to see if the company is on track to meet them. If you don’t want to share the targets in real numbers, you can easily set them up as a relative value, you can measure them for instance in terms of a percentage growth. That way, no one in the organization knows the exact numbers but everyone will be able to see if the company is on track to meet its targets.
