Fascinating excavation finds at Jerusalem's Tower of David

02:15
‘Everyone knows that Jerusalem is made upon layer upon layer of history. In this very small place we have all that history.’ The old Ottoman Kishle building, adjacent to Jerusalem’s Tower of David Museum near the Jaffa Gate, opened to the public. The attraction isn’t so much the 19th century edifice itself; that’s not so old for Israel. The fascinating part is what likes underneath its floors -- basically the timeline of Jerusalem spanning close to 3,000 years. Tower of David Museum spokeswoman Caroline Shapiro says, “I don't know if there's anywhere else in Jerusalem that really shows a timeline quite like this. Everyone knows that Jerusalem is made upon layer upon layer of history. In this very small place we have all that history; the stone is witness to so many momentous occasions in the history of the city.” --- Visit the MFA's Social Media Channels: Facebook - http://www.facebook.com/IsraelMFA http://www.facebook.com/IsraeliVibe Twitter - http://www.twitter.com/Israel http://www.twitter.com/IsraelMFA Find us on Instagram: @IsraelMFA - http://instagram.com/israelmfa @StateofIsrael - http://instagram.com/stateofisrael Add us on google+ https://plus.google.com/+Israel Pinterest https://www.pinterest.com/israelmfa/ Vine http://www.vine.co/Israelmfa Have you subscribed to our channel yet? please do! http://www.youtube.com/Israel Please credit Israel MFA for any use of this video.

Grow More with Less (Water)

02:56
Back in the 1950s, an Israeli engineer and inventor developed the first modern drip irrigation system. It was a much-needed invention in the arid climate and water scarcity faced by a Middle Eastern nation. And, today, it is probably the world's most valued agro-technology. Since then, Israeli experts have come up with many new and innovative agricultural technologies for optimal water usage and conservation, with one major goal in mind: grow more with less.

Israel serves as a land bridge between three continents: Africa, Asia and Europe. Its diversified climate – from the alpine Mt. Hermon in the north, to the arid sandy deserts in the south – supports many different habitats, which explains how Israel, with its small area, can play host to more than 500 different types of birds. The Hula Valley Bird Festival is an initiative of the Israel Ornithological Center. The festival aims to highlight the fantastic birding opportunities Northern Israel and the Hula Valley in particular can offer.

Bahuas architecture was influenced by the German Bauhaus art school, one of the most prominent modernist art schools of the 20th century. Tel Aviv is known as the "White City" referring to its 4,000 Bauhaus style structures which are mostly white. These restored buildings combine industrial design and modern art and are the largest collection of Bauhaus buildings worldwide. A thriving fish industry... in the Israeli desert

02:13
http://www.israel.org Where can you find Nemo? In Israel's Arava desert, where aquaculture is blooming despite a dearth of fresh water. Israel's Arava desert gets just 30 millimeters of rainfall a year, but it produces 60 percent of Israel's fresh vegetable exports, 10% of cut flower exports ... and now it has a thriving ornamental fish industry, too. "The desert is dry and all the water that we have here first of all is water that we drill here in the Arava; we're not connected to a national water system," explains Alon Gadiel, director Arava Research and Development Center. Yet Israel is in the top six exporting countries for aquarium fish, and there are now 18 fish farms in the Arava. Three of them breed the clownfish better known as Nemos because of the hit movie "Finding Nemo." "A business like aquaculture is a very good business because you don't need a lot of land, and you don't need a lot of water. You need a lot of knowledge," says Gadiel. In addition, he stresses, "We breed fish that originally grow in the sea, and we sell them from captivity so we prevent harming the ecosystem." A Virtual Passover Pilgrimage to Jerusalem's Old City

02:13
http://www.israel.org Passover, one of Judaism's three pilgrimage festivals, commemorates the liberation of the Israelites from slavery in ancient Egypt. Throughout the holiday, and especially at the festive Seder dinner, Jews around the world relive the experiences of their ancestors, passing on their traditions to the next generation. For thousands of years, every Seder has ended with the prayer "Next year in Jerusalem," expressing the eternal tie between the Jewish people and their capital, the holy city of Jerusalem. This is the perfect time to take a virtual stroll through Jewish sites in Jerusalem's Old City. This year (2014), the seven day holiday is celebrated from sundown on Monday, April 15th until nightfall on Monday, April 21nd. Enjoy the German Colony, a trendy Jerusalem neighborhood

"You have restaurants, you have a couple of bars, you have good places to sit, nice cafés, different things to do." Emek Refaim (which can mean "Valley of Ghosts" or "Valley of Giants") was built by 19th century Christian German Templers, and many of those original stone structures still dominate the quaint street. The German Colony is alive at all hours with residents and tourists visiting its cafés, restaurants, bakeries and boutiques. Inventing Health: Israeli Innovations in Life Sciences - Part 1

05:27
Israel is a world leader in both innovation and medicine. Combine the two and you get great inventions that prevent, heal and monitor many health conditions. Ever wonder how the Chilean miners trapped underground for 69 days kept their feet from smelling or getting infected? An Israeli innovation involving the use of copper in textiles not only helped them but can also reduce hospital infections greatly. Need to check your temperature, blood sugar or EEG in an instant? A new smartphone now does all that and more. Want to correct a baby's MTA deformities in 6 weeks, without the need for heavy braces on his legs? A small brace on the foot will do it. These are just a few of the innovations on display, in this, the first of two videos about Israeli innovation in life sciences. ---------------------------------------------------- Visit the MFA's Social Media Channels: Facebook - http://www.facebook.com/IsraelMFA http://www.facebook.com/IsraeliVibe Twitter - http://www.twitter.com/Israel http://www.twitter.com/IsraelMFA Find us on Instagram: @IsraelMFA - http://instagram.com/israelmfa @StateofIsrael - http://instagram.com/stateofisrael Add us on google+ https://plus.google.com/+Israel Have you subscribed to your channel yet? please do! http://www.youtube.com/Israel Please credit the MFA for any use of this video.

Songs and stories were written about the market that dates back to the 19th Century, and its history is closely intertwined with the story of the city of Jerusalem. The Jerusalem Light Rail

02:05
A 21st century way to commute through an ancient city. Running from the northern edge of Jerusalem to Mount Herzl in the south, with further extensions planned, the electrified Jerusalem Light Rail has changed the face of transportation in the ancient city. The Light Rail runs 13.9 kilometers (8.6 miles) through the capital, stopping at most major tourist sites and connecting with bus lines. It's a great way to meet the people of Jerusalem and get a real feel for life in the city. As one passenger notes on this video: "It's good to see that they've got signs and announcements in Hebrew, English and Arabic so it's inclusive of everyone. It's really good." --------------------------------------------------------- Visit the MFA's Social Media Channels: Facebook - http://www.facebook.com/IsraelMFA http://www.facebook.com/IsraeliVibe Twitter - http://www.twitter.com/Israel http://www.twitter.com/IsraelMFA Find us on Instagram: @IsraelMFA - http://instagram.com/israelmfa @StateofIsrael - http://instagram.com/stateofisrael Add us on google+ https://plus.google.com/+Israel Have you subscribed to your channel yet? please do! http://www.youtube.com/Israel Please credit the MFA for any use of this video.
