Management vs Leadership

05:34
This videos looks at management vs leadership skills by comparing the similarities and differences between leaders and managers to give you the opportunity to see where you fit the picture. FREE 7 Instant Tips for Confident & Composed Public Speaking http://bit.ly/2M1NfVE-SpeakingTips Before digging in, the first takeaway is that managers are tied to an official position. Leaders can lead from anywhere. Further, there are no 100% managers or 100% leaders. Virtually everybody has to do some aspect of both. Managers: - Control mindset - Administration of process and resources - Want to maintain the status quo - Task-focused Leaders: - Persuasive communication - Want to take us from "here to there" - Take Risks - People focused Sources Consulted: Alex Lyon's Book: Case Studies in Courageous Communication: https://www.amazon.com/Case-Studies-Courageous-Organizational-Communication/dp/1433131242/ref=tmm_hrd_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1483651791&sr=1-1 https://www.amazon.com/Leading-Here-There-Study-Guide/dp/0310080878/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1486765986&sr=8-1&keywords=from+here+to+there+bill+hybels http://guides.wsj.com/management/developing-a-leadership-style/what-is-the-difference-between-management-and-leadership/ http://www.educational-business-articles.com/leadership-versus-management/ https://www.simplilearn.com/leadership-vs-management-difference-article https://www.resourcefulmanager.com/leaders-vs-managers/ https://hbr.org/2013/08/tests-of-a-leadership-transiti My Current Camera Gear (Affiliate Links): Camera Rebel T5i https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BW6LWO4/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=alexlyon-20&camp=1789&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B00BW6LWO4&linkId=504e12f13100f143d4df4e79731f206a Lens Canon 50mm: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00X8MRBCW/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=alexlyon-20&camp=1789&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B00X8MRBCW&linkId=b0bfb7ea7439df39e744bfd303c53fee Lavalier Microphone Rode Smartlav+: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EO4A7L0/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=alexlyon-20&camp=1789&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B00EO4A7L0&linkId=c29c80d531374d347f8a78498b34d05d Audio Recorder: Tascam DR-05: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004OU2IQG/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=alexlyon-20&camp=1789&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=B004OU2IQG&linkId=578b149b5807f2ec0f7f16c18e1c34f4
How hierarchies help & hamper us in creating great organizations | Markus Reitzig | TEDxFHKufstein

17:18
You may know the feeling: too many folks seem to care too much about promotions and moving up the corporate ladder. The hierarchy in your workplace exerts an almost gravitational pull towards the top, even among those who never wanted to become bosses initially. But it does not seem to benefit the organization eventually, and creates a divide between the bottom and the top. Markus Reitzig, Professor of Management, explains what hierarchies do to our behavior, and how we should use them effectively to create competitive organizations instead of “boats full of captains with no sailors”. Markus Reitzig, a professor at the University of Vienna, is focusing on strategic management of innovative business models and new technologies – journals such as Harvard Business Review, Academy of Management Review and McKinsey Quarterly published his articles. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx

His model of organizational culture looks at, among other things, levels of culture including artifacts, values, and underlying assumptions. Edgar Schien's three levels of organizational culture is referenced in scores of books and thousands of articles seeking answers to the question, What is organizational culture and why does it matter? Super exciting right? -The Girls: This one is for anything to do with my daughters. Important school documents, gymnastics bills, and bills related to things they need. I do not put kid artwork here. -Ash School & Blog: My teaching job and blog have a lot of papers such as: teaching contracts, important school calendars, and other documents related to my blog and youtube channel. -Health Care & Dogs: This is where I keep all my medical bills, health insurance documents, health savings account paperwork, and as you can tell my dogs health info too. -Home Bills & Insurance: This is for all those misleanious utility bills like water, electric, gas, trash, cable, etc. Along with home insurance. I also keep other home service items here for businesses we've used in the past for our home (carpet cleaning, tree service, etc.). -Bank & Retirement Accounts: This is for the documents related to all of our checking, savings and retirement accounts. -Warranties: You guessed it, warranties is the storing place for all the warranties that belong to various household appliances and gadgets. Trays below: -Needs Action: This is where I store bills to be paid, invitations that need an RSVP, or anything else that needs to be taken care of soon. Ideally it is kept empty and every time I file something, I give this tray a little glance just to make sure there's nothing I'm missing that needs action. -Coupons & Checkbooks: I had the hardest time remembering where I kept spare checkbooks as well as coupons for stores, so I created this main spot for them. Now I know where to look when I want to save some money or spend some money. -Office Supplies: Just some envelopes, stamps, and a personalized address stamper with our name. Boxes above: Pay stubs: This is mainly for my husband since he still gets paper copies of his paystubs. Mine are all electronic. Receipts: We toss all of our receipts in this box so that we can hold on to them if an item needs to be returned or if we want to recall what we bought. Obviously we have to clean it out now and again so it's not overflowing, but it's location works well for us. ____________________________ OTHER PLACES YOU CAN FIND ME: ♥READ MORE ON MY BLOG♥ http://www.ashleysgreenlife.com ♥MY DAUGHTER’S COOKING CHANNEL♥ Healthy Vegan Kid: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmIYin1u8VzfgBYKBSeB4lw ♥FOLLOW ME ON INSTAGRAM♥ ashleysgreenlife (https://instagram.com/ashleysgreenlife/) ♥PIN WITH ME ON PINTEREST♥ https://www.pinterest.com/ashleysgreenlife/ ♥SUBSCRIBE TO MY YOUTUBE CHANNEL♥ http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=ashleysgreenlife Please leave friendly comments or questions below! ____________________________ ATTENTION: At this time I’m not doing product reviews, but if you have any green-related questions please email at [email protected] Disclaimer: I purchased all the products mentioned with my own money. Kitchen Organization Ideas | Kitchen Storage Ideas | Kitchen Tips

07:06
In this video, I am going to share few tips to organise your kitchen. And will share my favourite kitchen organisers which can turn your kitchen super organised and easy to work on daily basis. 1. Use stair organiser to keep spices and condiments. This organiser keeps all the bottles visible and organised. 2. For top shelves of the cupboard where mostly our hands don’t reach use lazy Susan. 3. Get revolving Spice rack to save space. 4. Use Spice container to keep all daily need spices, salt and masalas. 5. Use Corner Shelve organiser to keep your Non-stick and Tawas segregated. 6. Get Plastic laundry basket to keep your monthly groceries. 7. Use folding rack plate organiser to utilise vertical space efficiently. 8. Similarly, over the cabinet baskets help to utilise vertical space efficiently. 9. Use corner shelve organiser to keep crockery. It fits perfectly in the corner of the cupboard and again helps saving vertical space and keep things segregated. 10. Get mesh magazine holder to keep chopping boards and trays. 11. Keep small baskets and holders to organise your snack cupboard. Categorise items and place them in baskets. 12. Always use cubical shape food containers instead of round shape. By using cubical shape containers, it is easy to stack on top of each other and it saves front and side space also. 13. Keep plastic, glass and steel food storage boxes on top of each other with the lid on as when in need you don’t have to fiddle around to find the exact lid of the container. 14. Get section box to keep miscellaneous small items like candles, food sticks, pizza seasoning and ketchup pouches. It will help to keep your drawer organised and items will remain segregated. 15. Must haves in the kitchen are these Ziploc bags and clips. Ziploc bags will help food stay fresh and these clips are very useful to tie opened snack packets and bread. 16. Get a small whiteboard in the kitchen to write your grocery and vegetable shopping list. 17. Get carry bag dispenser to store all those small poly bags which comes with the vegetable, fruits and grocery shopping. 18. Get over the cabinet rack to keep your cleaning supplies. It can be easily fit any cabinet and can be shifted anywhere as per the requirement. 19. Get plastic drawer system to keep small kitchen items segregated. All Up In Yo' Business: Is My LLC Member- Managed or Manager-Managed?

07:52
When forming an LLC, one of the things that a business owner, hopefully with the help of an attorney, must decide is whether the LLC should be member-managed or manager-managed. The owners of an LLC are called "members," and the amount of involvement in the day-to-day operations of the business of each member is going to be the determining factor in whether an LLC is member- or manager-managed. Member-managed LLC: This is most common. Select this if all of the members (or only you, if you are the sole member) are going to actively participate in the management and operations of the business. Almost all single-member LLCs will be member-managed, at least in the beginning. Manager-managed LLC: Select this if some of the owners are only investors providing financial support, and are not going to be involved in the day-to-day operations. Or if you are a sole member and you plan on hiring somebody else to take care of the business while you vacation and play golf all day (then call me and tell me what kind of business you are creating, because I want to do it, too). How do you define a learning organization? by Peter Senge, Author of The Fifth Discipline

05:39
Peter Senge is a Senior Lecturer in Leadership and Sustainability at the MIT Sloan School of Management. The Journal of Business Strategy (September/October 1999) named Senge one of the 24 people who has had the greatest influence on business strategy over the last 100 years. The Financial Times (2000) named him one of the world’s top management gurus, andBusinessWeek (October 2001) rated Senge one of the top 10 management gurus. Senge has lectured extensively throughout the world, translating the abstract ideas of systems theory into tools for better understanding of economic and organizational change. He studies decentralizing the role of leadership in organizations so as to enhance the ability of employees to work productively toward common goals, and the managerial and institutional changes needed to build more sustainable enterprises—those businesses that foster social and natural as well as economic well-being. Senge’s work articulates a cornerstone position of human values in the workplace: namely, that vision, purpose, reflectiveness, and systems thinking are essential if organizations are to realize their potential. He has worked with leaders in business, education, civil society, healthcare, and government. Senge is the founding chair of the Society for Organizational Learning (SoL), a global community of corporations, researchers, and consultants dedicated to the “interdependent development of people and their institutions.” He is the author of the widely acclaimed book, The Fifth Discipline: The Art and Practice of The Learning Organization (1990). With colleagues Charlotte Roberts, Rick Ross, Bryan Smith, and Art Kleiner, he is the co-author of The Fifth Discipline Fieldbook: Strategies and Tools for Building a Learning Organization (1994) and a second fieldbook The Dance of Change: The Challenges to Sustaining Momentum in Learning Organizations (March 1999), co-authored by George Roth. In September 2000, Senge co-authored a fieldbook on education, the award-winning Schools That Learn: A Fifth Discipline Fieldbook for Educators, Parents, and Everyone Who Cares About Education (2000). The Fifth Discipline hit a nerve within the business and education communities by introducing the theory of learning organizations. Since its publication, more than one million copies have been sold worldwide. In 1997, Harvard Business Review identified it as one of the seminal management books of the past 75 years. The Fifth Discipline Fieldbook was developed in response to questions from readers of The Fifth Discipline who wanted more help with tools, methods, and practical experiences in developing enhanced learning capabilities within their own companies. The Dance of Change is based on more recent experiences of companies developing learning capabilities over many years, and the strategies leaders develop to deal with the many challenges this work entails. He also has authored many articles published in both academic journals and the business press on systems thinking in management, and has co-authored Presence: Human Purpose and the Field of the Future. Senge holds a BS in engineering from Stanford University as well as an SM in social systems modeling and a PhD in management from MIT. #DESCRIPTION Peter Senge answers the question by first suggesting that “we jettison the jargon” and work on organizations where everyone works together successfully. He discusses how there are only two dominant factors within an organization: control or learning and the question is which one is dominant. He lays out the major factors that need to be present in order for an organization to be centered in learning. Almost everyone has spent some of their most precious commodity -- their time-- trying to learn how to better manage time. Despite hours spend studying the topic, there's now a record percentage of the population who feels there's always too little time and too much to do, no matter what they do. While better prioritizing one's time is the best answer for managing that time, many people are reluctant to embrace that answer, preferring to believe there must be another way: multi-tasking, working faster, working longer. The relentless refusal to make a distasteful choice are typically insanity-producing. The stress caused by continuing to try to "do it all" and "have it all" is a nationwide health crisis. Recognizing time for the scarcity it is, and then owning the decisions made around it are critical to restoring sanity to our hectic lives. There is a better way to live that brings true fulfillment and happiness in line with one's values. Taking back one's power over time is a freeing exercise. All you have is today. Use it wisely.

Employee training and development for improved performance

05:16
Training and development of employees for improved performance. It's extremely important for business owners and leaders to recognize the importance of training and development of their employees and to take a proactive approach. Every company has competition, whether local or global. Even if you don't have competition because your product is so unique and new, you are probably competing with yourself and against time and money. You can only develop a product so long before you run out of both. Training and Development Training and development is more important than ever for your organization to stay competitive and survive. Training and development challenges employees to grow and improve. We all have untapped potential that is waiting to be unleashed, and this can be directed towards activities that will have a high impact on the performance of the organization. Employees who do not receive training and development may become resistant to change and become stagnant. This can really have a negative impact on performance since technology is driving so many changes in work methods. Being Proactive Taking a proactive approach to employee training and development is best done by first setting goals for the organization and department. This will help you to determine where current skill levels of employees may be challenged towards achieving these goals and thus you can develop a training plan for the department an individual. Hard and Soft Skills When developing a training plan is important to look at the total person. We often breaks skills and to types, hard and soft. Hard skills are those that permit us to complete a task or activity, such as running a computer program operating machine, etc. A soft skill is a behavior that determines how an employee will approach a task and interact with others. This is often neglected when looking at training needs, but is extremely important for employee and team performance. Teamwork If you want to develop teamwork in your organization and department people must learn specific interpersonal skills so that discussions can take place on how to improve things towards goal achievement. Highly evolved teams can become autonomous in problem-solving, and continuously improving work processes on their own. One good example are the telephone companies here in Canada. Over the years, most of them have trained their employees on better customer service habits and on selling. I've noticed when calling the administrative department about a billing issue that the person handling my issue always try to upsell me to an additional service. This is obviously a behavior that was learned from a proactive organization. We've all had the experience of going into a store or restaurant and were served by staff members. The other ones who create a better customer experience by how they treat you the customer. Of course hiring the right person with the right attitude and personality is fundamental, but training people on the operations and how you expect them to behave is equally as important. Aging Workforce As the working population gets older is extremely important for organizations to continuously train and develop their employees in order for people to remain flexible, open positive and creative. This will allow the organization to meet its growth objectives and retain skilled talent. Initiative One of the key benefits from the training and development of employees is increased self-confidence and self-esteem. When people feel they are better equipped to tackle new tasks and use more of their abilities, they feel more confident. People with higher self-confidence and self-esteem take more risks, make more decisions and solve problems on their own. This leads to greater initiative and thus saves the manager time to focus on growth and improvement opportunities. What are the first 4 disciplines of a learning organization? Peter Senge

05:43
#DESCRIPTION Peter Senge goes into detail about the first four approaches or disciplines that organizations can utilize to build a learning organization including personal mastery, mental models, building shared vision, and team learning Subscribe for more SarderTV: http://bit.ly/1osk5yg Follow our Official Twitter: http://bit.ly/1tIwTzK Check out exclusive SarderTV content: Web - http://bit.ly/1xpv37D Facebook - http://on.fb.me/1EbljQi #ABOUT SARDERTV SarderTV is an independent, educational media company, focusing on the subjects that fascinate, inspire and teach executives. Whether they are service agreements, independent contractor agreements, subcontractor agreements, etc., most small businesses are going to need some sort of an agreement in place to operate safely (in the legal sense) and effectively. The type of small business you have will determine the types of agreements you will need to have in place. For example, as an attorney, I have a service agreement (called an Engagement Letter) with each and every client that makes it clear what I am going to be doing for the client, my fees, how the client can expect to be billed, what I expect or need from the client, my policies that affect the client, what happens if there is a disagreement between us, and so on and so forth. Most, if not all, small businesses that provide a service to their customers should, at a minimum, at least have a similar type of service agreement with their clients. It protects both the small business and the client. 9, 8, & 7. Licenses. Specifically, Tax Licenses, Business Licenses, and Other Licenses. Honestly, they are all equally important and depend largely on the nature of your small business. 6. Form 2553 (S Corp). This is the IRS form that needs to be filed if you want your small business to elect to be taxed as an S Corporation. Whether or not you need to file form 2553 is going to depend on whether it would make sense for you tax-wise to elect to be taxed as an S Corp. 5. Insurance (General Liability, Workers Comp, etc.). Every small business is going to need some type(s) of insurance. The type of insurance your small business will need also depends on what type of business you are operating. 4. Initial Resolution/Consent. Although this isn’t necessary (at least in Colorado) for all small businesses, it is usually a good idea to have an Initial Resolution or Initial Consent to Action when starting a small business in order to demonstrate that your business has adopted certain documents, like it’s Operating Agreement or Articles of Organization, and that you as the business owner have resolved to operate your business in accordance with those documents. 3. Form SS-4 (Federal Tax ID). IRS Form SS-4 Application for Employer Identification Number is the form that you file with the IRS to get a Federal Tax ID number (aka EIN or Employer Identification Number) for your small business. 2. Operating Agreement or By-Laws. Every LLC needs an Operating Agreement. Let me say that again in case you missed it: every LLC needs an Operating Agreement. Even if it is not required by statute (Colorado does not require it), it is still a vital internal document for your small business to have. An Operating Agreement is the internal document where the owner or owners (aka the members) agree on how the business is going to be operated, i.e., type and nature of business; what the business is going to do; how members are going to get paid; how distributions are going to be made; what will happen in the event of disagreement between the members; etc. All of this information is set forth in the Operating Agreement. The By-Laws of a corporation serve basically the same purpose as the Operating Agreement of an LLC. 1. Articles of Organization (or Articles of Incorporation). Every single LLC in existence must have Articles of Organization. I can say this with complete certainty because you will need to file Articles of Organization with the Secretary of State in order to create your LLC. Bottom line: if you did not file Articles of Organization, then you don’t have an LLC. Similarly, every corporation in existence must have Articles of Incorporation. The Articles of Organization or Incorporation are what brings the LLC or corporation into a legal existence. Without them, your small business, whether it is a corporation or an LLC, does not legally exist. Thumbs up & subscribe if you want more AUIYB! Follow Me! 20 SPACE-SAVING CLOTHES FOLDING IDEAS

13:03
FOLDING AND ORGANIZATION HACKS There was a time when nothing ground our gears like folding a simple t-shirt. However, those days are behind us. Thanks to the glory of crafts, and Japanese ingenuity, there’s a new technique for achieving the perfect fold—and it takes less than three seconds flat. To help you on your way to folding mastery, here’s a step-by-step guide on how to fold a shirt. Lay the t-shirt on a flat surface, with the neck facing your left. Find the halfway point between the top and bottom of the shirt. Pinch the shirt at the shoulder and the halfway point, about six inches from the inner seam. Swing your left arm under your right (don’t let go!) and pinch the bottom of the shirt. Your left hand should now be pinching both the bottom and the shoulder. Hold tight with both hands, and lift the shirt while uncrossing your arms. Tuck the left sleeve under the shirt when you lay it down, completing the fold. Easy as you like! ; ) TIMESTAMPS: 0:45 Jeans folding 3:47 Double trouble 7:11 Scarves parade 7:32 No more slipping down ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Our Social Media: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/5min.crafts/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/5.min.crafts/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/5m_crafts Subscribe to 5-Minute MAGIC: http://bit.ly/2ldditZ Subscribe to 5-Minute Crafts GIRLY: https://goo.gl/fWbJqz Subscribe 5-Minute Crafts KIDS: https://goo.gl/PEuLVt The Bright Side of Youtube: https://goo.gl/rQTJZz ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For more videos and articles visit: http://www.brightside.me Music by Epidemic Sound: https://www.epidemicsound.com/

What is systems thinking? by Peter Senge, Author of The Fifth Discipline

01:09
