Ari Fleischer, the former press secretary for President George W. Bush, took some time on the 16th anniversary of the invasion of Iraq to remind us that the Bush administration DID NOT lie us into the war, but instead everyone just got their intelligence wrong. This is another lie. We’re 16 years into this quagmire and those responsible for it still can’t admit that they weren’t honest with the American public. Ring of Fire’s Farron Cousins discusses this. 🌞 Need someone to talk to? Yesterday, mark the 16th anniversary from the date that the United States decided to invade Iraq. Ari Fleischer, George W. Bush has a press secretary during the run up to the Iraq war, decided to take the time not to commemorate the 4,500 dead US soldiers or the 300,000 dead Iraqi civilians and combatants, but instead took to Twitter, wrote a multi tweet thread about how nobody in the Bush administration lied us into the Iraq war. He swore up and down that no money lied. Stop saying we lied. Nobody lied. It's just that all the intelligence was bad. But we were telling the truth based on this intelligence that later turned out to not be true. So there was no intentional or malicious lying taking place by anyone within the Bush administration. So says Ari Fleischer the guy who helps spread the lies that got us into the Iraq war. Now, plenty of people on Twitter, plenty of articles came out. Everybody already refuted what Ari Fleischer had to say, because just like when he was press secretary, his entire litter, little, uh, Twitter screed was a lie. None of it was true except for the fact that, yeah, the intelligence agencies got it wrong. But what he left out was that not only did they get it wrong in some areas, but they actually had it right in plenty of other areas. It's just that the Bush administration chose to ignore those parts. Like when the intelligence officials came and said, hey, we can't find any evidence anywhere of nuclear weapons. And then Dick Cheney goes on TV and says, Oh yeah, there's no question Saddam has nuclear weapons. Or when Condalisa Rice went on TV and said, well, they've got all these aluminum tubes, and they're using those to build missiles. The probably nuclear missiles. Yeah. The intelligence community before those claims were made, told them these things aren't happening. So guess what, Ari, that is a malicious and intentional lie. The list is, is endless of all the lies this administration told to get us into Iraq. They lie to us in there. They didn't know how to get out of there. Once they got in there, they didn't even have an actual goal with this war other than George W. Bush. And Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld trying to finish what Bush's daddy started in the early nineties beyond that, they didn't know what to do. They didn't know how to get out, and that's why we still have American troops over there interact 16 years later. But the worst part of it all is that nobody from that administration is willing to admit that they weren't honest. Hell, back in, I think it was what, 2006 we got the Downing Street memo, maybe it was even 2005 were British officials, said that the u s is fixing intelligence around a specified goal of Iraq invasion. #rof #trofire #theringoffire #progressivenews

A Long Short War: The Postponed Liberation of Iraq is a collection of twenty two articles written by Christopher Hitchens for the online magazine Slate. His books: https://www.amazon.com/gp/search?ie=UTF8&tag=tra0c7-20&linkCode=ur2&linkId=b4216f8d575f9efdb4148e970de71890&camp=1789&creative=9325&index=books&keywords=hitchens The articles support the impending American led invasion of Iraq and were written between November 7, 2002 and April 18, 2003. In the preface, Hitchens is typically unapologetic about his pro-invasion stance (a stance which solidified the author's break with the anti-war leadership of modern American left), stating: "I began from the viewpoint of one who took the side of the Iraqi and Kurdish opposition to Saddam Hussein, who hoped for their victory, and who had come to believe that the chiefest and gravest mistake of Western and especially American statecraft had been to reconfirm Saddam Hussein in power in 1991" (Hitchens, v). Among the many individuals credited in the introduction are Barham Salih (a member of the Iraqi National Assembly and former prime minister of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan), Kanan Makiya (author of a number of books, including 1989's best-selling Republic of Fear) and Ahmad Chalabi (former deputy Prime Minister of Iraq). The essays are constructed in polemical, often vitriolic prose, and heap especial scorn on what Hitchens sees as the sickly masochism of the dovish Left, systematically addressing and dismissing the most popular of the antiwar arguments while tendering ordered expostulations of his own position. Turkey and France were heavily chastised, while a qualified defence of George W. Bush is mounted, in one essay against the charge that the US President merits the appellative "cowboy" and in another that he rushed his nation into war. "I used to call myself a single-issue voter on the essential question of defending civilization against its terrorist enemies and their totalitarian protectors," wrote Hitchens in 2008, "and on that 'issue' I hope I can continue to expose and oppose any ambiguity." Hitchens is seen by many as a "liberal hawk" comprising left-leaning commentators who supported the 2003 Invasion of Iraq. This informal grouping includes the British writers Nick Cohen, Johann Hari, David Aaronovitch, Norman Geras, Julie Burchill, and the Canadian Michael Ignatieff (see Euston Manifesto). Neoconservatives of the last decade are hesitant to embrace Hitchens as one of their own, in part because of his harsh criticisms of Ronald Reagan and his refusal to associate himself as such. Despite his many articles supporting the US invasion of Iraq, Hitchens made a brief return to The Nation just before the 2004 US presidential election and wrote that he was "slightly" for George W. Bush; shortly afterwards, Slate polled its staff on their positions on the candidates and mistakenly printed Hitchens' vote as pro-Kerry. Hitchens shifted his opinion to "neutral", saying: "It's absurd for liberals to talk as if Kristallnacht is impending with Bush, and it's unwise and indecent for Republicans to equate Kerry with capitulation. There's no one to whom he can surrender, is there? I think that the nature of the jihadist enemy will decide things in the end". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Long_Short_War:_The_Postponed_Liberation_of_Iraq

Yes, even wars have laws. To find out more, visit http://therulesofwar.org ******** Rules of War in a Nutshell - script Since the beginning, humans have resorted to violence as a way to settle disagreements. Yet through the ages, people from around the world have tried to limit the brutality of war. It was this humanitarian spirit that led to the First Geneva Convention of 1864,and to the birth of modern International Humanitarian Law. Setting the basic limits on how wars can be fought, these universal laws of war protect those not fighting, as well as those no longer able to. To do this, a distinction must always be made between who or what may be attacked, and who or what must be spared and protected. - CIVILIANS - Most importantly, civilians can never be targeted. To do so is a war crime. “When they drove into our village, they shouted that they were going to kill everyone. I was so scared, I ran to hide in the bush. I heard my mother screaming. I thought I would never see her again.” Every possible care must be taken to avoid harming civilians or destroying things essential for their survival. They have a right to receive the help they need. - DETAINEES - “The conditions prisoners lived in never used to bother me. People like him were the reason my brother was dead. He was the enemy and was nothing to me. But then I realized that behind bars, he was out of action and no longer a threat to me or my family.” The laws of war prohibit torture and other ill-treatment of detainees, whatever their past. They must be given food and water and allowed to communicate with loved ones. This preserves their dignity and keeps them alive. - SICK & WOUNDED - Medical workers save lives, sometimes in the most dangerous conditions. “Several fighters from both sides had been critically wounded in a fierce battle and we were taking them to the closest hospital. At a checkpoint, a soldier threatened us, demanding that we only treat his men. Time was running out and I was afraid they were all going to die.” Medical workers must always be allowed to do their job and the Red Cross or Red Crescent must not be attacked. The sick or wounded have a right to be cared for, regardless of whose side they are on. - LIMITS TO WARFARE - Advances in weapons technology has meant that the rules of war have also had to adapt. Because some weapons and methods of warfare don't distinguish between fighters and civilians, limits on their use have been agreed. In the future, wars may be fought with fully autonomous robots. But will such robots ever have the ability to distinguish between a military target and someone who must never be attacked? No matter how sophisticated weapons become it is essential that they are in line with the rules of war. International Humanitarian Law is all about making choices that preserve a minimum of human dignity in times of war, and makes sure that living together again is possible once the last bullet has been shot.

I had some help from a clueless President George W. Bush and his neo-conservative puppet master, Vice President Dick Cheney. Senior White House fanatics spoon fed reporters like me cherry-picked intelligence about Iraq’s alleged Weapons of Mass Destruction so that America could invade Iraq and seize its oil. None of this is true, but many Americans continue to believe it. People died. It was a war. But President Bush didn’t lie us into it. The false narrative that he did is, itself, a lie and deserves to be, at last, retired. There was no shortage of mistakes about Iraq, and some of the media’s prewar WMD stories were wrong, including some of mine. But so is the enduring, pernicious accusation that the Bush administration fabricated WMD intelligence to take the country to war. Before the 2003 invasion, President Bush and other senior officials cited the intelligence community’s incorrect conclusions about Saddam’s WMD capabilities and, on occasion, went beyond them. But relying on the mistakes of others -- completely understandable mistakes given Saddam’s horrendous record -- and making errors of judgment are not the same as lying. American, European and arms-control experts, counterterrorism agents, and analysts who studied Iraq and briefed White House officials and journalists were the same people who gave me and my fellow reporters at the New York Times accurate information for years about Osama bin Laden and al Qaeda’s growing threat to America. In fact, eight months before 9/11, the Times published a series of articles on that threat -- a series for which the Times staff, including me, won a Pulitzer Prize. The members of the intelligence community with whom I dealt were overwhelmingly reliable, hardworking and honest. But they were also human, and, in the aftermath of 9/11, they were very wary of ever again underestimating a terrorist threat. Please do not forget to visit the site http://scribol.com contact us at:[email protected] http://watchjojo.com ************************************************************** As a prisoner of war in Iraq, American servicewoman Jessica Lynch dreamed of the day when she would taste freedom again. And that was a feeling she clung to until the time she was rescued by American troops. However, once on the outside, she knew she had to reveal the real truth of her widely publicized liberation. Lynch came into the world in April 1983 and grew up in Palestine, West Virginia. From an early age, she had a thirst for travel. “I wanted to improve my life and not just be there in Palestine forever,” she would later recall. “I wanted to get out and do something.” So she decided that after completing school, she would join the United States Army in a bid to realize her dream of exploring the world. However, her career choice to join the disciplined ranks of the military seemed at odds with her personality, according to Lynch’s father, Gregory. He described her as a defiant youngster. “If someone told her she couldn’t do something, she’d do it just to show them,” he was reported as saying by Biography.com. Following her graduation from Wirt County High School in Elizabeth, WV, Lynch headed off to South Carolina to begin training for a role in the military. It was September 2001 – just days after the 9/11 attacks on the U.S. Despite her enrolling in training during such a volatile period, Lynch didn’t think that she would actually be drafted to fight. Instead, she envisioned that her role within the military would be as a store clerk; she hoped that the position would help her develop business skills. In fact, Lynch only ever imagined spending a short time in the army before returning to her studies and becoming a teacher. However, her dreams were put on hold in 2003 when the Iraq war broke out, and Lynch was sent to the war zone alongside the 507th Maintenance Company. Unfortunately, it only took a matter of weeks for disaster to strike. Lynch and her fellow soldiers were in the Iraqi city of Nasiriya as part of a convoy when a fault in their navigational equipment inadvertently led them into enemy-held territory. The ensuing hour-and-a-half-long firefight cost the lives of 11 U.S. troops. Lynch was also injured during the incident and captured by Iraqi forces. Suddenly, Lynch found herself at the mercy of Saddam Hussein’s troops. Indeed, she was now classified as a prisoner of war and held at a Nasiriya’s Saddam Hospital. Lynch had no idea how long her ordeal would last or what her fate might be. In the end, Lynch was held for eight days before she was liberated. The story of her supposed rescue was later beamed home to television audiences across the U.S. The story served as some much needed propaganda for the government, which was seeking to justify the Iraq war to a domestic audience. TV footage showed Lynch smiling and relieved after her rescuers had seemingly stormed the compound and saved her life. Tales of Lynch’s heroism were spread far and wide by the U.S. military and media outlets hungry for a story. These included a version of events in which a badly wounded Lynch had earlier fired upon Iraqi forces until she had eventually ran out of ammo and was captured. ************************************************************** ►web: http://watchjojo.com ► SUBSCRIBE US: https://goo.gl/Z4nZcg ► Follow Us On Google Plus: https://goo.gl/JYf9Rr ► Like us Our Facebook Page: https://goo.gl/C5Rv92 ► Follow On Twitter: https://goo.gl/PZ2U1R ►For more articles visit: http://scribol.com ►reference: https://goo.gl/scF316 #watchjojo

ISIS wants to redraw Middle Eastern borders and establish a single state governed by an extreme interpretation of Islamic law. For many, this group of insurgents affiliated with al Qaeda seemingly came out of nowhere over the past year. However, it's no coincidence that ISIS became violently active after the U.S. withdrew its forces from Iraq in late 2013.

It started after World War II and survived the Iranian Revolution, the Cold War, the Gulf War, September 11, and the proliferation of conflicts across the Middle East. This whole time, the US has been selling weapons to Saudi Arabia -- now its number one customer. Saudis bought bombs, tanks, guns, and planes over the years to defend themselves from various threats. The US supplied those weapons because the Saudi’s threats have usually been a threat to the US as well. Today, there's a shift in the relationship. In the latest installment of the Q & A show, Scott and Eric discuss the following: *What Scott's been doing with all the free time he used to spend on Twitter *What it was like to be antiwar in America in the run-up to Iraq War 2 *The motives of the Iraq War 2 cheerleaders *The quietly growing acceptance of Austrian Business Cycle Theory for explaining the boom and bust cycle *The absurdity of punishing people for earning a living, more commonly referred to as the income tax *And More! Here's the post where Scott lays out the best articles to read on how the Bush Administration lied America into Iraq War 2: https://medium.com/dan-sanchez-blog/16-articles-that-expose-how-they-lied-us-into-war-in-iraq-bedf2e47c0bc

The decision by the United States to begin bombing ISIS in Tikrit was a conditional one. Before US involvement in this particular battle, Shia militia groups were fighting alongside the Iraqi army. Together they made up a fighting force of around 23,000. However, the US required that Shia militia groups leave the fight, bringing the number of fighters against ISIS in Tikrit to just around 4,000. Atlantic Monthly editor James Fallows discusses his new book, based on his award-winning series of articles for the magazine. Fallows analyzes the decision-making behind the Iraq war, and argues that the administration didn't fail to plan it just ignored the plans of its own experts. Fallows also places the war within the larger context of the war on terror, arguing that the Iraqi venture has greatly undercut our global efforts to curtail terror attacks and the effectiveness of terrorist organizations. ➡ Subscribe: http://bit.ly/UCHICAGOytSubscribe About #UChicago: A destination for inquiry, research, and education, the University of Chicago empowers scholars to challenge conventional thinking. Subscribe to VICE News here: http://bit.ly/Subscribe-to-VICE-News 2013 was a bad year for the Syrian rebels. While the mainstream rebels struggled to defend their frontlines from the resurgent Assad regime, a renegade al Qaeda offshoot, the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), launched a series of assaults on the formerly-dominant FSA brigades from behind, capturing their strongholds in rebel-held northern Syria and executing their commanders. Now the rebels are fighting back. A coalition of former FSA brigades, funded by Saudi Arabia and rebranded as the Syrian Revolutionaries Front (or SRF), launched a surprise offensive against ISIS in the spring of 2014, in a campaign supported by both the Saudi and US governments. VICE News was the first western TV crew into Northern Syria for 6 months, embedding with the SRF as they reimposed their rule over the country's northwestern Idlib province. What we witnessed was a brief window into a complex and morally ambiguous conflict with no end in sight. PSYCH!!! here Christopher Hitchens debates Morton Kondracke on the first Gulf War. Hitchens is here in an older, anti-imperialist mode, a la Noam Chomsky, Edward Said, Howard Zinn etc... Interestingly, the sense of outrage/horror at the state of Iraq and at the Baath Party dictatorship is just as palpable as in the post 9-11 debates.... One doesn't get the sense that he's simply jumped ship in the latest fight. He's take the evidence in full and decided that it's better to partner with American power (and all it's baggage) against an aggressive genocidal fascist dictatorship, than to partner with left-wing anti-imperialist movements and leave said regime in place. Kondracke comes out on top in this debate IMO. Hitchens sounds especially outdated with his boilerplate anti-globalization/anti-capitalism rhetoric, more so than Kondracke does with his boilerplate Christian poltics. There is a weird break in the recording while Hitchens is talking at some point (I forget where), but I don't think that much is missing.

The Middle East Institute hosts a lecture and discussion with Mark N. Katz, examining the impact of the current and future US withdrawals from Iraq and Afghanistan on Islamic radicals. Katz argues that the US withdrawals from both countries will lead radicals to conclude they have defeated the US in the "War on Terror" and that US regional strength is on the decline. This, he argues, will spur Islamic radicals to seek further gains elsewhere. But regardless of the boost to their cause that the withdrawals from Iraq and Afghanistan may provide, they will likely meet three key obstacles in their pursuit of increased power and influence. First, other regional powers besides the US will intervene to prevent them from becoming overly influential. Second, Islamic radicals are unlikely to rule benevolently anywhere they come to power, thus creating internal opposition against them. And finally, the more powerful the Islamic radicals think they are, the more likely they are to turn on each other--just as other revolutionaries have. Bio: Mark N. Katz is a professor of government and politics at George Mason University, where he has taught since 1988. He was on sabbatical from GMU in the autumn of 2010. He spent this time as a visiting senior fellow at the Middle East Policy Council in Washington, where he wrote a series of articles on "'The 'War on Terror' in Perspective: History, Geopolitics, and American Foreign Policy."

American soldiers serving in the province of Kandahar were drawn into a firefight of biblical proportions. The enemy force was a single man armed only with a pike. The man was of an ancient race so large, that his measurements would soon be officially recorded for the first time since the writings of the old testament. Afghanistan, 2002. A patrol of U.S. Marines goes missing in a remote area of Kandahar. A second unit of the Special Forces is flown miles from the nearest village and deposited at the last reported rally point of the missing patrol. They follow its trail on land for only a few kilometers when they find themselves descending the side of a mountain. The Marines travel single-file following a narrow path, centuries-old, made by goats, which brings them to the mouth of a cave in the mountainside. The lieutenant in command was puzzled by the unusual amount of loose rock or rubble in front of the cave, when he saw the rocks were mixed... with fragments of bone. Staff sergeant DePaula was the man who found the field radio belonging to the unit which had vanished. It was crushed like an empty pack of cigarettes. They were looking at the site of an ambush. The LT immediately commanded his men to disperse and it was his quick thinking that saved most of the men from the thing that now burst out of the cave. It was so large, and moving so fast that for some odd reason, Sergeant DePaula thought it might be an elephant. It looked like a man but it was 12 to 15 feet tall, with a red beard and flaming red hair down to its shoulders. They were taken by surprise and nobody moved until Corporal Markowitz charged it, firing his M4. Their Special Forces training and muscle memory took over, and the rest of the men emptied their weapons into the giant's gut. The titan was bellowing and it took out Markowitz by thrusting a spear clean through the soldier's torso. Then DePaula called out, "Shoot him in the face!" The other troops took up the same call at the top of their lungs. The primitive looking hulk took multiple hits from M4's and 308's, none of which was slowing him down. He still had the first soldier on the end of his pike. Suddenly the giant stopped moving and blinked his eyes as if confused. Then he collapsed and the ground shook. The titan was finally dead. The entire engagement had taken less than a minute. After the Lieutenant radioed in their position, a CH 47 helicopter arrived. It could not land on the side of a mountain but it dropped a cargo net on a line, and the men were ordered to roll the giant onto the net, which required the strength of two squads to accomplish. It smelled... like a combination of a skunk and a rotten corpse. The huge body was flown to a local airstrip, where it was transferred to the loading bay of C-130 cargo plane for transport to a base in Europe. The Air Force pilot of this plane observed six toes on each foot of the beast and six fingers on each hand, which was first recorded of giant men more than two thousand years ago in First Chronicles, chapter 20, verse 6. Its fingernails were pointed, the pilot says, and its heels were wrapped with skin or canvas similar to a moccasin. Its odor was overpowering, as if it had avoided taking a bath for a decade. Also the pilot estimated its weight at 1100 pounds... over half a ton. Chain of command insisted the Special Forces unit re-write their after-action reports to eliminate any reference to the size of the creature. Today the military denies this confrontation ever took place. Even the death record of corporal Markowitz has been "covered up". But this event is said to explain why, when U.S. combatants are trained in cave fighting, instead of aiming for center mass they are instructed to aim high, in order to target the face of the enemy. Every day, US military forces in Iraq are attacking civilian populations in a calculated effort to drown a growing popular insurgency in blood. But one would hardly know the dimensions or brutality of the atrocities being carried out in the name of the American people from the sparse and sanitized coverage provided by the major press and broadcast outlets that purport to disseminate "the news." The US media—owned and controlled by a handful of huge corporate conglomerates—play an indispensable role in the mass murder of Iraqi men, women and children. Together with the Bush administration and the two major parties of US imperialism—the Democratic Party and its presidential candidate John Kerry, no less than their Republican rivals—the media are complicit in a crime against humanity of immense proportions, one that dwarfs any crimes committed by the various political leaders who have been targeted for destruction by the American ruling elite in recent years: from Panama's Noriega, to Serbia's Milosevic, to Saddam Hussein himself. One can stare at the 24-hour cable news networks from sunup to sundown and get no sense of the carnage in towns and cities from Baghdad, to Fallujah, to Ramadi, to Hilla in the south and Tal Afar in the north that is left in the wake of US rockets, bombs, tank shells and sniper rounds. The evening news reports of the major networks provide at most a fleeting image of the death and destruction, inevitably hedged with absurd avowals from the US military that "precision" attacks were carried out against "terrorist" and "anti-Iraqi" targets. As for the press, one day's front-page report of US helicopter attacks on unarmed civilians or air strikes against urban centers is eclipsed the next day by the latest hurricane threat or new poll numbers on the upcoming election—an election in which no discussion of the legitimacy of the US subjugation of Iraq or the real war aims behind the bogus ones used to promote the war is permitted. No country's media is more cowardly, or more artful in churning out the official line and excluding any serious criticism or analysis, than that of the USA. It would be absurd to hold up the British media as a model of conscientious and objective reporting, but even there, articles occasionally appear that provide some insight into the reality of the situation in Iraq. The Guardian newspaper, for example, on Tuesday carried an eyewitness account on its front page of the American helicopter attack on unarmed Iraqis that occurred Sunday in central Baghdad. Thirteen Iraqis were killed and dozens were wounded when US copters repeatedly fired rockets into a crowd that had gathered around a disabled American armored vehicle on Haifa Street, near the Green Zone that houses the US and British embassies and the offices of Washington's puppet government.

SYCH!!! here Christopher Hitchens debates Morton Kondracke on the first Gulf War. Please rate. thanks.

When the Soviet Union intervened in Afghan Civil War, they created a spiral of violence that is still going on till this day. On the one side the Soviet troops weren't able to gain control over the huge country. On the other side, the US, via the CIA, and the Arab countries supported guerrilla fighters with arms deliveries. These militias called themselves Mujahideen and thought that they are fighting a Holy War against the infidel communists. Even after the retreat of the Red Army, Afghanistan remained in chaos, the Taliban seized power and after 9/11 NATO forces invaded the country and made the same mistakes the Russians did before. » The Complete PLAYLIST: http://bit.ly/TheColdWar » Mentioned Videos: http://bit.ly/ColdWarEnds » JOIN OUR COMMUNITY FOR MORE HISTORY KNOWLEDGE! top 10 soldiers who are tougher than an actual army Subscribe to our channel: http://goo.gl/9CwQhg For copyright matters please contact us at: [email protected] Remember those awesome action films from the 1980s and 1990s? That was the golden era of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Chuck Norris and Steven Seagal. Naturally, no list of badass action heroes would be complete without Sylvester Stallone. He’s played a cop, a boxer and John Rambo. Rambo was one of the biggest actions stars of the big screen because he was simply an unstoppable one-man army. He took on cops and foreign armies and beat them all. Injured numerous times, how many of us can say we were able to cauterize our own bullet wound? How many of us took down an attack chopper or mowed down dozens of enemy soldiers on our own? Yup, that’s what we thought. Hold on, however. It turns out that John Rambo isn’t the biggest badass in the world. In fact, there are quite a few real-life warriors who are at least equal to, if not more dangerous, than Rambo. These soldiers took on overwhelming odds by battling dozens or hundreds of enemy soldiers, climbing up on burning tanks, single-handedly taking out enemy bunkers and surviving numerous injuries and wounds. Whether climbing mountain sides, storming a beach, flying a fighter plane or making a stand against an enemy attack, these following individuals are perfect examples of real life Rambos who actually existed off of the movie screen.
