Did Bush Lie About Iraq?

05:56
Did George W. Bush lie to America about Saddam Hussein having weapons of mass destruction? Judith Miller, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, covered the lead up to the Iraq War for The New York Times, and settles once and for all the big lie about the war in Iraq.  Donate today to PragerU! http://l.prageru.com/2ylo1Yt Joining PragerU is free! I had some help from a clueless President George W. Bush and his neo-conservative puppet master, Vice President Dick Cheney. Senior White House fanatics spoon fed reporters like me cherry-picked intelligence about Iraq’s alleged Weapons of Mass Destruction so that America could invade Iraq and seize its oil. None of this is true, but many Americans continue to believe it. People died. It was a war. But President Bush didn’t lie us into it. The false narrative that he did is, itself, a lie and deserves to be, at last, retired. There was no shortage of mistakes about Iraq, and some of the media’s prewar WMD stories were wrong, including some of mine. But so is the enduring, pernicious accusation that the Bush administration fabricated WMD intelligence to take the country to war. Before the 2003 invasion, President Bush and other senior officials cited the intelligence community’s incorrect conclusions about Saddam’s WMD capabilities and, on occasion, went beyond them. But relying on the mistakes of others -- completely understandable mistakes given Saddam’s horrendous record -- and making errors of judgment are not the same as lying. American, European and arms-control experts, counterterrorism agents, and analysts who studied Iraq and briefed White House officials and journalists were the same people who gave me and my fellow reporters at the New York Times accurate information for years about Osama bin Laden and al Qaeda’s growing threat to America. In fact, eight months before 9/11, the Times published a series of articles on that threat -- a series for which the Times staff, including me, won a Pulitzer Prize. The members of the intelligence community with whom I dealt were overwhelmingly reliable, hardworking and honest. But they were also human, and, in the aftermath of 9/11, they were very wary of ever again underestimating a terrorist threat. The rise of ISIS, explained in 6 minutes

06:19
Its history goes back way before the group ever existed. Subscribe to our channel! http://goo.gl/0bsAjO In the few short years since the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria formed, it has done the seemingly impossible, seizing vast areas of the Middle East to form a mini-state it calls a reincarnation of the ancient Caliphate. It is at war with all its neighbors and virtually the entire world, yet someone remains, and is launching increasingly deadly terror attacks abroad. To understand how this terrible group came about and how it has grown so powerful, you need to understand the story behind its rise. And that is a story that goes back decades, to long before ISIS existed. What if Iran Won the Iran-Iraq War? (Part 1 of 2)

07:16
The Iran-Iraq War was one of the most devastating conflicts of the 20th century, costing hundreds of thousands of lives on both sides. In the end, it resulted in just a stalemate. So what if in this case, Iran won the war? Join the Discussion: War in Iraq

The decision by the United States to begin bombing ISIS in Tikrit was a conditional one. Before US involvement in this particular battle, Shia militia groups were fighting alongside the Iraqi army. Together they made up a fighting force of around 23,000. However, the US required that Shia militia groups leave the fight, bringing the number of fighters against ISIS in Tikrit to just around 4,000. Years After This POW Was Rescued From Iraq, She Revealed The Astonishing Truth About Her Ordeal

06:15
Please do not forget to visit the site http://scribol.com contact us at:[email protected] http://watchjojo.com ************************************************************** As a prisoner of war in Iraq, American servicewoman Jessica Lynch dreamed of the day when she would taste freedom again. And that was a feeling she clung to until the time she was rescued by American troops. However, once on the outside, she knew she had to reveal the real truth of her widely publicized liberation. Lynch came into the world in April 1983 and grew up in Palestine, West Virginia. From an early age, she had a thirst for travel. “I wanted to improve my life and not just be there in Palestine forever,” she would later recall. “I wanted to get out and do something.” So she decided that after completing school, she would join the United States Army in a bid to realize her dream of exploring the world. However, her career choice to join the disciplined ranks of the military seemed at odds with her personality, according to Lynch’s father, Gregory. He described her as a defiant youngster. “If someone told her she couldn’t do something, she’d do it just to show them,” he was reported as saying by Biography.com. Following her graduation from Wirt County High School in Elizabeth, WV, Lynch headed off to South Carolina to begin training for a role in the military. It was September 2001 – just days after the 9/11 attacks on the U.S. Despite her enrolling in training during such a volatile period, Lynch didn’t think that she would actually be drafted to fight. Instead, she envisioned that her role within the military would be as a store clerk; she hoped that the position would help her develop business skills. In fact, Lynch only ever imagined spending a short time in the army before returning to her studies and becoming a teacher. However, her dreams were put on hold in 2003 when the Iraq war broke out, and Lynch was sent to the war zone alongside the 507th Maintenance Company. Unfortunately, it only took a matter of weeks for disaster to strike. Lynch and her fellow soldiers were in the Iraqi city of Nasiriya as part of a convoy when a fault in their navigational equipment inadvertently led them into enemy-held territory. The ensuing hour-and-a-half-long firefight cost the lives of 11 U.S. troops. Lynch was also injured during the incident and captured by Iraqi forces. Suddenly, Lynch found herself at the mercy of Saddam Hussein’s troops. Indeed, she was now classified as a prisoner of war and held at a Nasiriya’s Saddam Hospital. Lynch had no idea how long her ordeal would last or what her fate might be. In the end, Lynch was held for eight days before she was liberated. The story of her supposed rescue was later beamed home to television audiences across the U.S. The story served as some much needed propaganda for the government, which was seeking to justify the Iraq war to a domestic audience. TV footage showed Lynch smiling and relieved after her rescuers had seemingly stormed the compound and saved her life. Tales of Lynch’s heroism were spread far and wide by the U.S. military and media outlets hungry for a story. These included a version of events in which a badly wounded Lynch had earlier fired upon Iraqi forces until she had eventually ran out of ammo and was captured. ************************************************************** ►web: http://watchjojo.com ► SUBSCRIBE US: https://goo.gl/Z4nZcg ► Follow Us On Google Plus: https://goo.gl/JYf9Rr ► Like us Our Facebook Page: https://goo.gl/C5Rv92 ► Follow On Twitter: https://goo.gl/PZ2U1R ►For more articles visit: http://scribol.com ►reference: https://goo.gl/scF316 #watchjojo

Ben Shapiro is a Neoconservative

Another rant. Now, I do have some errors in there, but I don't know how to edit in audacity (yet). This is unscripted by the way. I made a mistake of saying neocons support low taxation. I should've said they support that stuff in public, but because they want more wars, in practice, they do NOT support low taxation. Not all of these articles will be related to Ben being a neocon. Some of them are meant to illustrate that he's acted like a social justice warrior before and never apologized for it unless it was years later. When Is War Justified? Christopher Hitchens on American Power and the War in Iraq (2003)

01:05:17
A Long Short War: The Postponed Liberation of Iraq is a collection of twenty two articles written by Christopher Hitchens for the online magazine Slate. His books: https://www.amazon.com/gp/search?ie=UTF8&tag=tra0c7-20&linkCode=ur2&linkId=b4216f8d575f9efdb4148e970de71890&camp=1789&creative=9325&index=books&keywords=hitchens The articles support the impending American led invasion of Iraq and were written between November 7, 2002 and April 18, 2003. In the preface, Hitchens is typically unapologetic about his pro-invasion stance (a stance which solidified the author's break with the anti-war leadership of modern American left), stating: "I began from the viewpoint of one who took the side of the Iraqi and Kurdish opposition to Saddam Hussein, who hoped for their victory, and who had come to believe that the chiefest and gravest mistake of Western and especially American statecraft had been to reconfirm Saddam Hussein in power in 1991" (Hitchens, v). Among the many individuals credited in the introduction are Barham Salih (a member of the Iraqi National Assembly and former prime minister of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan), Kanan Makiya (author of a number of books, including 1989's best-selling Republic of Fear) and Ahmad Chalabi (former deputy Prime Minister of Iraq). The essays are constructed in polemical, often vitriolic prose, and heap especial scorn on what Hitchens sees as the sickly masochism of the dovish Left, systematically addressing and dismissing the most popular of the antiwar arguments while tendering ordered expostulations of his own position. Turkey and France were heavily chastised, while a qualified defence of George W. Bush is mounted, in one essay against the charge that the US President merits the appellative "cowboy" and in another that he rushed his nation into war. "I used to call myself a single-issue voter on the essential question of defending civilization against its terrorist enemies and their totalitarian protectors," wrote Hitchens in 2008, "and on that 'issue' I hope I can continue to expose and oppose any ambiguity." Hitchens is seen by many as a "liberal hawk" comprising left-leaning commentators who supported the 2003 Invasion of Iraq. This informal grouping includes the British writers Nick Cohen, Johann Hari, David Aaronovitch, Norman Geras, Julie Burchill, and the Canadian Michael Ignatieff (see Euston Manifesto). Neoconservatives of the last decade are hesitant to embrace Hitchens as one of their own, in part because of his harsh criticisms of Ronald Reagan and his refusal to associate himself as such. Despite his many articles supporting the US invasion of Iraq, Hitchens made a brief return to The Nation just before the 2004 US presidential election and wrote that he was "slightly" for George W. Bush; shortly afterwards, Slate polled its staff on their positions on the candidates and mistakenly printed Hitchens' vote as pro-Kerry. Hitchens shifted his opinion to "neutral", saying: "It's absurd for liberals to talk as if Kristallnacht is impending with Bush, and it's unwise and indecent for Republicans to equate Kerry with capitulation. There's no one to whom he can surrender, is there? I think that the nature of the jihadist enemy will decide things in the end". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Long_Short_War:_The_Postponed_Liberation_of_Iraq

Blind Into Baghdad: America's War in Iraq

26:14
September 26, 2006 Atlantic Monthly editor James Fallows discusses his new book, based on his award-winning series of articles for the magazine. Fallows analyzes the decision-making behind the Iraq war, and argues that the administration didn't fail to plan — it just ignored the plans of its own experts. Fallows also places the war within the larger context of the war on terror, arguing that the Iraqi venture has greatly undercut our global efforts to curtail terror attacks and the effectiveness of terrorist organizations. The myth that George Bush lied about Iraq

03:47
The Dangerous Lie That ‘Bush Lied’ http://www.wsj.com/articles/laurence-h-silberman-the-dangerous-lie-that-bush-lied-1423437950 Bush Didn't Lie About Iraq Having WMDs. Bush's political opponents like to make this claim to delegitimize not just the war but his entire presidency. No man who knowingly and dishonestly took a nation to war is worthy of any kind of honor, hence history's reluctance to focus on the substantive accomplishments of President Lyndon Johnson. Whatever good he did is eclipsed by his use of a fabricated incident in the Gulf of Tonkin to secure congressional authority to increase the number of combat troops being sent to South Vietnam. The notion that Bush lied in similar fashion about Iraq discredits – in the eyes of his political opponents certainly – everything he did, everything he stood for and everything he accomplished. It's a brutal axe but, according to Woodward, one that is itself based on an untruth. An argument could certainly and persuasively be made, he told moderator Chris Wallace on "Fox News Sunday," that the Iraq War was a mistake, but "there was no lying in this that I could find."

Amy Goodman: ... many say that, although president Bush led this invasion, that president Clinton laid the groundwork with the sanctions and with the previous bombing of Iraq. You were president Clinton's U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations.... the U.N. sanctions, for example ... led to the deaths of more than a half a million children, not to mention more than a million Iraqis. 2. Governor Richardson: Well, I stand behind the sanctions. I believe that they successfully contained Saddam Hussein. I believe that the sanctions were an instrument of our policy. [Emphasis Added] 3. Amy Goodman: To ask a question that was asked of U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Madeleine Albright, do you think the price was worth it, 500,000 children dead? 4. Governor Richardson: Well, I believe our policy was correct, yes — Governor Richardson Calls for an Exit Strategy in Iraq and Stands by the Clinton-Era Sanctions, Democracy Now, September 22, 2005 Changing role of sanctions? When Iraq invaded Kuwait, economic sanctions were applied, until March 1991, to pressure them to leave. After that, the sanctions took on a new purpose: to get Iraq to comply with the cease fire terms embodied in the UN Resolution 687, which included the elimination of its weapons of mass destruction and recognizing the sovereignty of Kuwait. However, at various stages throughout the sanctions, it was often said by U.S. officials that the sanctions would not be lifted until the Saddam Hussein regime had gone. For years, people from grassroots activists to top United Nations officials had strongly opposed the sanctions because of their effects on ordinary Iraqi citizens, but to no avail. On May 22, 2003, the United Nations (U.N) Security Council voted to lift the sanctions, Saddam's regime having been toppled. The vote was 14 to 1 (Syria refusing to vote). But the passing of this resolution was also controversial: * In the past, the U.S. and U.K., primarily, had been most vocal in maintaining sanctions, though now, they were the main drivers to lift them, showing the political power the two nations have in the international arena. * While the political issues in this resolution were hardly presented in the British media, for example, some 150 peace organizations and Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) from around the world protested the resolution for virtually legitimizing the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq and endorsing the foreign occupation of a U.N. member state. * As the previous link details, the resolution was passed by what the 150 groups described as bribes and threats by the U.S. on other members of the Council. * It also provides political legitimacy to U.S. rule (for now) in Iraq. * One additional effect is that it "did not specify the role of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in declaring Iraq free of weapons of mass destruction; it did not end the U.N. arms embargo against the country and it did not clarify the U.N.'s role in a future Iraq." While the sanctions appear to be lifted then, the future of Iraq is still under a lot of questions. But the history of the sanctions regime and its toll on the Iraqi people have been very devastating which is what the rest of this page looks at. Since the 1991 Gulf War, a combination of the effects of war, sanctions, deteriorating health care provisions, contaminated water, military actions, etc. have contributed to a humanitarian disaster in Iraq, further exacerbated by military strikes, such as those in 1998. Even the Secretary General of the UN, Koffi Annan had politely expressed his disappointment. (CLICK LINK FOR LIST) The sanctions had also been pointed out as being illegal. The previous link is to a paper presented to the International Law Association, in February 2000. It concluded that "The blockade/sanctions regime is by its nature inherently illegal under the Geneva Protocol, for three reasons. First, it targets civilians in breach of Articles 48 and 51(2). Secondly, it constitutes indiscriminate attack, in breach of Article 51(3). Thirdly and most flagrantly, it employs starvation as a method of warfare, in breach of Article 54." However, the sanctions regime ...(lifted) only when the Saddam Hussein regime was eventually toppled.

Constitutional War Powers: Executive Authority in the War on Terror [POLICYbrief]

Congress has only declared war during five conflicts, but the United States has used military force more than 100 times. Was this executive overreach, or does the president have the power to deploy military force without congressional approval? Retrieved January 5, 2016, from http://www.meforum.org/441/why-arabs-lose-wars In the modern era of warfare, Arabic-speaking countries have been generally ineffective. Egyptian special forces fared poorly against Yemeni tribes and irregular forces. The Iraqi army has collapsed several times; The Iran Iraq War, Operation Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and against the Islamic State. And the Arabs have done poorly in nearly all military confrontations with Israel. Many Middle Eastern states have not adapted to the modern battlefield.

Rep. Dennis Kucinich: Stealing Iraq's Oil "Is a War Crime!"

06:51
Rep. Dennis J. Kucinich (D-OH) charged: "To steal Iraq's oil resources is in itself a War Crime...It cries out for justice...The wealth of Iraq belongs to the people of Iraq." He spoke at a press conference on Capitol Hill, on Sept. 5, 2007. The popular Congressman comments were made in solidarity with the efforts of US Labor Against the War (USLAW); United for Peace & Justice (UFPJ); and the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC). These groups are supporting the Iraqi Oil Workers and their unions in opposing the scheme launched by the Bush-Cheney Gang to privatize most of Iraq's oil. Earlier in the day, a rally was held at the office of Bearing Point, near the Navy Yard. Bearing Point is the contractor, who the unions claim was "hired to do the job!" After speeches at that site, the demonstrators marched to the U.S. Capitol. Mrs. Hashmeya Muhsin Hussein, President of the Iraqi Electrical Unity Workers, also spoke at the Kucinich's press conference. It was held on the Cannon's Terrace. Kucinich praised, too, the "courage" of the Iraqi oil workers and their union leaders. For more background on this subject matter, please check out Ms. Antonia Juhasz's Op Ed piece in the NYT, on March 13, 2007, at: http://www.bushagenda.net/article.php?id=369; along with her statement at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O2HCR616ETI; also, the statement of Rep. "T.E. Lawrence, the Arab Revolt and WWI in the Middle East," Dr. John Calvert

01:11:32
Near the 100th anniversary of Britain’s surrender of Kut-al-Amara (present day Iraq), learn how World War I’s dark inheritance is especially apparent in a core territory made up of five countries – Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, Israel – and one seemingly permanent non-state, Palestine. Dr. John Calvert, Professor of Middle East History at Creighton University will explore the emergence of the modern Middle East including the roles played by T.E. Lawrence (“Lawrence of Arabia”), the Arab Revolt and the Allies’ wartime agreements. Recorded April 27, 2016 in J.C. Nichols Auditorium at the National World War I Museum and Memorial.
Jihad with US-Arms - The Soviet–Afghan War I THE COLD WAR

09:44
When the Soviet Union intervened in Afghan Civil War, they created a spiral of violence that is still going on till this day. On the one side the Soviet troops weren't able to gain control over the huge country. On the other side, the US, via the CIA, and the Arab countries supported guerrilla fighters with arms deliveries. These militias called themselves Mujahideen and thought that they are fighting a Holy War against the infidel communists. Even after the retreat of the Red Army, Afghanistan remained in chaos, the Taliban seized power and after 9/11 NATO forces invaded the country and made the same mistakes the Russians did before. » The Complete PLAYLIST: http://bit.ly/TheColdWar » Mentioned Videos: http://bit.ly/ColdWarEnds » JOIN OUR COMMUNITY FOR MORE HISTORY KNOWLEDGE! Was the Civil War About Slavery?

05:51
What caused the Civil War? Did the North care about abolishing slavery? Did the South secede because of slavery? Or was it about something else entirely...perhaps states' rights? Colonel Ty Seidule, Professor of History at the United States Military Academy at West Point, settles the debate. Donate today to PragerU! http://l.prageru.com/2ylo1Yt Joining PragerU is free! More than 150 years later this remains a controversial question. Why? Because many people don't want to believe that the citizens of the southern states were willing to fight and die to preserve a morally repugnant institution. There has to be another reason, we are told. Well, there isn't. The evidence is clear and overwhelming. Slavery was, by a wide margin, the single most important cause of the Civil War -- for both sides. Before the presidential election of 1860, a South Carolina newspaper warned that the issue before the country was, "the extinction of slavery," and called on all who were not prepared to, "surrender the institution," to act. Shortly after Abraham Lincoln's victory, they did. The secession documents of every Southern state made clear, crystal clear, that they were leaving the Union in order to protect their "peculiar institution" of slavery -- a phrase that at the time meant "the thing special to them." The vote to secede was 169 to 0 in South Carolina, 166 to 7 in Texas, 84 to 15 in Mississippi. In no Southern state was the vote close. Alexander Stephens of Georgia, the Confederacy's Vice President clearly articulated the views of the South in March 1861. "Our new government," he said, was founded on slavery. "Its foundations are laid, its cornerstone rests upon the great truth that the Negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery, submission to the superior race, is his natural and normal condition." Yet, despite the evidence, many continue to argue that other factors superseded slavery as the cause of the Civil War. Some argue that the South only wanted to protect states' rights. But this raises an obvious question: the states' rights to what? Wasn't it to maintain and spread slavery? Moreover, states' rights was not an exclusive Southern issue. All the states -- North and South -- sought to protect their rights -- sometimes they petitioned the federal government, sometimes they quarreled with each other. In fact, Mississippians complained that New York had too strong a concept of states' rights because it would not allow Delta planters to bring their slaves to Manhattan. The South was preoccupied with states' rights because it was preoccupied first and foremost with retaining slavery. Some argue that the cause of the war was economic. The North was industrial and the South agrarian, and so, the two lived in such economically different societies that they could no longer stay together. Not true. In the middle of the 19th century, both North and South were agrarian societies. In fact, the North produced far more food crops than did the South. But Northern farmers had to pay their farmhands who were free to come and go as they pleased, while Southern plantation owners exploited slaves over whom they had total control. And it wasn't just plantation owners who supported slavery. The slave society was embraced by all classes in the South. The rich had multiple motivations for wanting to maintain slavery, but so did the poor, non-slave holding whites. The "peculiar institution" ensured that they did not fall to the bottom rung of the social ladder. That's why another argument -- that the Civil War couldn't have been about slavery because so few people owned slaves -- has little merit. Former Israeli officials in the U.S. government pushed war against Iraq – Dahlia Wasfi

09:58
This interview discusses the neoconservatives in the Bush administration who beat the drums for the U.S. invasion and occupation of Iraq. The video was originally posted on Youtube by the interviewee, peace activist Dr. Dahlia Wasfi. Snowshoefilms conducted the interview and videography. The introduction was read by Joshua Casteel, a young peace activist who passed away in 2012. http://joshuacasteel.com/ Wasfi was a speaker at the Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW) 'Winter Soldier' eyewitness testimony, March 2008, in Maryland. Wasfi is the daughter of a Jewish mother and an Iraqi father. As a child in New York City, and for five years in Basrah, Iraq, U.S.-born Dahlia Wasfi looks at the world from a unique perspective. Her Mother and father met at medical school in Washington D.C. Wasfi's father was from Basrah. After getting his medical degree, the young Wasfi family returned to Basrah for five years, meeting the terms of her father's scholarship, before finally returning to the U.S. to live. In part-one of her Winter Soldier testimony, Dahlia Wasfi tells of her encounter with the example of Rachel Corrie (crushed to death by an Israeli bulldozer in 2001) that brought her out of despondency over the violence against Iraq that had begun many years before and that had continued under both Republic and Democratic presidencies; Rachel's example inspired Dahlia to become politically active. Iraq War Ends: American Troops Come Home - President Obama Announces w/ ABC News 2011

03:47
President Obama promises to withdraw U.S. forces by end of the year. In a final tactical road march, the last U.S. troops in Iraq crossed the border into Kuwait on Sunday morning, ending almost nine years of a deadly and divisive war. About 500 Fort Hood, Texas-based soldiers and 110 military vehicles made the journey south from Camp Adder, near Nasiriya, to the Khabari border crossing, from where they will head to Camp Virginia in Kuwait before flying home. They were the last soldiers in what amounted to the largest U.S. troop drawdown since the war in Vietnam.
