Inappropriate Kids Books That Actually Exist

Top 10 Children's books that actually exist! These books serve as a way to not only entertain and put children to sleep, but to capture the interest of the child and encourage them to learn how to read. That means that the plot of these children’s books need to be riveting, entertaining, and educational. Books can be complex in terms of the content being age appropriate where the kid can read the book on their own or having the parent read to their child. Sometimes this means that there may be content that could be misconstrued as adult humor as oppose to something else completely innocent. Kids’ books are meant to not only teach kids how to read, but also help them learn how to deal with situations that will help them grow into well-rounded adults. But sometimes authors will take liberties and purposely be inappropriate, while making jobs that go over the kids’ heads while making their parents laugh, or be royally angry. T hanks to the Internet, these inappropriate kids books have found a new exposure to the public and are now being purchased by families all over the world. From sexually transmitted diseases, innuendos, slang terms for curse words that are outdated, and more, these kids books should have never made it onto the shelves of our local libraries. It would be interesting to examine whether these books had an impact on the child psyche and if maybe these books contributed to early mental illness due to trauma. Jammer Talks About: Farenheit 451 and Banned Books

21:57
First of all, if you’re down here to figure out the name of the “Old Man” character, it’s Faber. He’s a former English professor and his name is actually based upon a pencil manufacture Faber-Castell. Also I made an error about Mein Kampf, the proceeds actually go to Houghlin Mifflin who published the edition I show in the video, though their "ownership" is no longer in existence. While they had it, their profits to charities that promote tolerance and cross-cultural understandings between people, one of which is the Gerda and Kurt Klein foundation which supports Holocaust awareness. If you're interested here's a link which would provide a little more clarity: http://mentalfloss.com/article/58783/who-gets-royalties-mein-kampf This is also a pretty good resource: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ie4QQJk1_pU In this video I try to explore the idea that the novel Fahrenheit 451 is a book that explores the problems of censorship, but on a deeper level it explores the problems of ignorance. While on the surface the novel is a science fiction story about the future where firemen burn books rather than put out fires, at the base of the new society is a comfort in ignorance. The firemen and the people who enjoy watching their television screens aren’t truly happy in any significant way, and the protagonist Montag sees this and is desperate to find something new that could change his life. He looks to books to solve the problems in his life, and the character Faber explains to him that, while books can educate, what’s required to really learn from books is time for reflection. Looking at these ideas is an opportunity to explore the real problems of Banning Books. Like I say in the video, I love, L-O-V-E Banned Book Week because it’s a chance to demonstrate and learn about how and why people ban books, and as I’ve learned more and more I’ve come to realize that what people object to most about these books is not their content per say, it’s the questions they inspire. Laughing at Captain Underpants allows children the chance to reflect on the question “why are adults supposed to be respected without question when some of them are rather silly?” Reading Ulysses allows the chance to ask the question, “How could anybody say this was pornographic when I can hardly even read it?” Reading Mein Kampf allows the chance to ask, “Everybody in society is always talking about what Hitler did, but then I never really learn about what Hitler actually did?” Reading HOWL allows the reader to ask, “Who cares if Ginsberg writes about “cocks” and “balls” it just means that the dude’s gay, and what’s wrong with that?” Books are banned not because they have offensive content, but because they inspire questions. Looking back to Fahrenheit 451 this seems especially relevant, for often the book is taught as a lesson against censorship. While this is true on a superficial level, it misses the deeper attempt of the work which is teaching people not to hide their ignorance. If you never admit to ignorance, you’ll never be able to change it. This is the lesson that should be taught, but largely isn’t, because even Fahrenheit 451 has been banned. If that isn’t a lesson in irony I don’t know what is. The books used in this video are: Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury (Ballantine Books) The Adventures of Captain Underpants by Dav Pilkey (Scholastic) The Color Purple by Alice Walker (Harcourt) Mein Kampf by Adolf Hitler (Mariner Books) Ulysses by James Joyce (Random House) The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain (University of California Press) I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou (Random House) Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic by Alison Bechdel (Houghlin Mifflin) The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger (Little, Brown, & Company) To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee (Warner Books) HOWL by Allen Ginsberg (City Lights Books) PUSH by Sapphire (Vintage International) Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K. Rowling (Arthur A. Levine Books) Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov (Vintage International) I’ve included a link to the article I wrote Fahrenheit 451 for my site White Tower Musings, and I’ve also included a link to two articles about Captain Underpants which explores Banned Book Week. One of those actually has a link to me participating in this event: Fahrenheit 451: https://jsjammersmith.wordpress.com/2015/05/09/we-searched-for-a-clever-burn-title-but-none-could-be-found/ Captain Underpants: https://jsjammersmith.wordpress.com/2014/11/23/semper-ubi-sub-ubi-always-wear-underwear/ Captain Underpants: https://jsjammersmith.wordpress.com/2016/01/17/more-messes-in-underwear-pilkey-adhd-homosexuality-and-the-authors-shitty-childhood/ If you have any questions, or suggestions for books that you would like to see me discuss, please feel free to comment below. 10 STRANGE Reasons Kids Toys Were BANNED

11:00
The weirdest reasons children's' toys were banned in different countries. Subscribe: https://goo.gl/cv6b96 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It seems like adults had a little too much fun when they were creating these toys. From inappropriate cartoon characters to dangerous dolls and too popular gadgets, these toys had to be taken off the shelves. If you want to know more about the reasons why, make sure to watch 10 Strange Reasons Toys Were Banned. Fidgets spinners are simple but so addictive: they spin in our hand for a minute, and then we can’t keep ourselves from making it spin “just one more time.” And their popularity is also the reason why they were banned in so many high schools in America: they were too distracting for children! Every kid wished they could go to Hogwarts, but some children in need didn’t have the chance to have that dream. The Salvation Army banned Harry Potter movies, books, and toys. If they received any toys based on the wizard as a donation, they refused to distribute it to children because they didn’t want to promote black magic. We have to admit that dolls sometimes look scary, and you had a good reason to be scared of the Cabbage Patch Doll. Instead of eating fake food, the Snacktime kid was trying to eat children. When it started eating their hair, it was almost impossible to stop it as there was no on-off switch on the toy. This would make the perfect scary movie! Stay tuned if you want to hear more about toys that were banned as the Kinder Surprise, Snap Bracelets, “The Simpsons” toys, dive sticks, water balls, “Pokémon” toys, and Teletubbies. Don’t forget to subscribe for more stories like this and don’t be shy to tell us what you would do if you received these toys for your birthday! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Our Social Media: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheThingscom/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For more videos and articles visit: http://www.thethings.com/

10 Weirdest Movie Merchandise Items Ever Made https://youtu.be/3Ma9tDQhnjQ Top 10 children's toys from Disney movies that look really dirty. Subscribe to our channel: http://goo.gl/9CwQhg For copyright matters please contact us at: [email protected] Description: Disney has built one of the largest empires in entertainment. From movies to theme parks to television shows, Disney has created some of the most iconic characters that we love the most. Walt Disney’s vision for his company was to entertain families in a way that was inclusive for all. Little girls fantasize about becoming princesses and meeting their prince while little boys dream about being a superhero and saving the day from evil. With this massive empire, Disney has created another cash cow in the form of merchandise and various products. If you’re someone who loves Disney and has to own everything by that brand, you can get everything from Disney jewelry to toilet seats. While it makes plenty of money for the company to make thousands of different products, once in a while, some products slip under the radar and are put on the market even if they are wildly inappropriate. Of course, some products can be distorted thanks to our minds being in the gutter, but other products are obviously inappropriate and seem like an inside joke by manufacturers. But since Disney specializes in products for children, any form of mature content in a child’s toy or product is highly controversial and can cause massive recalls and even lawsuits. Here are ten of the most inappropriate Disney products that have made it onto the shelves. Some of these are so bad and hilarious that it wouldn’t be a huge shock if a few childhoods were ruined. One thing is for sure is that Disney had to do some major damage control for the company. Banned Books Week 2012 Jetmore Public Library

04:01
"Fanny Hill, Memoirs of a Woman of Pleasure" was first published in England in 1748 and first banned in 1749. It is often cited as the last truly banned book in America -- banned in the U.S.A. in 1821 for obscenity, then again in 1963. Although some feel that Banned Book Week is nothing but hype, when a library removes a book from its shelves because someone disapproves of the ideas or opinions in the book, that is censorship; when it is done by publicly funded schools and libraries-it is a violation of the First Amendment. Librarians and library users celebrate BBW as a testament to the strength of our freedom in the United States. We celebrate the freedom to read because we know we are very fortunate to live in a country that protects our freedom to choose what we want to read. Banned Books Week is sponsored by: American Booksellers Association American Booksellers Foundation for Free Expression American Library Association American Society of Journalists and Authors Association of American Publishers Freedom to Read Foundation National Association of College Stores Comic Book Legal Defense Fund National Coalition Against Censorship National Council of Teachers of English PEN American Center Project Censored Banned Books Week is endorsed by: Center for the Book at the Library of Congress.

Filthy Frank fans made us do this

09:19
Filthy Frank is a star. But is he an artist or an asshole? Subscribe to our channel! http://goo.gl/0bsAjO Whether you call him George Miller, Joji, Pink Guy, Filthy Frank (or Salamander Man, Safari Man, Chin-Chin, Santa's Brother, etc), one thing is clear — Filthy Frank has dominated the internet, from memes like the Harlem Shake to rants that have consistently earned millions of views. His fans even mobilized to direct our crowdsourced video to be about Frank's lore. That lore includes characters like Filthy Frank himself, fake Frank, Pink Guy, Chin-Chin, Prometheus, Red Dick, and many others. It's been chronicled in a book about "Francis of the Filth," recapped on Filthy Frank Wikias, and shown up in other YouTube videos. The lore of Filthy Frank proves to be a complicated topic. More than listing off mythology about "chromosomes" and "realms" of the "omniverse," it's a starting off point for a debate about whether Filthy Frank, and by extension George Miller, is an artist or just an offensive shock-comedian. The answer says a lot for the future of shock comedy on YouTube. Vox.com is a news website that helps you cut through the noise and understand what's really driving the events in the headlines. Top 10 Books That Predicted the Future With Eerie Accuracy

When authors write about the future, they have to predict what technology and life might be like decades down the road. While the books are often written as a metaphor for their contemporary society, some authors have made amazingly accurate predictions about what modern life has actually become. →Subscribe for new videos every day! https://www.youtube.com/user/toptenznet?sub_confirmation=1 Help us translate our videos: https://www.youtube.com/timedtext_cs_queue?msg=10&tab=0 - Learn more why you might want to help: https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/6052538 Find more lists at: http://www.toptenz.net Entertaining and educational top 10 lists from TopTenzNet! Banned Books Week 2013 Read Out: Howl

03:35
Written by Allen Ginsberg in 1955, published in 1957, Howl is the poem most associated with the Beat movement of the 1950s. While Ginsberg suffered more than his share of slings and arrows during his lifetime, it was a book store owner who was arrested for selling a copy of "Howl and Other Poems" to an undercover policeman. Conspiracy of Silence (Banned History Channel Documentary)

59:53
"Conspiracy of Silence" is a powerful, disturbing documentary revealing a nationwide child abuse and pedophilia ring that leads to the highest levels of government. Featuring intrepid investigator John DeCamp, a highly decorated Vietnam war veteran and 16-year Nebraska state senator, "Conspiracy of Silence" reveals how rogue elements at all levels of government have been involved in systematic child abuse and pedophilia to feed the base desires of key politicians. Based on DeCamp's riveting book, The Franklin Cover-up, "Conspiracy of Silence" begins with the shut-down of Nebraska's Franklin Community Federal Credit Union after a raid by federal agencies in November 1988 revealed that $40 million was missing. When the Nebraska legislature launched a probe into the affair, what initially looked like a financial swindle soon exploded into a startling tale of drugs, money laundering, and a nationwide child abuse ring. Nineteen months later, the legislative committee's chief investigator died suddenly and violently, like more than a dozen other people linked to the Franklin case. So why have you never heard of the Franklin cover-up? Originally scheduled to air in May of 1994 on the Discovery Channel, "Conspiracy of Silence" was yanked at the last minute due to formidable pressure applied by top politicians. Some very powerful people did not want you to watch this documentary. You may find yourself becoming angry or upset while watching "Conspiracy of Silence." Many people do. However, consider that each of us has at times in our life acted out of selfish motives when it comes to sexuality and ended up hurting others in one way or another. Let us take this information not only as a call to stop this kind of abuse at the nationwide level, but also as a call to examine our own sexual relationships and make a commitment to deep honesty and integrity in our own lives around this most sensitive issue. Thanks for caring and may we all work together to build a brighter future for ourselves and for our world. A copy of this videotape was furnished anonymously to former Nebraska state senator and attorney John De Camp who made it available to retired FBI Agent Ted L. Gunderson. While the video quality is not top grade, this tape is a blockbuster in what is revealed by the participants involved. NOTE; This film had to be reassembled from remaining VHS fragments after an all-out effort was made to block the films release and destroy all extant copies. Every effort has been made to restore it to the original and complete "meant to be broadcast" version. Banned Books Week Virtual Readout: An Excerpt from 1984 by George Orwell

03:00
A reading from 1984 by George Orwell Everything faded into mist. The past was erased, the erasure was forgotten, the lie became truth. Just once in his life had possessed--after the event: that was what counted--concrete, unmistakable evidence of an act of falsification. He had held it between his fingers for as long as thirty seconds. In 1973, it must have been--at any rate, it was at about the time when he and Katharine had parted. But the really relevant date was seven or eight years earlier. The story really began in the middle Sixties, the period of the great purges in which the original leaders of the Revolution were wiped out once and for all. By 1970 none of them was left, except Big Brother himself. All the rest had by that time been exposed as traitors and counterrevolutionaries. Goldstein had fled and was hiding, no one knew where, and of the others, a few had simply disappeared, while the majority had been executed after spectacular public trials at which they made confession of their crimes. Among the last survivors were three men named Jones, Aaronson, and Rutherford. It must have been in 1965 that these three had been arrested. As often happened they had vanished for a year or more, so that one did not know whether they were alive or dead, and then had suddenly been brought forth to incriminate themselves in the usual way. They had confessed to intelligence with the enemy (at the date, too, the enemy was Eurasia), embezzlement of public funds, the murder of various trusted Party members, intrigues against the leadership of Big Brother which had started long before the Revolution happened, and acts of sabotage causing the death of hundreds of thousands of people. After confessing to these things they had been pardoned, reinstated in the Party, and given posts which were in fact sinecures but which sounded important. All three had written long, abject articles in the Times, analyzing the reasons for their defection and promising to make amends. 1984 is a fantastic book because of the way it subtly satirizes Communist ideals and does so in an interesting parallel narrative. However, this satire may have been too subtle for people who don’t read between the lines. This book was a great impact on my life back in middle school when I read it because it made me feel more mature to read about these political topics, even if I couldn’t completely understand them. I loved reading about the Newspeak language, the thought police, and the fact that Big Brother is always watching. Having gone back through it a few times since, I can say it definitely holds up as one of the best dystopian novels of the past century.

Taking a Stand Against Censorship

02:29
Censorship is the process of suppressing thoughts or ideas through entertainment, from movies, comics, books, video games, or literally shutting someone up. A perfect image of this was the Ministry of Truth, AKA Minitrue, from George Orwell's "1984". Here are some more examples of censorship. Banned in Arizona: Dark Gifts, Taboos, Secrets and Transformations in Chicana Literature

54:20
On January 28, 2014, the UNM Latin American and Iberian Institute (LAII) hosted Dr. Tey Diana Rebolledo, Distinguished Professor Emerita with the Department of Spanish & Portuguese and faculty affiliate with the LAII, at UNM, as part of its Spring 2014 LAII Lecture Series. Rebolledo is the author/editor of many books, book chapters, and articles, including The Chronicles of Panchita Villa and Other Guerrilleras: Essays on Chicana/Latina Literature and Criticism, (University of Texas Press, 2005), Women's Tales from the New Mexico WPA: La diabla a pie (Arte Público Press, 2000), and Women Singing in the Snow: An Analysis of Chicana Literature (University of Arizona Press, 1995). She has been named a Distinguished Professor, a UNM Regents' Professor, and a New Mexico Eminent Scholar. She has been the recipient of an NEH Fellowship, a Bogliasco Institute Fellowship, a Rockefeller Fellowship and a Danforth Fellowship. Her current research focuses on Chicana/o literature and contemporary Southwest Hispano/a literature and culture. This lecture will discuss the issues of banned books, beginning with the banning of Chicano Studies books in Tucson, Arizona, several years ago. Among the books banned was Rebolledo's anthology, Infinite Divisions: An Anthology of Chicana Literature (co-edited by Eliana Rivero) (University of Arizona Press, 1995). Why ban Chicano books? What do these writers discuss that is so dangerous? For reference, see the LAII website: http://laii.unm.edu/news/2014-01-21_LAII-Lecture-Considers-Banned-Chicana-Literature.php

About National Library Board's (NLB) removal and pulping of three children's titles with homosexual themes: http://news.asiaone.com/news/singapore/writer-speaks-out-against-nlb-book-ban NLB’s banned children’s books reflect a facet of reality: http://m.todayonline.com/voices/nlbs-banned-childrens-books-reflect-facet-reality News of the removal last week drew sharp criticism from some quarters; upset that a public institution devoted to promoting learning and knowledge would censor and pulp books in such a seemingly arbitrary fashion. http://www.straitstimes.com/news/singapore/more-singapore-stories/story/nlb-saga-two-removed-childrens-books-will-go-adult-secti#sthash.Kgb71tRB.dpuf Location: Hong Lim Park, Zaany Tech-Homeground Studios Cast: Bong DT (Hong Kong), Angela Bae Bee (Korea), Dick Innuerho (French-Indian), Mrs Popacherry (Singapore) Quick Background The rapid advent of the Internet has shaken the traditional role of the book, giving rise to an “information super-highway” (Benjamin & Wigard, 1995). With the ability to transmit regularly updated information at the speed of broadband, giving free access to vast indexed resources, and its dynamism of allowing quick and easy editing, the Internet has taken over the main functions of books and doing them faster and better than before. This modest paper examines the obsolescence of books in educating citizens about Singapore’s established notions regarding the constitution of a ‘family’, and seeks to propose for all libraries to be shut down in Singapore. The Proposal A hardcopy book only looks like a clunky, clumsy tool for dissemination when compared to the sleek, swiftly-augmented Internet. While the National Library Board took two days to remove a homosexuality-themed book off all shelves, an electronic book can be destroyed within seconds. Shutting down all libraries would leave the government with solely the Internet to moderate, albeit the censorship of peer-to-peer communication which legal guidelines would be detailed in subsequent papers. Not only does this translates to capital assets being re-allocated to more pressing causes, the Internet is also automatically catalogued, allowing for easier detection and removal of non-conforming articles by any trawling figure of authority. This portable, strictly-curated Fourth Estate would breed social amalgamation, increased etiquette and national peace (Akinfeleye, 2003). Evaluation The library ban truly accentuates our nation-state’s ideal of a civilised democracy. Any social rights champion can freely put up his or her macabre by simply finding an online connection, allowing freedom of expression. Content deemed inappropriate for society is subsequently truncated based on the current objectives dictated by the authority figures in both the parent-child and government-citizen contexts. This pragmatic pedagogy propels us towards that of a first-world nation. Conclusion Drawing allegorical parallels of libraries as mortal representations of scattered, non-uniform roads to knowledge, the library ban would allow for all citizens to be channelled to the “information highway”. Given the economies of scale reaped by the nature of a Titanic firewalled Internet, the library ban is poised to succeed with highly-decorated leaders wielding the wheel (Robinson, 1988).
