The conflict continued for much of the next decade as an insurgency emerged to oppose the occupying forces and the post-invasion Iraqi government. An estimated 151,000 to 600,000 or more Iraqis were killed in the first 3–4 years of conflict. The U.S. became re-involved in 2014 at the head of a new coalition; the insurgency and many dimensions of the civil armed conflict continue. The invasion occurred as part of a declared war against international terrorism and its sponsors under the administration of U.S. President George W. Bush following the September 11 terrorist attacks. The invasion began on 20 March 2003, with the U.S., joined by the United Kingdom and several coalition allies, launching a "shock and awe" bombing campaign. Iraqi forces were quickly overwhelmed as U.S. forces swept through the country. The invasion led to the collapse of the Ba'athist government; Saddam was captured during Operation Red Dawn in December of that same year and executed by a military court three years later. However, the power vacuum following Saddam's demise and the mismanagement of the occupation led to widespread sectarian violence between Shias and Sunnis, as well as a lengthy insurgency against U.S. and coalition forces. Many violent insurgent groups were supported by Iran and al-Qaeda in Iraq. The United States responded with a troop surge in 2007. The winding down of U.S. involvement in Iraq accelerated under President Barack Obama. The U.S. formally withdrew all combat troops from Iraq by December 2011.The Bush administration based its rationale for the war principally on the assertion that Iraq, which had been viewed by the U.S. as a rogue state since the 1990-1991 Gulf War, possessed weapons of mass destruction (WMDs) and that the Iraqi government posed an immediate threat to the United States and its coalition allies. Select U.S. officials accused Saddam of harbouring and supporting al-Qaeda, while others cited the desire to end a repressive dictatorship and bring democracy to the people of Iraq. After the invasion, no substantial evidence was found to verify the initial claims about WMDs, while claims of Iraqi officials collaborating with al-Qaeda were proven false. The rationale and misrepresentation of U.S. prewar intelligence faced heavy criticism both domestically and internationally, with President Bush declining from his record-high approval ratings following 9/11 to become one of the most unpopular presidents in U.S. history. From 2009-2011, the UK conducted a broad inquiry into its decision to go to war chaired by Sir John Chilcot. The Chilcot Report, published in 2016, concluded military action may have been necessary but was not the last resort at the time and that the consequences of invasion were underestimated. In the aftermath of the invasion, Iraq held multi-party elections in 2005. Nouri al-Maliki became Prime Minister in 2006 and remained in office until 2014. The al-Maliki government enacted policies that were widely seen as having the effect of alienating the country's Sunni minority and worsening sectarian tensions. In the summer of 2014, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) launched a military offensive in Northern Iraq and declared a worldwide Islamic caliphate, eliciting another military response from the United States and its allies. The Iraq War caused over a hundred thousand civilian deaths and tens of thousands of military deaths (see estimates below). The majority of deaths occurred as a result of the insurgency and civil conflicts between 2004 and 2007.

16 Years Later And The Bush Administration Is STILL Lying About Iraq

05:44
Ari Fleischer, the former press secretary for President George W. Bush, took some time on the 16th anniversary of the invasion of Iraq to remind us that the Bush administration DID NOT lie us into the war, but instead everyone just got their intelligence wrong. This is another lie. We’re 16 years into this quagmire and those responsible for it still can’t admit that they weren’t honest with the American public. Ring of Fire’s Farron Cousins discusses this. 🌞 Need someone to talk to? Yesterday, mark the 16th anniversary from the date that the United States decided to invade Iraq. Ari Fleischer, George W. Bush has a press secretary during the run up to the Iraq war, decided to take the time not to commemorate the 4,500 dead US soldiers or the 300,000 dead Iraqi civilians and combatants, but instead took to Twitter, wrote a multi tweet thread about how nobody in the Bush administration lied us into the Iraq war. He swore up and down that no money lied. Stop saying we lied. Nobody lied. It's just that all the intelligence was bad. But we were telling the truth based on this intelligence that later turned out to not be true. So there was no intentional or malicious lying taking place by anyone within the Bush administration. So says Ari Fleischer the guy who helps spread the lies that got us into the Iraq war. Now, plenty of people on Twitter, plenty of articles came out. Everybody already refuted what Ari Fleischer had to say, because just like when he was press secretary, his entire litter, little, uh, Twitter screed was a lie. None of it was true except for the fact that, yeah, the intelligence agencies got it wrong. But what he left out was that not only did they get it wrong in some areas, but they actually had it right in plenty of other areas. It's just that the Bush administration chose to ignore those parts. Like when the intelligence officials came and said, hey, we can't find any evidence anywhere of nuclear weapons. And then Dick Cheney goes on TV and says, Oh yeah, there's no question Saddam has nuclear weapons. Or when Condalisa Rice went on TV and said, well, they've got all these aluminum tubes, and they're using those to build missiles. The probably nuclear missiles. Yeah. The intelligence community before those claims were made, told them these things aren't happening. So guess what, Ari, that is a malicious and intentional lie. The list is, is endless of all the lies this administration told to get us into Iraq. They lie to us in there. They didn't know how to get out of there. Once they got in there, they didn't even have an actual goal with this war other than George W. Bush. And Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld trying to finish what Bush's daddy started in the early nineties beyond that, they didn't know what to do. They didn't know how to get out, and that's why we still have American troops over there interact 16 years later. But the worst part of it all is that nobody from that administration is willing to admit that they weren't honest. Hell, back in, I think it was what, 2006 we got the Downing Street memo, maybe it was even 2005 were British officials, said that the u s is fixing intelligence around a specified goal of Iraq invasion. #rof #trofire #theringoffire #progressivenews

Watch how the Syrian civil war became the mess it is today. After four-plus years of fighting, Syria's war has killed at least hundreds of thousands of people and displaced millions. And, though it started as a civil war, it's become much more than that. It's a proxy war that has divided much of the Middle East, and has drawn in both Russia and the United States. Japan vs. The Islamic State

13:56
The brutal beheadings of Japanese nationals Kenji Goto and Haruna Yukawa by the Islamic State in January have shocked the island nation and lent momentum to an effort to expand the limitations imposed on its constitution and military after its defeat by the United States in World War II. Leftists in Japan fear that the incident will encourage a departure from the country's pacifist constitution, whose Article 9 states that "the Japanese people forever renounce… the threat or use of force as a means of settling international disputes." Right-wingers, meanwhile, see an opportunity to allow Japan to assert itself as a truly sovereign state. VICE News reports from Japan as its prime minister and right wing are pushing for re-militarization of the pacifist nation, amid protests from the left who staunchly oppose any changes to Article 9 of the constitution. The Occupation Of Iraq: A Radical Experiment in Libertarian Ideology

Why Did Christopher Hitchens Support the Iraq War? On American Power (2003)

01:58:47
In the years after the fatwa issued against Salman Rushdie, Hitchens became increasingly critical of what he called "excuse making" on the left. More Hitchens: https://www.amazon.com/gp/search?ie=UTF8&tag=tra0c7-20&linkCode=ur2&linkId=aa771df1a7a94cdc515b433f4ac7a620&camp=1789&creative=9325&index=books&keywords=hitchens At the same time, he was attracted to the foreign policy ideas of some on the Republican-right that promoted pro-liberalism intervention, especially the neoconservative group that included Paul Wolfowitz. Around this time, he befriended the Iraqi dissident and businessman Ahmed Chalabi. In 2004, Hitchens stated that neoconservative support for US intervention in Iraq convinced him that he was "on the same side as the neo-conservatives" when it came to contemporary foreign policy issues. Hitchens had also been known to refer to his association with "temporary neocon allies". Following the 11 September attacks, Hitchens and Noam Chomsky debated the nature of radical Islam and the proper response to it. In October 2001, Hitchens wrote criticisms of Chomsky in The Nation. Chomsky responded and Hitchens issued a rebuttal to Chomsky to which Chomsky again responded. Approximately a year after the 11 September attacks and his exchanges with Chomsky, Hitchens left The Nation, claiming that its editors, readers and contributors considered John Ashcroft a bigger threat than Osama bin Laden, and that they were making excuses on behalf of Islamist terrorism; in the following months he wrote articles increasingly at odds with his colleagues. Christopher Hitchens argued the case for the Iraq War in a 2003 collection of essays entitled A Long Short War: The Postponed Liberation of Iraq, and he held numerous public debates on the topic with George Galloway[85] and Scott Ritter.[86] Prior to 11 September 2001, and the invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan, Hitchens was highly critical of President George W. Bush's "non-interventionist" foreign policy. He also criticised Bush's support of intelligent design[87] and capital punishment.[88] Although Hitchens defended Bush's post-11 September foreign policy, he criticised the actions of US troops in Abu Ghraib and Haditha, and the US government's use of waterboarding, which he unhesitatingly deemed as torture after he was invited by Vanity Fair to voluntarily undergo it.[89][90] In January 2006, Hitchens joined with four other individuals and four organisations, including the American Civil Liberties Union and Greenpeace, as plaintiffs in a lawsuit, ACLU v. NSA, challenging Bush's warrantless domestic spying program; the lawsuit was filed by the ACLU. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_hitchens

Christopher Hitchens: Heated Iraq War Debate (2005)

01:51:23
Christopher Eric Hitchens (13 April 1949 – 15 December 2011) was an Anglo-American author, columnist, essayist, orator, religious and literary critic, social critic, and journalist. More Hitchens: https://www.amazon.com/gp/search?ie=UTF8&tag=tra0c7-20&linkCode=ur2&linkId=0048b492fc1536ddd0db9718dadebcb3&camp=1789&creative=9325&index=books&keywords=hitchens A Long Short War: The Postponed Liberation of Iraq is a collection of twenty two articles written by Christopher Hitchens for the online magazine Slate. The articles support the impending American led invasion of Iraq and were written between November 7, 2002 and April 18, 2003. In the preface, Hitchens is typically unapologetic about his pro-invasion stance (a stance which solidified the author's break with the anti-war leadership of modern American left), stating: "I began from the viewpoint of one who took the side of the Iraqi and Kurdish opposition to Saddam Hussein, who hoped for their victory, and who had come to believe that the chiefest and gravest mistake of Western and especially American statecraft had been to reconfirm Saddam Hussein in power in 1991" (Hitchens, v). Among the many individuals credited in the introduction are Barham Salih (a member of the Iraqi National Assembly and former prime minister of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan), Kanan Makiya (author of a number of books, including 1989's best-selling Republic of Fear) and Ahmad Chalabi (former deputy Prime Minister of Iraq). The essays are constructed in polemical, often vitriolic prose, and heap especial scorn on what Hitchens sees as the sickly masochism of the dovish Left, systematically addressing and dismissing the most popular of the antiwar arguments while tendering ordered expostulations of his own position. Turkey and France were heavily chastised, while a qualified defence of George W. Bush is mounted, in one essay against the charge that the US President merits the appellative "cowboy" and in another that he rushed his nation into war. "I used to call myself a single-issue voter on the essential question of defending civilization against its terrorist enemies and their totalitarian protectors," wrote Hitchens in 2008, "and on that 'issue' I hope I can continue to expose and oppose any ambiguity."[1] Hitchens is seen by many as a "liberal hawk" comprising left-leaning commentators who supported the 2003 Invasion of Iraq.[2][3] This informal grouping includes the British writers Nick Cohen, Johann Hari, David Aaronovitch, Norman Geras, Julie Burchill, and the Canadian Michael Ignatieff (see Euston Manifesto).[citation needed] Neoconservatives of the last decade are hesitant to embrace Hitchens as one of their own, in part because of his harsh criticisms of Ronald Reagan[4][5] and his refusal to associate himself as such.[6] Despite his many articles supporting the US invasion of Iraq, Hitchens made a brief return to The Nation just before the 2004 US presidential election and wrote that he was "slightly" for George W. Bush; shortly afterwards, Slate polled its staff on their positions on the candidates and mistakenly printed Hitchens' vote as pro-Kerry. Hitchens shifted his opinion to "neutral", saying: "It's absurd for liberals to talk as if Kristallnacht is impending with Bush, and it's unwise and indecent for Republicans to equate Kerry with capitulation. There's no one to whom he can surrender, is there? I think that the nature of the jihadist enemy will decide things in the end". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Long_Short_War:_The_Postponed_Liberation_of_Iraq

Wikileaks Revisited, And Mueller Targeting Iraq War Architects

On this episode we revisit Wikileaks, and discuss the implications of the Assange case, some of the mysteries that continue to surround Wikileaks, and why being a whistleblower is more important than ever and a responsibility of every citizen. Then we discuss the recent news that the Mueller investigation is looking into John Hannah, an accomplice of Dick Cheney and Scooter Libby and one of the architects of the Iraq War, and how the investigation is zeroing in on very interesting people on multiple fronts. https://nakedsecurity.sophos.com/2018/11/19/did-a-copy-paste-error-reveal-the-uss-secret-case-against-assange/ https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2017/12/climategate-timeline-wikileaks-hacking-russia-trump/ https://www.theguardian.com/media/2018/nov/16/julian-assange-wikileaks-have-criminal-charges-been-prepared-us https://www.wsj.com/articles/u-s-is-optimistic-it-will-prosecute-assange-1542323142 https://sputniknews.com/europe/201811161069856101-assange-ecuador-wikileaks-uk-us-extradition/ https://www.yahoo.com/news/leaked-chat-logs-may-used-prove-julian-assange-directed-hackers-204302522.html https://www.ucsusa.org/global-warming/solutions/fight-misinformation/debunking-misinformation-stolen-emails-climategate.html#.W_DLbZNKgym https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Espionage_Act_of_1917 https://www.politico.eu/article/henry-kissinger-a-longtime-vladimir-putin-confidant-sidles-up-to-donald-trump/ https://larouchepub.com/eiw/public/1993/eirv20n18-19930507/eirv20n18-19930507_027-the_joftes_case_adl_spying_for_i.pdf http://www.intrepidreport.com/archives/12630 https://theconversation.com/russias-imperial-mindset-dates-back-centuries-and-it-is-here-to-stay-95832 https://talpiottalk.com/2018/09/15/jon-swinn-on-understanding-the-soviet-imperialist-mindset/ https://www.washingtoninstitute.org/uploads/Documents/pubs/NAVIGATING_THROUGH_TURBULENCE.pdf http://www.airforcemag.com/DocumentFile/Documents/2008/DiscriminateDeterrence_010188.pdf https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Center_for_the_National_Interest https://narativ.org/2018/11/16/kissinger-trump/ https://www.politico.com/story/2016/10/donald-trump-campaign-lobbyist-russian-pipeline-229264 https://investigaterussia.org/media/2018-01-19/suspicious-travel-money-laundering-and-mafia-ties https://english.gordonua.com/news/exclusiveenglish/who-is-dimitri-simes-and-why-is-he-trying-to-sink-mayflower-investigation-by-yuri-felshtinsky-316154.html https://larouchepub.com/eiw/public/1988/eirv15n23-19880603/eirv15n23-19880603_026-the_network_left_behind_after_th.pdf https://larouchepub.com/eiw/public/1998/eirv25n44-19981106/eirv25n44-19981106_055-the_israeli_spy_network_that_jon.pdf https://larouchepub.com/eiw/public/1993/eirv20n19-19930514/eirv20n19-19930514_064-new_evidence_of_adl_spying_for_i.pdf https://www.politico.com/story/2016/10/donald-trump-campaign-lobbyist-russian-pipeline-229264 Fulbright Israel Lobby hearings: http://israellobby.org/Senate/default.asp https://www.thedailybeast.com/top-cheney-aide-in-muellers-sights-as-probe-expands https://www.thedailybeast.com/saudi-spy-met-with-team-trump-about-taking-down-iran https://www.juancole.com/2004/02/john-hannah-allegedly-focus-of-plame.html https://journal-neo.org/2015/01/04/cia-torture-report-incriminates-dick-cheney/ https://wikispooks.com/wiki/John_Hannah https://lobelog.com/some-dubious-characters-connections-among-ex-military-foes-of-iran-deal/

Tom Cotton Thinks The Iraq War Was Justified

08:43
Several prominent Republicans have recently backed off from full support of the Iraq war, which is certainly a change of pace from just a few years ago. Do not get tricked into believing that all Republicans no longer support that disastrous war. John Iadarola (Think Tank) and Ben Mankiewicz (What The Flick) discuss the details of the story. Tell us what you think in the comment section below. Read more here: http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/tom-cotton-dont-be-ashamed-of-iraq-war/article/2564803 “Tom Cotton, the Iraq war veteran from Arkansas turned Republican senator, has a message to fellow soldiers: 'We should not be ashamed of the war we conducted in Iraq.' Leading Republicans are sticking by the Iraq war, declining to follow the Democrats into full retreat and regret. Cotton, while conceding that there are lessons to be learned from the conflict and that it might have been handled differently in retrospect, maintains that President George W. Bush made the best decision he could at the time based on the available intelligence about Saddam Hussein's presumed stockpile of weapons of mass destruction.” ••• Go to https://www.naturebox.com/tyt for a free trial and help us out while snacking out! ••• Get The Young Turks Mobile App Today! What if Iran Won the Iran-Iraq War? (Part 1 of 2)

The Iran-Iraq War was one of the most devastating conflicts of the 20th century, costing hundreds of thousands of lives on both sides. In the end, it resulted in just a stalemate. PROOF Bush Lied about excuse for Iraq War: 'Saddam didn't let UN weapons inspectors in' is a LIE!

President Bush lied repeatedly by claiming Saddam didn't let the inspectors in! THAT'S A LIE! Arms Inspectors By Dafna Linzer Washington Post Staff Writer http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A21854-2005Apr2.html "U.N. arms inspectors are privately complaining about the quality of U.S. intelligence and accusing the United States of sending them on wild-goose chases. ...In fact, the U.S. claim that Iraq is developing missiles that could hit its neighbors -- or U.S. troops in the region, or even Israel -- is just one of the claims coming from Washington that inspectors here are finding increasingly unbelievable. The inspectors have become so frustrated trying to chase down unspecific or ambiguous U.S. leads that they've begun to express that anger privately in no uncertain terms. U.S. COULD BE SET FOR ANOTHER IRAQ WAR IN SYRIA || WORLD NEWS RADIO

U.S. COULD BE SET FOR ANOTHER IRAQ WAR IN SYRIA || WORLD NEWS RADIO ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please subscribe us and get the latest World News Radio Alert daily. https://goo.gl/qpkQq5 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The U.S. may be headed down a similar path in Syria as it was in the lead-up to the Iraq War in 2003, a conflict that vastly changed the dynamics of the region and entrenched the Pentagon in the country to this day. In a press briefing following a meeting of the so-called United Nations "small group" on Syria—the U.S., Egypt, France, Germany, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and the United Kingdom— U.S. special envoy James Jeffrey outlined what many had criticized as a vague approach to Washington's true goals in the conflict. Since 2015, the U.S. has led a coalition tasked with bombing the Islamic State militant group (ISIS), but officials have said they did not plan on removing the military until forces allegedly under Iranian control were withdrawn and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was ousted. "The United States forces are in Syria for one mission, which is the enduring defeat of ISIS/Daesh, that is a military mission that flows from congressional authorization in 2001 against terror post-9/11. That's the military mission of our military there," Jeffrey told reporters. "When we say we're going to be present, not forever, in Syria, but present until our conditions—enduring defeat of ISIS ... the withdrawal of Iranian-commanded forces from the entirety of Syria and an irreversible political process—we're saying the United States as a whole," he added. "The president, as the commander-in-chief and the leader of our foreign policy has various options that involve the military, that involve our forces, remember we were present not in northern Iraq, but over northern Iraq in Operation Northern Watch for 13 years." Though Operation Northern Watch officially began in 1997, U.S. and allied forces had been actively enforcing no-fly zones over Iraq since the Gulf War of 1991, when the U.S. repelled Iraqi President Saddam Hussein's invasion of Kuwait and began to enforce strict economic and military measures against his government. Low-level skirmishes between U.S. and Iraqi air defenses persisted until days before the U.S. invaded in March 2003, holding Hussein responsible for weapons of mass destructions allegations that later proved to be false. President Donald Trump has provided conflicting opinions on the decision to invade Iraq, but he has often characterized himself as an opponent. During the height of the 2016 presidential election, the Republican candidate railed in an October rally against "the people who have given us decades of endless wars producing only death and bloodshed, but no victory." Days before his own election, he again complained to supporters about "these endless foreign wars that have made us much less safe." A year later, he tweeted ahead of a meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan last November about "the mess that [he] inherited in the Middle East," dreading "what a mistake, in lives and dollars (6 trillion), to be there in the first place!" A study published last month by Brown University's Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs backs up that number, and details at least 500,000 lives lost in its most conservative estimate of U.S. conflicts waged as part of the so-called "War on Terror" after 9/11. After becoming the main target of this 17-year campaign, ISIS has been heavily beaten since growing out of the Al-Qaeda-led Sunni Muslim insurgency in destabilized post-invasion Iraq, prompting Trump to be eager to pull out of Syria early this year. Nevertheless, his administration has since taken steps in the exact opposite direction, and the president himself has set his sights on enforcing regime change in Syria and pushing back Iran, which—along with Russia—has helped Assad remain in power. He maintained, however, that "we will stay in Syria until we get these goals." Iraq War, 20th March 2003

03:45
The Iraq war was very costly in lives both lost and damaged, particularly civilian, but the real number will probably never be known. As General Franks said; 'We don't do body counts'. It was a war waged on the false premise that Saddam Hussein had concealed weapons of mass destruction and that he was about to become a threat to world peace. The response from US President G.W Bush and UK Premier Blair was to start the 'shock and awe' attacks on 20th March 2003. Since then, civil liberties in these countries have been eroded under new 'Anti-Terror' Legislation and greater militarisation of the Police. Despite peace protests around the world, Iraq was devastated by the military might of these two nations. The actual average daily expenditure to rebuild Iraq was $15m over 10 years. Contracts worth $60Bn were handed out, from which at least $8bn was unaccounted. http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2013/03/us-may-have-wasted-8-billion-in-effort-to-rebuild-iraq/ Research in 2013 showed that the total cost to the US for the Iraq war stands at over $2 trillion American dollars, and with interest and other costs will likely rise to $6 trillion over the next 4 decades . http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/03/14/us-iraq-war-anniversary-idUSBRE92D0PG20130314 To put $2 trillion dollars into some perspective, if you were to burn or spend $25 million dollars every single day from today, it would take over 200 years to consume $2 trillion dollars. Fortunately therefore, despite the death, misery, destruction and suffering, there were those who made money from the war. And the Oil industry probably did alright too. It is one hundred years this year since the start of the 1st World War. I had thought the reason that wars persisted was because mankind was simply stupid. Now I realise its all about profit. Everything is a business model. Music by Adam Michaels - 'I was never there'. The lead vocal is not attributed. Title: I Was Never There : Artist : Adam Michaels Composer: Adam M. Legal basis for Iraq war 'far from satisfactory' says Chilcot - Daily Mail

02:10
The former prime minister was today accused of twisting intelligence about the threat posed by Saddam Hussein to justify the war that led to the deaths of 179 British soldiers. But Mr Blair insisted this afternoon: 'There were no lies - there was no deceit'. After seven years of deliberations, Sir John Chilcot’s 12 volume report (bottom right) said that the former prime minister overplayed evidence about the dictator's weaponry and ignored peaceful means to send troops into the country. In a devastating set of conclusions, Sir John (left) found Blair presented the case for war with 'a certainty which was not justified'. 29 secret letters Mr Blair wrote to George W Bush (together top right) were published for the first time today and in July 2002, eight months before MPs voted to back an invasion, Mr Blair had told the president: 'I will be with you, whatever'. On the day after 9/11 he told President Bush: 'Act now, explain later'. Iraq Lies Redux: Trump Admin Claims Iran/al-Qaeda Alliance

20:10
In an astonishing Washington Times article this week, unnamed Trump Administration officials (who may or may not be called "John Bolton") are claiming that Iran, which has been battling al-Qaeda in Syria for nearly four years, is actually secretly allied with al-Qaeda and therefore Iran can be attacked with no further Congressional authorization. Are we seeing the old "babies thrown from incubators" lies resurrected to gin up a war with Iran?

Bill Maher Defends Iraq War??

Bill Maher had a somewhat surprising take on the Iraq War. Maher admitted that in spite of originally thinking that Iraq would not be standing ten years down the road, "it's actually doing better than I thought it would be."?! Where does he see that better? Countless dead iraqis and americans. Bombs going up every day, country divaded and in in war between different ethnic and religious groups. WTF Bill?! I had some help from a clueless President George W. Bush and his neo-conservative puppet master, Vice President Dick Cheney. Senior White House fanatics spoon fed reporters like me cherry-picked intelligence about Iraq’s alleged Weapons of Mass Destruction so that America could invade Iraq and seize its oil. None of this is true, but many Americans continue to believe it. People died. It was a war. But President Bush didn’t lie us into it. The false narrative that he did is, itself, a lie and deserves to be, at last, retired. There was no shortage of mistakes about Iraq, and some of the media’s prewar WMD stories were wrong, including some of mine. But so is the enduring, pernicious accusation that the Bush administration fabricated WMD intelligence to take the country to war. Before the 2003 invasion, President Bush and other senior officials cited the intelligence community’s incorrect conclusions about Saddam’s WMD capabilities and, on occasion, went beyond them. But relying on the mistakes of others -- completely understandable mistakes given Saddam’s horrendous record -- and making errors of judgment are not the same as lying. American, European and arms-control experts, counterterrorism agents, and analysts who studied Iraq and briefed White House officials and journalists were the same people who gave me and my fellow reporters at the New York Times accurate information for years about Osama bin Laden and al Qaeda’s growing threat to America. In fact, eight months before 9/11, the Times published a series of articles on that threat -- a series for which the Times staff, including me, won a Pulitzer Prize. The members of the intelligence community with whom I dealt were overwhelmingly reliable, hardworking and honest. But they were also human, and, in the aftermath of 9/11, they were very wary of ever again underestimating a terrorist threat. Iraq Is Not America's to Sell: Naomi Klein on Ending the War in Iraq, Economic Reforms (2005)

01:59:01
Klein has written on various current issues, such as the Iraq War. In a September 2004 article for Harper's Magazine, she argues that, contrary to popular belief, the Bush administration did have a clear plan for post-invasion Iraq, which was to build a completely unconstrained free market economy. She describes plans to allow foreigners to extract wealth from Iraq, and the methods used to achieve those goals. The 2008 film War, Inc. was partially inspired by her article, Baghdad Year Zero. Klein's August 2004 "Bring Najaf to New York", published in The Nation, argued that Muqtada Al Sadr's Mahdi Army "represents the overwhelmingly mainstream sentiment in Iraq." She went on to say "Yes, if elected Sadr would try to turn Iraq into a theocracy like Iran, but for now his demands are for direct elections and an end to foreign occupation". Marc Cooper, a former Nation columnist, attacked the assertion that Al Sadr represented mainstream Iraqi sentiment and that American forces had brought the fight to the holy city of Najaf. Cooper wrote that "Klein should know better. All enemies of the U.S. occupation she opposes are not her friends. Or ours. Or those of the Iraqi people. I don't think that Mullah Al Sadr, in any case, is much desirous of support issuing from secular Jewish feminist-socialists." Klein contributes to The Nation, In These Times, The Globe and Mail, This Magazine, Harper's Magazine, and The Guardian. She once lectured as a Miliband Fellow at the London School of Economics as an award-winning journalist, writer on the anti-globalisation movement. She ranked 11th in an internet poll of the top global intellectuals of 2005, a list of the world's top 100 public intellectuals compiled by the Prospect magazine in conjunction with Foreign Policy magazine. She was involved in a protest condemning police action during the G20 summit in Toronto, ON. She spoke to a rally seeking the release of protesters in front of police headquarters on June 28, 2010. In May 2011, Klein received an honorary degree from Saint Thomas University. On October 6, 2011, she visited Occupy Wall Street and gave a speech declaring the protest movement "the most important thing in the world". On November 10, 2011, she participated in a panel discussion about the future of Occupy Wall Street with four other panelists, including Michael Moore, William Greider, and Rinku Sen, in which she stressed the crucial nature of the evolving movement. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naomi_Klein

Seymour Hersh: Propaganda Used Ahead of Iraq War Now Being Reused Over Iran's Nuke Program

21:42
www.democracynow.org - While the United States, Britain and Canada are planning to announce a coordinated set of sanctions against Iran's oil and petrochemical industry today, longtime investigative journalist Seymour Hersh questions the growing consensus on Iran's alleged nuclear weapons program. International pressure has been mounting on Iran since the U.N. International Atomic Energy Agency revealed in a report the "possible military dimensions" to Iran's nuclear activities, citing "credible" evidence that "indicates that Iran has carried out activities relevant to the development of a nuclear explosive device." In his latest article for The New Yorker blog, titled "Iran and the IAEA," Hersh argues the recent report is a "political document," not a scientific study, in an interview with Democracy Now! Nov. 21. "They [JSOC] found nothing. Nothing. No evidence of any weaponization," Hersh says. "In other words, no evidence of a facility to build the bomb. They have facilities to enrich, but not separate facilities to build a bomb. This is simply a fact." Years After This POW Was Rescued From Iraq, She Revealed The Astonishing Truth About Her Ordeal

06:15
Please do not forget to visit the site http://scribol.com contact us at:[email protected] http://watchjojo.com ************************************************************** As a prisoner of war in Iraq, American servicewoman Jessica Lynch dreamed of the day when she would taste freedom again. And that was a feeling she clung to until the time she was rescued by American troops. However, once on the outside, she knew she had to reveal the real truth of her widely publicized liberation. Lynch came into the world in April 1983 and grew up in Palestine, West Virginia. From an early age, she had a thirst for travel. “I wanted to improve my life and not just be there in Palestine forever,” she would later recall. “I wanted to get out and do something.” So she decided that after completing school, she would join the United States Army in a bid to realize her dream of exploring the world. However, her career choice to join the disciplined ranks of the military seemed at odds with her personality, according to Lynch’s father, Gregory. He described her as a defiant youngster. “If someone told her she couldn’t do something, she’d do it just to show them,” he was reported as saying by Biography.com. Following her graduation from Wirt County High School in Elizabeth, WV, Lynch headed off to South Carolina to begin training for a role in the military. It was September 2001 – just days after the 9/11 attacks on the U.S. Despite her enrolling in training during such a volatile period, Lynch didn’t think that she would actually be drafted to fight. Instead, she envisioned that her role within the military would be as a store clerk; she hoped that the position would help her develop business skills. In fact, Lynch only ever imagined spending a short time in the army before returning to her studies and becoming a teacher. However, her dreams were put on hold in 2003 when the Iraq war broke out, and Lynch was sent to the war zone alongside the 507th Maintenance Company. Unfortunately, it only took a matter of weeks for disaster to strike. Lynch and her fellow soldiers were in the Iraqi city of Nasiriya as part of a convoy when a fault in their navigational equipment inadvertently led them into enemy-held territory. The ensuing hour-and-a-half-long firefight cost the lives of 11 U.S. troops. Lynch was also injured during the incident and captured by Iraqi forces. Suddenly, Lynch found herself at the mercy of Saddam Hussein’s troops. Indeed, she was now classified as a prisoner of war and held at a Nasiriya’s Saddam Hospital. Lynch had no idea how long her ordeal would last or what her fate might be. In the end, Lynch was held for eight days before she was liberated. The story of her supposed rescue was later beamed home to television audiences across the U.S. The story served as some much needed propaganda for the government, which was seeking to justify the Iraq war to a domestic audience. TV footage showed Lynch smiling and relieved after her rescuers had seemingly stormed the compound and saved her life. Tales of Lynch’s heroism were spread far and wide by the U.S. military and media outlets hungry for a story. These included a version of events in which a badly wounded Lynch had earlier fired upon Iraqi forces until she had eventually ran out of ammo and was captured. ************************************************************** ►web: http://watchjojo.com ► SUBSCRIBE US: https://goo.gl/Z4nZcg ► Follow Us On Google Plus: https://goo.gl/JYf9Rr ► Like us Our Facebook Page: https://goo.gl/C5Rv92 ► Follow On Twitter: https://goo.gl/PZ2U1R ►For more articles visit: http://scribol.com ►reference: https://goo.gl/scF316 #watchjojo

Iraq War is costing $330 million a day??? - Oct.22/07-CNN

02:01
It's incredible that the Iraq War costs $330 million a day. Bush wants another $46 billion for Iraq War despite the fact that majority leaders estimates cost of Iraq war near $650 billion. This is a far cry from the $100 - $200 billion Bush had initially predicted in 2001. The CNN website article can be read here: http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/10/22/war.spending/index.html Incidentally, according to the Boston Globe, economists say the total cost of the Iraq War could top $2 trillion. http://www.boston.com/news/world/articles/2006/01/08/economists_say_cost_of_war_could_top_2_trillion/
