Asset Management: Industry Overview and Careers in Asset Management

04:45
Asset Management: Industry overview and Careers in Asset Management Asset Management is about managing clients’ investments and providing them with the strategies and expertise that would allow them to achieve their goals and secure their financial future. This video is part of our series dedicated to the different sub-industries in the world of Business & Finance. Our goal is to understand how it functions, what type of services it offers its clients, which are the major players in the field and what it is like to do this for a living. An individual or an institution is likely to approach an asset management firm when their investment income is substantial. In such cases, asset managers are able to offer expertise across a wide spectrum of asset classes (such as stocks, bonds, commodities, real estate, private equity, etc). Moreover, large firms have branches all over the world and are therefore able to offer geographical expertise as well. Given that asset managers closely follow all of these markets, they are able to offer high-quality advice and superior risk-return investments. The large players in the asset management industry are indeed very large. There are several companies whose assets under management exceed $1 trillion. Some of them are pure investment funds (BlackRock, Vanguard, StateStreet, Fidelity), while others are arms of the large banking conglomerates (Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank, UBS, BNP). The largest firm in the world in terms of assets under management in 2015 was BlackRock. 02:53
Subscribe for more great videos, or check out: www.SRPL.net ========================== My poor dad always told me to me go to school and get a high-paying job. That’s not creating wealth. That's a job. My rich dad on the other hand always says work for assets. There are basically 4 asset classes that makes a person rich. Number 1 is Business. The richest young guys today start companies. Some great examples of this are Facebook, Google, Apple, etc. Number 2 is real estate. What my rich dad taught me is the combination of being an entrepreneur in business and an entrepreneur in real estate. Now due to this combination, I pay no tax and I make a lot more money. The 3rd asset is Paper. Savings in gold, papers like stocks bonds mutual funds are liquid. You make a mistake, you can get in and out real quick. The last asset is Commodities and this is why I own oil because in the U.S. if you deal in oil, you get tax breaks. So oil is very profitable. ========================== Subscribe for more great videos, or check out: www.SRPL.net

Asset vs. Share Purchase - How to Sell a Business How to Buy a Business - David C Barnett

11:23
http://www.BusinessBuyerAdvantage.com http://www.HowToSellMyOwnBusiness.com http://www.InvestLocalBook.com Buying assets vs. buying shares When buying or selling a business, a common question that comes up is whether to buy or sell the shares or the assets of the business. For some people who are not familiar with this, the concept can be hard to grasp. That’s why I made this video to explain things in simple terms: https://youtu.be/HgDLgwbXgj0 Here’s an illustration. Imagine that Mark owns a lawn maintenance company; Mark’s Lawns Inc. Mark’s Lawns Inc. owns a tractor. If you wanted to get into the lawn maintenance business you could buy Mark’s Lawns Inc. The ownership of the tractor doesn’t change. It was and still is owned by Mark’s Lawns Inc. In this case, the seller is Mark. He’s selling the shares of the corporation to you. The other way to buy the business would be to buy the tractor. In this case, Mark’s Lawns Inc. is the seller. The ownership of Mark’s Lawns Inc. doesn’t change. Mark will still own this corporation after the transaction, the only difference is that the company will have money in it instead of a tractor. Because corporations are people under the law, a share sale makes a new owner subject to liabilities to past events. An attorney will do their best to structure warranties to try to protect a buyer but at the end of the day, a share sale could expose a buyer to unwanted liabilities. Asset sales are technically just the purchase of ‘stuff.’ In this regard a buyer doesn’t necessarily have to worry about most of the past issues with the corporation. Also there are usually tax advantages for buyers who buy assets because equipment that may have been fully depreciated by a seller may now appear on the buyer’s books at fair market value and can be depreciated again by the buyer. Seller’s know this and there is an equal tax disadvantage vis-à-vis depreciated equipment. Also, in some places, such as Canada, there is preferred tax treatment on the sale of shares of an eligible corporation. So when people ask me if they should buy or sell shares or assets I tell them this: Buyers should try to buy assets, sellers should try to sell shares but at the end of the day it doesn’t matter. The type of transaction will form part of the negotiation. Let me give you a simple example. A seller wants $250,000 for their business. A buyer offers $200,000. The seller says that they can’t go that low unless the buyer is willing to purchase shares… a deal is struck. The tax advantages/disadvantages of either form of sale are known by both parties and can sometimes be estimated by both parties. As such, it just comes down to dollars and cents in most cases.. unless there are specific reasons to buy shares such as contracts, government regulation, etc… but that is a subject for another day. 3 Minutes! CAPM Finance and the Capital Asset Pricing Model

02:47
omg Wow! So easy clicked here http://mbabullshit.com/ for CAPM or Capital Asset Pricing Model Formula If You Like My Free Videos, Support Me at https://www.patreon.com/MBAbull Imagine you have a friend named Bob with his money safely deposited in a bank at a 5% interest rate per year and that you have a scary and risky company which also earns an average 5% profit for owners or investors per year. Can you convince Bob to withdraw his money from the bank and invest in your business? No way! If your business is riskier than the bank, then Bob would want an average return much bigger than 5%. Now what if... Bob also has some money invested in the general stock market, which is kinda risky, but not as risky as your scary company... and he earns an average profit of 8% per year. Can you offer Bob also 8% to convince him to sell his stock market portfolio and invest in your company instead? Again, no way! If your company is riskier and scarier than the general stock market, then you would have to offer Bob an average return higher than 8%, to reward Bob for his higher risk. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gzxKd2S2MdU So the question now is... exactly how much average % return should you offer Bob, to make his investment worth his risk in your scary company? This % is called your "cost of equity"... and we calculate it using the CAPM or Capital Asset Pricing Model Formula. The Capital Asset Pricing Model or CAPM formula factors in Bob's risk and return from his other investments, and then tells us how much Bob should reasonably expect from your riskier company. That's why your "cost of equity" is also called your investor's "expected return." Would you like learn the CAPM with more analysis and detail as well as how to calculate it the EASY way? Check out my free step-by-step tutorial video and download my free cheat-sheet on CAPM at MBAbullshit.com. See ya there!

What does an Asset Manager do?

01:46
You want to dive deep into the world of finance and management? Visit us: http://www.frankfurt-school.de/en/home/programmes.html?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=ACQUISITION Asset management is the administration of assets. Depending on the investor’s goals and their willingness to take risks, an asset manager compiles a portfolio. Security papers, that promise a high return are usually rather risky. A skilled asset manager thus should create a portfolio which balances out an appropriate level of risk with suitable returns. This task can be compared to the work a chef does when assembling a multiple course menu for his guests. The chef will purchase the necessary ingredients at a food market – the asset manager procures security papers from the capital market. He needs to consider and incorporate his client’s willingness to take risks – the chef on the other hand needs to cater to his guest’s tastes. Too little salt is just as detrimental as too much of it. While the chef is able to check his dishes by tasting them, the asset manager has to go to greater lengths to verify his portfolio. Possible returns as well as risks refer to the future. Here, complex political, economical or psychological factors have to be taken into account. Assessing these is what makes asset management interesting and challenging in the present, it’s results and quality may only be experienced in the future, though.

Warren Edward Buffett (born August 30, 1930) is an American investor, business magnate, and philanthropist. He is considered by some to be one of the most successful investors in the world, and as of February 2017 is the second wealthiest person in the United States with a total net worth of $76.9 billion. Born in Omaha, Buffet developed an interest in investing in his youth, eventually entering the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1947 before transferring and graduating from University of Nebraska–Lincoln. After graduating at 19, Buffet enrolled at Columbia Business School of Columbia University, learning and eventually creating his investment philosophy around a concept pioneered by Benjamin Graham–value investing. He attended New York Institute of Finance to specialize his economics background and soon after began various business partnerships, including one with Graham. After meeting Charlie Munger, Buffet created the Buffett Partnership. His firm would eventually acquire a textile manufacturing firm called Berkshire Hathaway and assume its name to create a diversified holding company. Buffet has been the chairman and largest shareholder of Berkshire Hathaway since 1970, and his business exploits have had him referred to as the "Wizard", "Oracle" or "Sage" of Omaha by global media outlets. He is noted for his adherence to value investing and for his personal frugality despite his immense wealth. Source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warren_Buffett

What is an OEIC (Open Ended Investment Company) ?

01:46
Welcome to the Investors Trading Academy talking glossary of financial terms and events. Our word of the day is “Open Ended Investment Company (OEIC)” Primarily in the United Kingdom, a mutual fund in which the number of shares may be increased or decreased depending on the amount of money invested in the company. This means that the fund's capitalization is not fixed, and changes upon the demand of shareholders. In other words, an open-end investment company issues new stock when people invest in it, and buys back old shares when investors want to be rid of them. The latter is referred to as redeeming one's share of the mutual fund. The value of each share is the net portfolio value divided by the number of shares. In the United States, this investment vehicle is usually called an open-end mutual fund. The company pools money it raises by selling shares in a fund and the fund's manager invests in stock, bonds, money market instruments, or a combination of these asset classes to meet the fund's specific objectives. However, the open-end company may stop selling new shares in a fund if it decides the fund has grown too large to invest additional assets effectively. In contrast, when a closed-end investment company creates a fund, it issues only a limited number of shares, and those shares trade on the secondary market as shares of stock do. If you purchase fund shares directly from the open-end investment company, you pay the current net asset value (NAV) per share. You also redeem shares at the NAV that's current at the time you sell. If you buy shares through a broker or other investment professional, you may pay an up-front sales charge, or load. By Barry Norman, Investors Trading Academy - ITA

Uptrend Timeline for Uptrend Asset Management, an Alternative Investment Management firm.

00:52
Graceful Grady (Founder of Uptrend Asset Management) displays a unique and fun timeline from being a self proclaimed child prodigy to leading Uptrend Asset Management, an alternative investment firm. We focus our success on utilizing an opportunistic, equity long/short strategy. Our slogan is, "we have the edge in hedge" and we intend to do this by capitalizing on trends and events. We are not looking to be a "market trends and events" type firm but more of the true sense of the words "trends and events" with sustainability. They say style resurfaces about every 20 years; we consider our style the Peter Lynch theory of the general public. Our investment philosophy involves disciplined, fundamental, opportunistic, and research oriented investing. Visit www.uptrendassets.com.

The earlier you start investing, the sooner you can make mistakes and learn from them, and you have a higher risk tolerance. Stefan started from nothing, and has been able to build himself up to a millionaire, at 30 years old. Are you ready to invest in your future? Leda Braga: Data science and its role in investment strategy

33:17
The CEO of Systematica Investments discusses how her company employs technology to achieve returns. As the first financial services industry speaker at the Women in Data Science (WiDS) conference, keynote presenter Leda Braga, CEO of Systematica Investments, introduced attendees to the role of data science applied to investment. Braga’s company manages large pools of assets from pension funds to insurance company premiums, to sovereign wealth funds of various countries. As a hedge fund manager, the company focuses on two areas of investment management – signal generation and portfolio construction. Signal generation is the process of trying to predict what assets should be bought or sold. Portfolio construction is the process of organizing investments strategically to meet investment objectives and achieve returns. Portfolio construction is essentially a constrained optimization problem, Braga notes, and as a result, it is an area where data science can help illuminate the best solutions. At Systematica Investments, the company uses data and algorithms to determine how to maximize financial returns given a number of variables with specific constraints within financial markets and environments. At the end of the day, she says, the business of investment management is the business of information management. Braga believes a passion for data science coupled with an interest in making a difference matters in the field of strategic investing. Worldwide, professionally managed assets are valued at $80 trillion. “If you want to change the world,” she says, “bank your money in the right places. And if you think about investment management as this activity whereby the pools of capital of the world get directed, that is so powerful. And if that is going to become completely data driven over time, you can’t miss that opportunity. You’ve got to join in and have a say.”
