Wireshark 101: The OSI Model, Hak5 116

08:28
Today on HakTip, Shannon Morse discusses the OSI Model and how it relates to Wireshark for packet analysis. Today we're checking out more Wireshark - understanding protocols and the OSI model. If you're still wondering why the heck one would use Wireshark, now is the time to pay attention. We're having some fun with packet sniffing and analysis. But what is that? Packet sniffing is pretty self-descriptive. You're digging under the applications on your computer or network and looking through the packets that are flowing along your connection. Analyzing these packets will help you determine if there is a problem with the network, checking to see if someone is on your network who shouldn't be, figuring out what traffic is making you hit your data cap, or finding out if some malicious is going on. Wireshark supports a bunch of different protocols when you want to analyze data, such as TCP, ARP, HTTP, DNS, and more. When capturing data, Wireshark makes you go into something called Promiscuous Mode. It's kind of like chilling in a dark corner of a coffee shop and overhearing all the conversations around you. They aren't directed at you, but since you're in proximity, you can still hear what people are talking about. If you've ever seen this thing called the OSI model, it'll give you a good idea of how this information in a computer is transferred and how it's actually seen by an end user. The OSI model has 7 layers to it, starting with application at the top. This is what mom sees when she logs into her operating system. Presentation is next and shows the computer data in a way the application can understand, such as a jpeg, or an mp3, etc.Third down is Session, which will manage the connection between two hosted computers, and it makes sure your connection doesn't just stop suddenly. Transport is fourth down, and is where TCP and UDP live. It manages traffic between point a and point b to make sure data gets transferred error free. This is where things like proxy servers and firewalls live. Then Network, which is where routers live. The network layer makes sure the routing of data between two physical points is correct. Data link is sixth down, and operates using MAC address, bridges, and more to identify physical devices. Lastly is Physical which is the actual hardware that data is transferred through. By understanding that different protocols work on different OSI layers, it'll help you figure out and fix problems on your network. Application layer includes: HTTP SMTP FTP Telnet Presentation: ASCII, JPEG, MP3, MPEG Session:: NetBIOS, SAP etc Transport: TCP, UDP, etc Network: IP Data link: Ethernet, etc Physical: Cat 5. Each layer sits on top of another to ensure proper delivery of data from one place to another. If any of these layers fail, you then end up with an error. By understanding that I can't browse the internet if there is some sort of IP error, I know that my network layer is at fault. If I know that everything works correctly on my end and someone else isn't receiving my information, I know it is a problem with one of their OSI layers, and we can then fix the problem. This is why we have pretty Wireshark, which will help us determine which protocol is failing, what layer, and be able to fix it. Now that we understand the OSI model layers, lets take a look at Wireshark. I've done a packet capture of my Wi-Fi with some quick internet browsing. Everything is working correctly, so no OSI layers are erroring out. If you want to take a look at the layers in Wireshark though, there is a way. Go to Statistics at the top and click on Protocol Hierarchy. This gives you statistics based on the packets and bytes transferred at each stage of the capture. Protocols are divided by type. You start with the frame (which is physical), then go down to Ethernet (Data link layer). Drop down to Internet Protocol on the Network layer, then TCP and UDP on the Transport layer. Under here we have SSL at the Session layer and HTTP on the Application layer. BAM. Now you know how your network is set up in the form of layers, and Wireshark makes all of this easy as pie. Let me know what you think. Send me a comment below or email us at [email protected] And be sure to check out our sister show, Hak5 for more great stuff just like this. I'll be there, reminding you to trust your technolust. -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Please watch: "Bash Bunny Primer - Hak5 2225" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8j6hrjSrJaM -~-~~-~~~-~~-~-

5 Cycling Skills You Can Learn Anywhere | GCN's Pro Cycling Tips

02:39
5 cycling skills that you can learn anywhere. Some are essential bike skills, others are just fun... But, all of them will help to push your riding and general skill level on. Practice them and let us know how you get on! Subscribe to GCN: http://gcn.eu/SubscribeToGCN Get exclusive GCN gear in the GCN shop! http://gcn.eu/PH 00:14 #1 Cycling Backwards Riding backwards?! Right. It's not an essential skill, but, it's going to help with balance, pedalling skills and more! Can you do this one? Tell us down in the comments 👇 00:37 #2 Bunnyhop We have covered the bunnyhop a lot. It's an essential skill. You don't need to be able to bunnyhop really high, but, you do need to be able to bunnyhop over curbs, over road debris and more. If you can't bunnyhop, you need to learn! Find a soft grass area or bit of space and get to work. Search "bunnyhop gcn" on YouTube for more of our tutorials including one by the legendary Martyn Ashton. 01:07 #3 The Wheelie Another skill we've repeatedly said you should learn. Sure, you might never want to do the perfect wheelie, find your balance point and ride on your back wheel for miles, but, if you can effectively lift your front wheel up, it'll help you to climb better off-road, get on and off curbs and avoid trash in the road. 01:37 #4 The Trackstand Let's call this one a near-essential skill. Whether you're balancing at traffic lights, or, just riding really slowly up a climb like Lasty, this one will be useful. Again, we have some detailed tutorials on this – search "trackstand gcn" for more. 01:55 #5 Picking up objects Picking up objects is not an essential skill, but, again, practicing this one will help you to move on your riding, particularly one handed. Got a favourite cycling skill? Should we make a part 2? Tell us in the comments and we'll set Chris a few challenges. 10 Ways to Overcome a Fear of Networking

03:06
To learn more about honing your networking skills, see our article at mindtools.com/fear-networking Networking is an essential part of any job. It can help us to make important connections and to discover new opportunities. But, it can be difficult to overcome networking nerves. So, here’s 10 tips that can help... 1. Be selective. You don’t need to go to every event or speak to everyone. Instead, focus on meeting the right people, at the right time and place. 2. Do your homework. Get a list of event attendees and focus on the ones you’d most like to meet. Research their interests and careers, and connect with them on social media. 3. Set goals. Why do you want to network? Is there a specific person you want to meet? Or, do you want to learn more about an industry sector or product? 4. Consider conversation. Become an expert in small talk by preparing an informal opener and some questions. And don’t forget to listen carefully to the answers! 5. Arrive early. Find yourself a good place to talk, go over your opening lines, and catch up with the organizers and other early arrivals. 6. Take a friend. Taking a buddy can help break the ice with strangers, and may widen your circle of potential connections. 7. Send the right signals. Fear can come through in our body language. Be relaxed but alert, and remember to smile! 8. Be realistic. Networking isn’t a one-way street. Don’t feel pressured to fill every gap in the conversation, or to act inauthentically. 9. Take a break. Networking events can be draining. So, be sure to take a time out when you feel your energy dipping. 10. Know when to call time. Don’t drag out conversations. Instead, aim for short chats that leave a positive and lasting impression.

How To Race Cyclo-Cross - Essential Racing Skills | Matt Does Cyclo-Cross Ep. 7

05:13
It's Matt's last chance to fine-tune his skills before his big race. Become a fan of GCN: http://gcn.eu/SubscribeToGCN Resident 'cross expert Tom Last took Matt to Belgium, the home of cyclo-cross, to talk him through exactly what to expect on race day. Riders will generally have the opportunity to ride the course prior to the race. This is the time to visualise the kind of lines you'll take during the race and decide which parts of the course you should run/ride. After that, you've got a quick chance to get cleaned up before the race itself. In terms of strategy, it's good to get a fast start as we mentioned before, but as for the majority of the race, it's best to keep an even tempo so you don't blow up too early on. GCN's Top 5 Cyclocross Skills Every Rider Needs

06:22
With the cyclocross season in full swing, Simon has some top tips to help improve your off-road riding, and hopefully to help you enjoy cyclocross even more than you already do! Subscribe to GCN: http://gcn.eu/SubscribeToGCN Register your interest in the GCN Club: http://gcn.eu/vs Get exclusive GCN gear in the GCN shop! http://gcn.eu/vt First up, and it is a big one, a key difference between riding off-road and on-road is that sliding in a corner doesn't have to spell disaster. Far from it, in fact. Sliding is one of the coolest things about cross. You need a nice loose or slippery surface, not too hard to find off-road, and as you approach the corner, keep your weight central on the bike, your outside foot down, which will keep your bum really close to the saddle. If the back wheel starts to go, the fun really starts, 'cause you then steer away from the turn and keep the slide going. Sometimes you actually do want to lay down some power and accelerate and then the slippery trail means that you don't actually go anywhere. But you could find that there is more traction available than you first thought. You want to be peddling ever so slightly slower than you would do on the road. Now, the other thing is to make sure that your weight is firmly in the saddle, because having your weight further back helps to drive that rear tire into the ground where it can hopefully hook up. Bumps kill your speed. Each time you hit one, it slows you down. But fortunately, there is a good technique for overcoming them. Now, firstly, power really helps. So if there is a really bumpy section, you hit it really hard, and then when it smooths out afterwards, you can ease off and recover, but overall you will have gone faster. And then your actual technique on the bike. You want to be absorbing bumps with your body, but only up to a point, because if you get too floppy, you're just gonna get knocked around all over the place. No skill separates the cross veteran from the newbie quite like the running remount. Do bear in mind, that you're never gonna nail this technique unless you practice it. So take every opportunity you get. In fact, something that I've taken from our own Mr. Last is the mantra that you should never get on a stationary cross bike. Okay, so one of the most important skills with riding cyclocross is actually the ability to laugh at yourself when you're lying on your ass in the mud, because, unfortunately, it is an inevitability of riding off-road. Just ask Mathieu van der Poel or Sven Nys. Now, of course, crashing isn't fast per se, so you're better off not crashing, but you just have to realize the fact that because of the way that you have less traction, you are unfortunately, sometimes, gonna hit the deck. Do you have any top cyclocross tips? Let us know in the comments below 👇 If you'd like to contribute captions and video info in your language, here's the link 👍 http://gcn.eu/vu Watch more on GCN... 5 Must Have Skills To Become Machine Learning Engineer

04:55
Hello Everyone!!! Let's check out what are the 5 must-have skills to become a machine learning engineer. First, let's understand what machine learning is. In simple words., Machine learning is all about making the computers to perform intelligent tasks without explicitly coding. This is achieved by training the computer with lots and lots of data. For example: Detecting whether a mail is a spam or not, recognizing handwritten digits, Fraud detection in Transactions... and many such applications... Now let's see what are the top 5 skills to get a machine learning job. 1). At number 1, we have Math Skills: Under math skills, we need to know probability and statistics, linear algebra and calculus. Probability and Statistics: Machine learning is very much closely related to statistics. You need to know the fundamentals of statistics and probability theory, descriptive statistics, Baye's rule and random variables, probability distributions, sampling, hypothesis testing, regression and decision analysis. Linear Algebra: You need to know how to with matrices and some basic operations on matrices such as matrix addition, subtraction, scalar and vector multiplication, inverse, transpose and vector spaces. Calculus: In calculus, you need to know the basics of differential and integral calculus. 2). At number two we have Programming skills: A little bit of coding skills is enough. But it's preferred to have the knowledge of data structures, algorithms and Object Oriented Programming (or OOPs) concepts. Some of the popular programming languages to learn for machine learning is Python, R, Java, and C++. It's your preference to master any one programming language. But its advisable to have a little understanding of other languages and what their advantages and disadvantages are over your preferred one. 3). At number 3 we have Data engineer skills: Ability to work with large amounts of data (or big data), Data preprocessing, the knowledge of SQL and NoSQL, ETL (or Extract Transform and Load) operations, data analysis and visualization skills. 4). Next, we have Knowledge of Machine Learning Algorithms: you should be familiar with popular machine learning algorithms such as linear regression, logistic regression, decision trees, random forest, clustering (like K means, hierarchical), reinforcement learning and neural networks. 5). And Finally, The Knowledge of Machine Learning Frameworks: You Should be Familiar with popular machine learning frameworks such as sci-kit learn, tensorflow, Azure, caffe, theano, spark and torch. How To Draft Like A Pro | Essential Cycling Skills

04:59
Whether you call it drafting, slipstreaming, riding on a wheel or sitting behind others, it's a crucial skill if you want to learn how to ride with other cyclists. Here's how to do it! Subscribe to GCN: http://gcn.eu/SubscribeToGCN Get exclusive GCN gear in the GCN shop! http://gcn.eu/4l There are various terms for this particular skill. It may also be referred to as sitting on the wheel, sitting in, drafting, sat on, giving a tow and many more! Once mastered this skill, you can reap the benefits. It will have you saving you 30-40% energy compared to riding on the front in the wind, helping you ride further as well as gaining riding confidence. It's important to initially practice this as much as possible, start by riding approximately half a wheel (30cm) behind the rider in front, who has to be riding smoothly. As your confidence grows gradually reduce this distance until your front wheel is around 15cm behind the rider in front's rear wheel. Key tips: - Remember to keep your head up so you can see any changes in direction ahead. Don't stare in a trance like state at the wheel in front of you, just the occasional check to make sure of your distance. - Avoid heavy braking as it will require more energy to get back onto the wheel in front, it's better to feather the brakes to scrub off any speed. - The direction of the wind plays a very important part of sitting on a wheel, our graphics in the video show you just how to do it! What are your tips for sitting on the wheel in front? Let us know in the comments 👇 Watch more on GCN... 5 Ways To Look More Like A Pro Cyclist

04:21
We all want to look more pro on our bikes and there are various ways you can achieve this. Aside from riding technique which we covered in an earlier video, we give you five skills and hacks that’ll make anyone think you must be a pro! NEW GCN Fan Kit: http://gcn.eu/JW Subscribe to GCN: http://gcn.eu/SubscribeToGCN Register your interest in the GCN Club: http://gcn.eu/JV Subscribe to GCN en Español: http://gcn.eu/gcn-en-espanol No-handed. Now we don’t mean riding around the whole time with your hands off the bars, in our opinion, it doesn’t look very cool, and ultimately isn’t the safest thing to do. But being good at riding no-handed is definitely pro. Pros can’t stop in the middle of a race to take of a rain jacket or to open a tricky energy bar. So riding no-handed is just second nature to a pro. The ultimate no handed skill has to be getting changed while riding up a hill at a slow speed. This does take a bit of practice as the slower speeds do naturally cause the bike to wobble around more. Poker face. Look at most pros riding up a climb and they just seem to be cruising, you can almost never tell how hard they are working! So how do they do it, are pros always riding easy? Well no, obviously they’re not just not trying the whole time, some pros do actually put work into looking as relaxed as they can while riding hard. There is an element of this that’s performance enhancing, the theory going that if your body is more relaxed you’re expending less energy. But the real reason pros try and look easy when they’re working hard is as a psychological tool against their competitors. If you enjoyed this video, make sure to give it a thumbs up and share it with your friends. 👍 If you'd like to contribute captions and video info in your language, here's the link - http://gcn.eu/JT Watch more on GCN... 7 Ways You’re Slowing Yourself Down Without Realising

04:45
You’re out on a ride giving it everything and no matter what you try, you find yourself questioning why you are not getting faster. We give you seven ways that you could be slowing yourself down without realising it! NEW GCN Fan Kit: http://gcn.eu/J- Subscribe to GCN: http://gcn.eu/SubscribeToGCN Register your interest in the GCN Club: http://gcn.eu/JZ Subscribe to GCN en Español: http://gcn.eu/gcn-en-espanol Are you inadvertently wearing baggy clothes? Are you unzipping your top layers and letting them flap around when warm? Or is it that your clothes for whatever reason, just don’t quite work for you on the bike? Maybe you should opt for that slightly smaller jersey? You could even consider changing your clothing to specifically faster items, designed to be faster than not only standard clothes, but also faster than your skin, even! Find yourself gasping for breath at the top of climbs? Having sprinted up the fast section at the bottom and rolled slowly over the top, only to freewheel down the other side? This isn’t fast, nor is it efficient! Build your momentum on descents, then slowly allow yourself to ease into a more sustainable effort through the middle section of a climb. Then, as you start to crest the climb, push a little harder on the pedals over the top and into the descent down the other side. This decreases the amount of dead time, where you transition from slow climbing/recovery speed. Do you have any ideas of your own? Let us know in the comments. 👇 If you enjoyed this video, make sure to give it a thumbs up and share it with your friends. 👍 If you'd like to contribute captions and video info in your language, here's the link - http://gcn.eu/JY Watch more on GCN... Blake Does The Megavalanche

15:59
Blake has wanted to take part in the Mega since he first slung a leg over a fat-tyred bicycle, and this video captures Blake’s whole adventure - from arriving in Alp d’Huez and finding out about the infamous race; to getting into shape out on the trails on his new Nukeproof Mega enduro bike before taking part in the race… Subscribe to GMBN: http://gmbn.eu/subscribe Get exclusive GMBN gear in the GMBN store! http://gmbn.eu/rU The French town of Alpe d’Huez may be famous for it’s 21 hair-pinned climb in the road cycling world - but amongst mountain bikers it is known as home to the Megavalanche - the gnarliest MTB race ever! The Megavalanche is a mass start Endurance Downhill race that starts at the dizzying 3300m height of Pic Blanc - on a ferociously steep and rocky slope that leads riders to a glacier. If riders survive the glacier they must navigate miles of savagely rocky single track, before passing through Alp d’Huez and into steep, wooded trails at breakneck speed. If things go well racers will arrive in Allemond - some 30km later - after a whopping 2000metres of descending.
