When to Exchange Money for Your Trip Abroad
Ever wonder when you should get your foreign currency for your trip abroad? Well here we talk about when you should get your foreign currency. And your best bet is to get it when you go abroad. You will get a better exchange rate for that currency in the country versus getting it before you go. Make sure you use your home local bank ATM debit card and take money out of ATMs abroad. On average that will give you the best exchange rate. Also, do not go for the automatic conversions to your local currencies that some ATMs offer. Most likely you would get a better exchange rate from your local bank instead. Filmed in Kilkenney, Ireland Copyright Mark Wolters 2017 ps. Thanks Len for the question on twitter! Thailand Tips: Money Exchange, Cash or ATM? The cheapest options
This is my new series of vlogs. I am NOT an expert and I do NOT know everything, so what I say in these vlogs is based on my personal experience or research. I have been a visitor to Thailand for 2 years this month (October), I first went on a "last ditch, what the hell" trip following my failed back surgery. I could hardly walk and took my walking aid with me. I went to Udon Thani to go to an Agency for finding Thai ladies, who suggested that my disablement was not a factor in finding a nice lady for long term relationship. The agency allegedly vet the members and a lot of their clients come from America. The owner is an ex-Brit and his wife a Thai, had started the agency because of their experiences with relationships etc. So, I have a Thai wife and have been going back and forth for two years. During 2015 my wife got a visitor visa and came to the UK for 6 months. Unfortunately the UK Immigration denied a second visa this year based on made up reasons. THIS EPISODE: Money exchange and the best way of getting cash for changing into Thai Baht. i used to do the ATM thing, but realised I am getting hammered with charges in thailand and back home. As suggested by several vloggers, I am going to try the take money with me idea and use currency exchange booths to see if it is cheaper. The best way to exchange money when travelling
What is the best way to exchange money? That’s easily the question I get asked the most these days. Maybe it’s because finding deals on flights and hotels are a little easier these days but it’s more likely that people are just more aware of how exchange rates affect us. A couple of years ago, the Canadians dollar was on par with the U.S. dollar but now we’re at historic lows. When Brexit happened, the English Pound dropped in value which made it a buying opportunity for those who were heading over to the U.K. The point is, currency exchange rates change all the time and there’s not much we can do about it. Instead of worrying about the exchange rates, we should focus on minimizing the fees we pay.

People rush to exchange money after British Pound plummeted
(5 Jul 2016) LEAD IN: Currency exchange houses in the UAE are reporting an increase in the number of remittances to the UK following the weakening of the pound after the UK's referendum result to leave the EU. Analysts predict the real estate and tourism sectors will be most affected by the decision. STORY-LINE: British fifty pound notes - customers can get more of these for their dirham at the currency exchange counter now. Money exchange companies in the UAE have noted an eight-fold increase in the number of remittances sent to the UK following the British referendum to leave the European Union. The vote triggered a drop in the value of sterling and now there's an influx of people exchanging their currency for pounds. The CEO of UAE Exchange, one of the largest money exchange companies in the UAE, says that trend is normal when a currency weakens. "People take advantages of that position because that's a windfall," says Promoth Manghat. For instance now, Sterling which we were trading at like 5.3 to 5.4 against (the) dirham which is now 4.7 to 4.8, there's a substantial fall in terms of the value." But he predicts demand will settle down if the new rates become "normal". The United Kingdom's referendum result to leave the European Union sent shock waves across global markets. World financial markets plunged following the referendum results, and all Gulf stock markets dropped. In the aftermath of the vote, the pound dropped to its weakest level in more than three decades, raising concern over the real estate market in the UAE, with analysts predicting that UK-based investors will be less likely to spend in a dollar-pegged economy. Manghat says the impact will be felt in the real estate and tourism sectors in the UAE. Exchange officer stealing customers money in London.
A few days ago in London I was with some friends and one needed to exchange some money from Swedish crowns to UK £. We approach this officer working at this converting office opposite of Queensway station called “Chequepoint”. We said that we were thinking of converting Swedish crowns to UK Pounds money, he asked new or old and we said new. He said show me, so we dropped the money in the box on his request. However, we did not tell him to exchange it, we asked for the exchange rate. While we were busy calculating the difference in value this official knowing we were tourists without our authorisation he made a transaction. He gave us British pounds £ at a very low rate and told us he refused to change it, he also stated that the police couldn’t do anything as he does that all the time and that scaring people was their business. We called the police and they arrived very late (hours later), the police officers refused to take any action calling it a civil law matter, even though we tried explaining that to the best of our knowledge this mans actions satisfied all the required elements of Theft under Theft Act 1968. As the act S1(1) states “A person is guilty of theft if he dishonestly appropriates property belonging to another with the intention of permanently depriving the other of it” This took place as he stole our property and return difference currency at lower value without given authorisation. He admitted to doing that on video and we go three voice recordings of him admitting to his crime. Eitherway, this man is a thief proven by his own words in the above video and in the voice recordings. So be people do not change money at “Chequepoint” unless your ready to be screwed.

Pound to euro exchange rate finally makes gains - what does this mean for travel money?
Pound to euro exchange rate finally makes gains - what does this mean for travel money? THE POUND to euro exchange rate finally showed signs of improvement yesterday with GBP displaying its first daily gain in three days after plummeting to a six month low at the start of the week. What does this mean for your holiday money? The pound to euro exchange rate increased for the first time in three days on Thursday. Political uncertainty has been attributed to GBP’s poor performance in recent weeks. A dovish set of minutes from the European Central Bank’s latest policy meeting also served to put sterling under pressure. Furthermore, the pound’s gains have been held back this week by Tuesday’s debate between Conservative leadership candidates Boris Johnson and Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt Johnson refused to rule out suspending Parliament for a no-deal Brexit, saying that it would be “absolutely bizarre” to take it off the table. Experts have cautioned that the pound is unlikely to show much further improvement today. The pound is currently trading at €1.113 against the euro, according to Bloomberg at the time of writing. Michael Brown, currency expert at Caxton FX, spoke to Express.co.uk regarding the latest exchange rate figures. “Sterling recorded its first daily gain in three days against the euro on Thursday,” said Brown. “The single currency came under pressure after a dovish set of minutes from the ECB’s latest policy meeting. “The minutes showed policymakers considering restarting the ECB’s QE programme, along with cutting rates, while also stating their ‘determination to act’ to ensure that the 2 per cent inflation target is met. “Today’s data calendar is relatively limited, barring eurozone industrial production figures, though this is not typically a major market mover. “Hence, sterling should remain largely rangebound as markets continue to digest ongoing UK political uncertainties and the prospects of additional ECB stimulus.” It is also likely the pound may struggle following a speech from the Bank of England’s Gertjan Vlieghe. If Dr Vlieghe mentions monetary policy and his tone is overly dovish it could dampen sentiment in sterling. Meanwhile, the euro could rise following the release of the Eurozone’s industrial production data. So what does this mean for British holidaymakers heading abroad this week? The Post Office is currently offering a rate of €1.0868 for over £400 and €1.0918 for over £1000. Holidaymakers are advised to buy their travel money sensibly. Ways to do this include: pre-ordering cash on the internet, shopping around for the best exchange rate, avoiding buying travel money at the airport and using specialist cards with low fees to take money abroad. It’s also worth working out the fees on cash machine withdrawals overseas.

Pound to euro exchange rate: Sterling slips - should you buy holiday money today?
Pound to euro exchange rate: Sterling slips - should you buy holiday money today? THE POUND to euro exchange rate slipped yesterday after GBP hit a one-week high on Wednesday. The drop came as “the Bank of England struck a cautious tone in their latest policy statement,” experts have said. The pound to euro exchange rate fell slightly on Thursday following the Bank of England’s policy statement release. Diminished growth expectations saw GBP drop against the euro despite interest rates staying steady. The ongoing Conservative Party leadership contest which saw Michael Gove ousted yesterday has not appeared to impact the market. Today is unlikely to see the pound shift further while the euro could be affected by PMI surveys, explained experts. The pound is currently trading at €1.124 against the euro, according to Bloomberg at the time of writing. Michael Brown, currency expert at Caxton FX, spoke to Express.co.uk regarding the latest exchange rate figures. “Sterling lost ground against the euro on Thursday, recording its first daily loss in three trading days after the Bank of England struck a cautious tone in their latest policy statement,” said Brown. “Despite interest rates being kept on hold, a downgrade in growth expectations in the second quarter, to 0 per cent, exerted downward pressure on the pound. “Meanwhile, the progression of Boris Johnson and Jeremy Hunt to the final round of the Conservative Party leadership contest was largely expected and had little impact on the market. “Turning to today, with no major releases due from the UK, sterling should hold relatively steady as markets continue to digest the BoE’s policy message and ongoing political uncertainties. “Meanwhile, the near-term direction of the euro will be determined by this morning’s PMI surveys - expected to show solid expansion in the services sector, but a fifth consecutive contraction in manufacturing.” So what does this mean for holidaymakers hoping to buy travel money ahead of a trip? The Post Office is offering a rate of €1.1011 for over £400 and €1.1065 for over £1,000. Travel money comparison website CompareHolidayMoney.com advises going online for the best rates. “Online providers have lower overheads and you can save around £40 per £1000 spent if you buy online compared to the high street,” CompareHolidayMoney.com said. “If you don’t want to wait in for home delivery, you can still take advantage of the online rates by using a ‘click & collect’ service that many providers supply.” They also advise ignoring promises of zero per cent commission. “Most outlets offer this these days — and take their cut in other ways. The rate is far more important,” they said. Lastly, consider picking your holiday destination based on where the currency offers good value. “At the moment, Turkish lira, Croatian Kuna, Bulgarian lev, Romanian leu, Thai baht and Australian dollars are all weak against the pound. That means you pay less to get more holiday money,” said CompareHolidayMoney.com. Travel Supermarket experts have now compiled the top 20 cheapest summer holiday locations for Britons. The list, tailored to families, perhaps surprisingly shows Kotos, Corfu in Greece as top. The average costs of staying there come up at £56.25 per person per night, narrowly pipping Golden Sands in Bulgaria, at £60.29 per person per night, to the top spot. Other locations in the top five include the Costa Brava, in Spain, at £61.30 per person per night, Sidari in Corfu, Greece at £61.94 per person per night and the Neapolitan Riviera, in Italy, at £63.82 per person per night.

Rush to exchange money in Abu Dhabi after British Pound falls - Daily Mail
Greedy currency firms are cashing in on uncertainty following the Brexit vote and are exploiting holidaymakers by offering less than a euro per pound, a Daily Mail investigation has found. Last night furious MPs criticised 'rip-off merchants' for taking advantage of the public's lack of financial knowledge to offer rock-bottom exchange rates. Following the EU vote, sterling fell 10 per cent against the euro – and to a 31-year low against the dollar. On the night of the referendum – June 23 – £1 was worth 1.31 euros or $1.50.After the result, rates tumbled to 1.22 euros and $1.34 per pound. And the market rate for sterling has since fallen to around 1.173 euros (shown on the map, top) and $1.30. Moneycorp last night said it had not increased its margins and rates differ between online and airports. Travelex (bottom) said its rates took into consideration 'volatility in the market'. Get a travel-friendly credit card that won’t charge usage fees, such as the Halifax Credit Card https://www.halifax.co.uk/creditcards/clarity-card/ or the Barclaycard Platinum Card https://www.barclaycard.co.uk/…/cred…/platinum-cashback-plus or if you don’t have the credit rating (or desire even to live on credit) switch your bank to smart phone-based Monzo who don’t charge usage fees anywhere in the world https://monzo.com/features/travel/ NB: Watch out for ATM fees though. Monzo will let you withdraw £200 every 30 days with no fee, but after that there’s a 3 per cent charge. ATM fees are free with Barclaycard until 2023 and Halifax won’t charge ATM fees unless the ATM provider does, in which case they’ll pass those costs onto you. Boring but important: always remember to pay your credit card off each month. Revolut is another good bank account, it does charge usage fees abroad, but they are low (0.5 per cent) and their ATM fees only kick in after the first £200 like Monzo https://www.revolut.com/ If you don’t want to switch your bank account or get a credit card, go for a pre-loaded travel money card. I like these as they help you budget during your time away and don’t encourage you to get into debt. The Post Office Travel Money card is good, it lets you pre-load 13 different currencies including euros and it’s easily manageable through an app which lets you top up from your main bank account whenever your travel money card is running low. I also like that you can buy it from your local post office, rather than waiting a couple of weeks for it to arrive as is the case with most other cards https://www.postoffice.co.uk/travel-money/card it will charge you to withdraw from an ATM though so it’s worth taking some cash out before you go. Caxton is another good travel money card https://www.caxtonfx.com/ & Virgin has one, which charges 1.50 euros per ATM transaction, https://uk.virginmoney.com/virgin/travel-prepaid-card/ For peer to peer stuff, such as paying for your accommodation privately, or your ski guide or instructor that you found online, or maybe an airport transfer from someone you found on a Facebook group, don’t use Paypal as the fees are high, instead Transferwise is a great shout and super easy to use https://transferwise.com/. Paypal is good for money pools though, so for example if you paid for the guide and you want all your friends to pay you back quickly and easily, you can just paste the link into whatsapp https://www.paypal.com/uk/webapps/mpp/money-pools Other money tips: when the card machine asks if you want to pay in pounds or euros, say euros, as otherwise the retailer can choose the rate which can be worse for you, especially if you have a travel money card. If you want to keep your phone roaming charges down, download your route on google maps for offline use before you travel. And get your travel insurance as soon as you’ve booked your trip or have annual travel insurance. Then if you fall down the stairs or have some other legit reason that you can’t travel you’re covered for your flight costs. Make sure you get winter sports-specific insurance too, you can compare the prices here: https://www.moneysupermarket.com/travel-insurance/enquiry/ Before you go away, always check your exclusion terms, as some policies won’t cover you for if you’re drunk, or for snow kit theft, or if you’re not wearing a helmet, or if you’re laptop/ipad or other valuables aren’t locked up in your hotel room.

How the rich get richer – money in the world economy | DW Documentary
Exploding real estate prices, zero interest rate and a rising stock market – the rich are getting richer. What danger lies in wait for average citizens? For years, the world’s central banks have been pursuing a policy of cheap money. The first and foremost is the ECB (European Central Bank), which buys bad stocks and bonds to save banks, tries to fuel economic growth and props up states that are in debt. But what relieves state budgets to the tune of hundreds of billions annoys savers: interest rates are close to zero. The fiscal policies of the central banks are causing an uncontrolled global deluge of money. Experts are warning of new bubbles. In real estate, for example: it’s not just in German cities that prices are shooting up. In London, a one-bed apartment can easily cost more than a million Euro. More and more money is moving away from the real economy and into the speculative field. Highly complex financial bets are taking place in the global casino - gambling without checks and balances. The winners are set from the start: in Germany and around the world, the rich just get richer. Professor Max Otte says: "This flood of money has caused a dangerous redistribution. Those who have, get more." But with low interest rates, any money in savings accounts just melts away. Those with debts can be happy. But big companies that want to swallow up others are also happy: they can borrow cheap money for their acquisitions. Coupled with the liberalization of the financial markets, money deals have become detached from the real economy. But it’s not just the banks that need a constant source of new, cheap money today. So do states. They need it to keep a grip on their mountains of debt. It’s a kind of snowball system. What happens to our money? Is a new crisis looming? The film 'The Money Deluge' casts a new and surprising light on our money in these times of zero interest rates. _______ Exciting, powerful and informative – DW Documentary is always close to current affairs and international events. How To Manage Your Money Like The 1%
Here’s how you can manage your money like the 1%, and how you can follow this simple formula to Financial Independence - Enjoy! Add me on Instagram: GPStephan GET $50 OFF FOR A LIMITED TIME WITH COUPON CODE: THANKYOU50 The Real Estate Agent Academy: Learn how to start and grow your career as a Real Estate Agent to a Six-Figure Income, how to best build your network of clients, expand into luxury markets, and the exact steps I’ve used to grow my business from $0 to over $125 million in sales: https://goo.gl/UFpi4c GET THE MERCH: http://www.GrahamStephanStore.com/ Step one: Having a budget by tracking your expenses and reducing unnecessary spending. If you just do this single step, you’ll be ahead of 99%. From doing this, you can determine if you’re spending money on things that don’t matter, if you’re making impulse purchases, or if you’re just otherwise wasting money without even realizing it. When you do this, you will find a way to reduce spending without missing anything…you can likely save about 10% of your income just by tracking your expenses, and then reducing spending on the things you don’t even realize. Step Two: Creating a Rainy Day Fund. Every single wealthy person I know has a rainy day fund of AT LEAST 3-6 months worth of expenses. This means that you already know, from tracking your expenses, how much you need to spend every month to live…now save up 3-6 times that amount, in cash. You do not spend this money, EVER, unless you absolutely need to. Step Three: Take advantage of employer sponsored retirement plan matching. This means that if your employer offers a 401k match…ALWAYS TAKE IT. THIS IS FREE, GUARANTEED MONEY. There is no other investment in the history of the world that will give you a risk free, guaranteed 100% return on your money like an employer match. And if you’re self employed, you can make your own employer contributions with a SEP 401K…google that, because that’s a great way to reduce your taxes. Step Four: Pay off high interest rate debt. This means that if you have any outstanding debt over a 5% interest rate, begin PAYING THIS OFF NOW after you have your rainy day fund, and after you’ve got your free employer match. When it comes to paying off debt, there are two strategies to go about this: The first is called the avalanche method, and mathematically, this should leave you with the most money left over as possible. This means you should start paying off the highest interest rate debt you have first, and then once that’s paid off, you to go the next highest interest rate…until it’s all paid off. The second method is the Dave Ramsey approach, and that’s called the snowball method. This means you pay off the smallest balance, first, regardless of interest rates, and then move up to the next largest balance…and the next largest, until you leave the biggest balance for last. The downside, of course, is that you likely end up paying more money in interest and that costs you more in the long run - but if doing this means you pay off debt, I’m all for it. As long as long as you pay off high interest debt. Step Five: Invest in yourself. This could be buying books, this could be learning a new skill, this could be investing back into your business…self education, in my opinion, is absolutely vital at this stage. If you’re in a position RIGHT NOW where you’ve already done as much as you can, and you don’t have any money left over after doing all of this..then there’s no way around it, you’ve gotta work to increase your income. Step Six: Invest in a Roth IRA. This is an account that allows you to invest your after-tax money, and when you’re 60, all the profit you make in that account is completely TAX FREE…this means that you can get decades of investment growth and compound interest working on your side that you don’t have to pay tax on. And when it comes to growing your wealth, having this available to you is absolutely priceless…watch this: https://youtu.be/z-53ZTJmDUA Step Seven: Invest in Taxable Accounts / Anything Else. This means that you have your brokerage account where you just trade stocks in, maybe you buy some real estate, maybe you spend some money starting a business…from this point on, it’s really about just doing what you can to increase your income even further and build up your net worth. The hardest part about doing all of this, and managing your money like the 1%, is just starting. And it all starts right here, at step number one. Top 10 Ways to Beat a Car Dealer | Auto Expert John Cadogan | Australia
Here are the updated top 10 tips for beating a car dealer and buying a cheap new car without getting ripped off. It's how you can fight back, and organise a much better deal on basically any new car. Buying a car is not fun. Everyone on the other team is match fit, and systematically incentivised to rip you off - if you let them. But it doesn't have to be this way. Here's how to recognise the car dealer's tricks and sidestep the traps. Let's focus on the car you want. It might not look like a commodity, but that's exactly what it is. There's no qualitative difference between the car you want at Dealership A and the same car at Dealership B. They came out of the same factory. Their mothers can't tell them apart. The dealership doesn't change them in any way, or add intrinsic value. The dealership is actually just a fancy vending machine. When you're buying a commodity, the only factor that matters is the price. Lowest price wins. That's what you need to deliver. For more advice, fill in the contact form on the right at www.autoexpert.com.au - I'll help you see just how low the price on your new car really goes. I'll also show you how to put your trade-in out to tender and arrive at the highest possible price, if you lack the time or the inclination to sell your old car privately. Buying a car is not an uplifting experience. It should be, but it's not. It's challenging, stressful and generally fairly unpleasant. But it doesn't have to be a rip-off. You absolutely can drive away in a cheap new car without being absolutely violated by a car dealer. Especially now.

5 Secrets of Duty Free Employees Won't Tell You
Most of us see Duty-Free shops as an opportunity to save money and get lower prices on expensive brands. In a lot of cases their airport location allows businesses to avoid paying customs duty, or tax, on their goods. But believe it or not, duty-free prices aren't always lower than normal retail stores. We’re going to reveal 5 secrets of duty-free that employees will never tell you. In general, brands such as Hermes, Chanel, and Dior have a policy of keeping more or less equal prices on their products in all their shops around the world. So you can often get a much better deal if you buy an item on sale at a local store. Most duty-free shops have websites with prices listed, so you can compare them with other duty-free locations as well as with regular stores. The only exception when the price is almost always lower in duty-free shops is with alcohol and tobacco. You probably thought that the items on duty-free shelves are super rare or unique and produced especially for these stores. But, in fact, the things you can find there are no different from the ones you see in a regular store. Remember your budget and keep a cool head, especially if your country makes you pay tax on items you bought duty-free while traveling abroad to avoid paying crazy taxes for them back home. Keep in mind that finding the best deal depends on two factors: location and exchange rate. If you wanna buy chocolates, alcohol, or tobacco in Southern Asia, for example, better do this in city stores and outlets. It’ll be way cheaper than getting these products at the airport. Music: Church of 8 Wheels https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music TIMESTAMPS Duty-free prices aren't always lower than normal retail stores. 0:34 Goods are sometimes delivered to duty-free shops from regular stores. 2:40 The sales assistants aren't always specialists. 3:09 You might have to pay a hefty customs tariff once you get back home. 3:29 If you’re smart about it, you can save a ton of money. 4:18 Bonus: some tips for successful duty-free shopping 6:20 SUMMARY -The cost of renting retail space at an airport is so high that it often cancels out the money saved on taxes. Because of this, duty-free prices can sometimes actually be higher than in ordinary shops. -Duty-free goods are often delivered straight from a local store. -A lot of Duty Free sales assistants are simply locals who just go to a normal job the same as you or me, and not super knowledgeable experts. -Americans coming back home have to pay a 3% tax on duty-free purchases exceeding $800. -It's better to buy electronics in Asia, cosmetics are generally cheaper in Europe and the Caribbean. New Zealand is famous for its duty-free wine bargains thanks to abundant local production and a relatively cheap dollar. Duty-free shops in Dubai offer amazing prices on gold. -You can check the price online and find any sales going on in stores to decide if it makes sense to buy something duty-free. Remember that many duty-free shops can deliver your purchases to the plane so that you don't have to lug them around while waiting for your flight. Do not forget about customs limits!
