DNS Split Brain

12:09
Split-Brain DNS is when the same DNS name is used for internal and external clients. This video looks at the problems associated with Split-Brain and how it may be configured to get around these problems. The choice of Split-Brain or the alterative whole brain approach is up to the individual administrator to decide which approach is best for the network that they support. Download Handout http://itfreetraining.com/handouts/dns/dnssplitbrain.pdf Network Example If you use the same DNS name for the internal network and the external network, the simplest way to implement this would be to use the same zone data on the internal and external network. The problem with this approach is twofold. Firstly this means that the internal DNS records are now exposed to the internet and a hacker may get this information. Using this information, the hacker can foot print the network and gain a good understanding of how many clients and what types of services you have on the network. The second problem is that internal clients may use different IP addresses to access resources than external clients. For example, the company web site may have an external IP Address but the routing on the network does not correctly route internal clients to the web page. In order for this to occur, the internal clients must use an internal IP Address. The DNS server will not know which IP Address to respond with. Whole Brain DNS The whole brain approach is when different domain names are used for the internal and external network. A common approach is to use .local for internal networks and .com for external networks. Using this approach it is quite easy to understand and set up for the administrator. It does however make it a little more complex for the user and thus you are making a trade off from a simple network to look after to one that is more complicated for the end user to use. Using the whole brain approach means that if a hacker were to gain access to the DNS records in the .com namespace, these DNS records are publicity available anyway so this is not really a security concern. The .local records are used on the internal network and thus a lot harder for a hacker to gain access to these. If the internal DNS server cannot resolve a DNS request, for example it is asked for the IP Address of google.com, this DNS request can be forwarded to the other DNS server which can resolve it. This adds additional security to the network meaning that the internal DNS server does not have to communicate directly with the internet. Split-Brain DNS The best way to implement split-brain is to have two different zone files for the same DNS name. The internal DNS server would hold its own set of DNS records while the external DNS server would hold a different set. This means that if an attacker was to gain access to the external DNS server, they would only be able to gain access to DNS records that are publicity available. Problem with Split-Brain The problem with Split Brain is that depending on how a user accesses the network will determine which resources they will be directed to. The most common example is when the user connects via a VPN connection. When connected via a VPN connect the user will be accessing the network just like they were in the office. If you have resources with the same name, like web server or mail servers, the user may be directed to the wrong service. This can become more complicated when you have companies with different offices and divisions around the world. Making sure the user is directed correctly can become quite difficult. When a user connects using a service like DirectAccess, DirectAccess has the ability to configure rules which will direct the user to resources based on their connection. Although this is possible, it does make it more difficult for the administrator as the rules need to be configured. Migration Roles In Windows Server 2012 R2

13:59
Windows Server comes with a number of migration tools that allow you to move roles from one server to another. Check out http://itfreetraining.com for more of our always free training videos. This video will look at what is involved and perform a demonstration of how to move DHCP from one Windows Server to another Windows Server. Download the PDF handout http://ITFreeTraining.com/handouts/server/migration.pdf Migration Migration is the process of moving settings and data between different systems. When you perform an upgrade, you are not able to choose which parts of the server you want to use on the new operating system. You must upgrade the whole server which includes any software on the server. It is not uncommon for problems to start occurring in Windows systems. Often reinstalling the operating system will fix these problems giving the administrator a fresh start. There are also a number of results that migrations can achieve that are not possible with upgrades, these include. 1. Upgrade only the one feature or split roles between different servers. 2. Allow migrations between architecture where an upgrade is not possible. For example, between 32bit and 64bit. 3. Upgrades also can be used in cases where a down grade would need to be performed. Microsoft does not support downgrades so the only choice that you have would be to perform a migration. Demonstration In the demonstration, DHCP will be migrated for a server running Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2012 R2, however the procedures are much the same regardless of which operating systems you are using. Some migrations work differently than others, so it a good idea to see if Microsoft has published a guide on the steps required. For more details on Migrations see http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj134039.aspx 1. First of all, the feature "Windows Server Migration Tools" needs to be installed. This should be installed on the server that you are planning to migrate to. This can be done by running Server Manager and from the add role wizard select "Windows Server Migration Tools" from the select features screen. 2. From Server Manager, select the tools menu and then select the option "Windows Server Migration Tools" and the option under this "Windows Server Migration Tools". The option appears twice as it is possible to install additional tools under Windows Server Migration Tools. 3. Windows Powershell will open. The only difference between this and a normal PowerShell Window is that the command "Add-PSSnapin Microsoft.Windows.ServerManager.Migration" will be run automatically. 4. Change to the directory c:\Windows\System32\ServerMigrationTools using the command "cd .\ServerMigrationTools". 5. The software for the migration needs to install on the other Server that you are performing the migration on. To do this, run the command "./SmigDeploy.exe /Package /Architecture x86 /OS WS03" In this case 32bit has been used but AMD64 could be used. For OS WS03 has been used for Windows Server 2003. Other valid options are WS08 (Windows Server 2008), WS08R2 (Windows Server 2008 R2) and WS12 (Windows Server 2012). 6. Once the previous command has run and created the install files, this can be copied to a USB key. Description to long for YouTube. DNS Records

11:33
In order to find resources on the network, computers need a system to look up the location of resources. Check out http://YouTube.com/ITFreeTraining or http://itfreetraining.com for more of our always free training videos. This video looks at the DNS records that contain information about resources and services on the network. The client can request these records from a DNS server in order to locate resources like web sites, Active Directory Domains and Mail Servers just to name a few. http://ITFreeTraining.com/handouts/dn... In this video This video will look at the following DNS records: Host (A and AAAA): Contains IP Addresses for IPv4 and IPv6 hosts Alias (CNAME): Works just like a shortcut for files except for DNS records. Mail Exchange (MX): Holds the address of mail servers for that domain. Service Record (SRV): Holds the address of services on the network. E.g. Active Directory DC's. Start of Authority (SOA): Contains information and configuration for a zone file. Name Server (NS): Contain the address of other DNS servers for that zone. Pointer (PTR): Reverse look up record allowing a hostname for an IP Address to be look up. Host (A and AAAA) The host record is used to store the address of a hostname. "A" is used for IPv4 and AAAA (Quad A) for IPv6. These can be created manually in DNS or if dynamic DNS is enabled and the client can register its hostname and thus its IP Address with the DNS server. Alias (CName) A canonical name or CName record provides an alias service in DNS. A CName effectively points to another A or Quad A record. When the client requests the hostname that is contained in the CName, they are given the IP Address that is contained in the A record or Quad A record. The advantage of a CName is that it can provide a simple name to the user rather than a more complex server name. For example, instead of having to remember FS27 for the local file server, a CName of FS could be used to point towards the server FS27. CName's can also be used to transparently redirect network traffic. For example, if you changed you mind and wanted to redirect the user to FS28 you would only need to change the CName record to point to FS28 rather than FS27. It should be remembered that the old record may exist in the client cache and may take some time to expire. Mail Exchange (MX) The mail exchange record contains a mail server that is able to process mail for that domain name. When a mail server wants to deliver mail, it will perform a DNS lookup asking the DNS server for an MX record for that DNS Domain name. The mail server will then attempt to deliver mail to that server. The mail server does not need to have the same DNS name as the mail that is being delivered, it simply needs to understand how to process mail for that DNS domain name. The MX record also has priority value that can be configured. If two or more MX Exchange records exist for the same DNS Doman name, the MX record with the lowest priority will be tried first. If this fails, the MX record with the next lowest value will be tried until the mail is delivered. Often large companies will have multiple mail severs for incoming mail. In some cases, these additional mail servers may be located on different sides of the globe in case there is a long network outage. Service Record (SRV) Service records allow clients on the network to find resources on the network. Active Directory creates a number of service records in DNS to allow clients to find resources like Domain Controllers. This is why Active Directory cannot operate without DNS. A single service record has a number of data fields associated with it. These include, service, target, port and priority. Service records are normally created automatically by applications assuming that your DNS server allows dynamic updates. Start of Authority (SOA) There is one start of authority record (SOA) for each zone. Even though the SOA is technically a DNS record, essentially modification of the SOA record is performed through the properties of the DNS zone. Looking at the data in the SOA record, you can configure options for the zone like the primary name server for that zone (DNS servers that hold the master records for the zone), the e-mail address of an administrator, serial number (Incremented each time a change is made in the DNS zone) and the refresh time for the zone (How often a secondary zone should query a master for changes). Inside Bombay Stock Exchange - BSE

01:02
BSE Bombay Stock Exchange, Dalal Street, Bombay. This is where ALL the action takes place in Mumbai! Even after the city's name was changed to Mumbai, they have gladly not changed it to the MBE. Imagine calling it the Mumbai Stock Exchange. It just doesn't sound right! As per Wikipedia: The Bombay Stock Exchange is the oldest exchange in Asia. It traces its history to the 1850s, when four Gujarati and one Parsi stockbroker would gather under banyan trees in front of Mumbai's Town Hall. The location of these meetings changed many times, as the number of brokers constantly increased. The group eventually moved to Dalal Street in 1874 and in 1875 became an official organization known as 'The Native Share & Stock Brokers Association'. In 1956, the BSE became the first stock exchange to be recognized by the Indian Government under the Securities Contracts Regulation Act. The Bombay Stock Exchange developed the BSE SENSEX in 1986, giving the BSE a means to measure overall performance of the exchange. In 2000 the BSE used this index to open its derivatives market, trading SENSEX futures contracts. The development of SENSEX options along with equity derivatives followed in 2001 and 2002, expanding the BSE's trading platform. Historically an open outcry floor trading exchange, the Bombay Stock Exchange switched to an electronic trading system in 1995. It took the exchange only fifty days to make this transition. This automated, screen-based trading platform called BSE On-line trading (BOLT) currently has a capacity of 8 million orders per day. The BSE has also introduced the world's first centralized exchange-based internet trading system, BSEWEBx.co.in to enable investors anywhere in the world to trade on the BSE platform. The BSE is currently housed in Phiroze Jeejeebhoy Towers at Dalal Street, Fort area. Leela Zero is a free and open-source computer Go software released on 25 October 2017. It is developed by Belgian programmer Gian-Carlo Pascutto,[1][2][3] the author of chess engine Sjeng and Go engine Leela.[4][5] Leela Zero's algorithm is based on DeepMind's 2017 paper about AlphaGo Zero.[3][6] Unlike the original Leela, which has a lot of human knowledge and heuristics programmed into it, Leela Zero only knows the basic rules and nothing more.[7] Leela Zero is trained by a distributed effort, which is coordinated at the Leela Zero website. Members of the community provide computing resources by running the client, which generates self-play games and submits them to the server. The self-play games are used to train newer networks. Generally, over 500 clients have connected to the server to contribute resources.[7] The community has provided high quality code contributions as well.[7] Leela Zero finished third at the BerryGenomics Cup World AI Go Tournament in Fuzhou, Fujian, China on 28 April 2018.[8] Additionally, in early 2018 the same team branched Leela Chess Zero from the same code base, also to verify the methods in the AlphaZero paper as applied to the game of chess. AlphaZero's use of Google TPUs was replaced by a crowd-sourcing infrastructure and the ability to use graphics card GPUs via the OpenCL library. Even so, it is expected to take a year of crowd-sourced training to make up for the dozen hours that AlphaZero was allowed to train for its chess match in the paper.[9] Info about Alphazero: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AlphaZero AlphaZero is a computer program developed by the Alphabet-owned AI research company DeepMind, which uses an approach similar to AlphaGo Zero's to master not just Go, but also chess and shogi. On December 5, 2017 the DeepMind team released a preprint introducing AlphaZero, which, within 24 hours, achieved a superhuman level of play in these three games by defeating world-champion programs, Stockfish, elmo, and the 3-day version of AlphaGo Zero, in each case making use of custom tensor processing units (TPUs) that the Google programs were optimized to make use of.[1] AlphaZero was trained solely via "self-play" using 5,000 first-generation TPUs to generate the games and 64 second-generation TPUs to train the neural networks, all in parallel, with no access to opening books or endgame tables. After just four hours of training, DeepMind estimated AlphaZero was playing at a higher Elo rating than Stockfish; after 9 hours of training, the algorithm decisively defeated Stockfish 8 in a time-controlled 100-game tournament (28 wins, 0 losses, and 72 draws).[1][2][3] The trained algorithm played on a single machine with four TPUs. ... Relation to AlphaGo Zero Further information: AlphaGo Zero AlphaZero (AZ) is a more generalized variant of the AlphaGo Zero (AGZ) algorithm, and is able to play shogi and chess as well as Go. Differences between AZ and AGZ include:[1] AZ has hard-coded rules for setting search hyperparameters. The neural network is now updated continually. Go (unlike Chess) is symmetric under certain reflections and rotations; AlphaGo Zero was programmed to take advantage of these symmetries. AlphaZero is not. Chess can end in a draw unlike Go; therefore AlphaZero can take into account the possibility of a drawn game. What is DYNAMIC DATA EXCHANGE? What does DYNAMIC DATA EXCHANGE mean?

What is DYNAMIC DATA EXCHANGE? What does DYNAMIC DATA EXCHANGE mean? DYNAMIC DATA EXCHANGE meaning - DYNAMIC DATA EXCHANGE definition - DYNAMIC DATA EXCHANGE explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. SUBSCRIBE to our Google Earth flights channel - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6UuCPh7GrXznZi0Hz2YQnQ In computing, Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) is a method of interprocess communication under Microsoft Windows or OS/2. It allows one program to subscribe to items made available by another program, for example a cell in a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet, and be notified whenever that item changes. DDE was partially superseded by Object Linking and Embedding (OLE), but remains used for simple interprocess communication tasks. Dynamic Data Exchange was first introduced in 1987 with the release of Windows 2.0 as a method of interprocess communication so that one program could communicate with or control another program, somewhat like Sun's RPC (Remote Procedure Call). It used the "Windows Messaging Layer" functionality within Windows. DDE continues to work even in modern versions of Windows, but has been superseded by newer technologies. Windows for Workgroups introduced a remoting version called NetDDE. OLE and OLE Automation are more advanced than DDE, but have proven to be bulky and difficult to code. OLE is far more sophisticated and capable than DDE because it is built on top of Microsoft's Component Object Model, but also suffers from COM's problems of a higher performance penalty and a much steeper learning curve. COM that works between networked machines is known as DCOM (Distributed COM). .NET Remoting provides a layered architecture for interprocess communication in the .NET Framework. However, legacy DDE is still used in several places inside Windows, e.g. for Shell file associations and for the copy, cut and paste functions. The primary function of DDE is to allow Windows applications to share data. For example, a cell in Microsoft Excel could be linked to a value in another application and when the value changed, it would be automatically updated in the Excel spreadsheet. The data communication was established by a simple, three-segment model. Each program was known to DDE by its "application" name. Each application could further organize information by groups known as "topic" and each topic could serve up individual pieces of data as an "item". For example, if a user wanted to pull a value from Microsoft Excel which was contained in a spreadsheet called "Book1.xls" in the cell in the first row and first column, the application would be "Excel", the topic "Book1.xls" and the item "r1c1". A common use of DDE is for custom-developed applications to control off-the-shelf software. For example, a custom in-house application might use DDE to open a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet and fill it with data, by opening a DDE conversation with Excel and sending it DDE commands. Today, however, one could also use the Excel object model with OLE Automation (part of COM). The technique is, however, still in use, particularly for distribution of financial data. DDE has also been widely used in the SAS programming language for manipulating Excel and transferring data between SAS and Excel and can be used to format Excel workbooks from within a SAS program. Wonderware developed an extension for DDE called NetDDE that could be used to initiate and maintain the network connections needed for DDE conversations between DDE-aware applications running on different computers in a network and transparently exchange data. A DDE conversation is an interaction between client and server applications. NetDDE could be used along with DDE and the DDE management library (DDEML) in applications. Microsoft licensed a basic (NetBIOS Frames protocol only) version of the product for inclusion in various versions of Windows from Windows for Workgroups to Windows XP. In addition, Wonderware also sold an enhanced version of NetDDE to their own customers that included support for TCP/IP. The technology is extensively used in the SCADA field. Basic Windows applications using NetDDE are Clipbook Viewer, WinChat and Microsoft Hearts. NetDDE was still included with Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP Service Pack 2, although it was disabled by default. It has been removed entirely in Windows Vista. However, this will not prevent existing versions of NetDDE from being installed and functioning on later versions of Windows.

Introduction to Telephone Systems

Follow Eli on the Vlog Channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/EliComputerGuyLive Info Level: Beginner Presenter: Eli the Computer Guy Date Created: August 2, 2010 Length of Class: 54 Minutes Tracks Telephone Systems Prerequisites None Purpose of Class This class introduces students to the basic components of telephone systems. Topics Covered Public Switched Telephone Network Central Offices Trunk Lines PBX and Voicemail Systems PBX Stations Voicemail Subcribers Class Notes Introduction Telephone systems are not complicated if you understand how they work. A Word on VoIP VoIP is not a telephone system PSTN PSTN -- Public Switched Telephone Network is like the Internet, but for telephone communication NADP -- North American Dialing Plan -- Is the system for routing telephone calls. Central Office -- All telephone lines connect to a local central office Trunk Lines Every Trunk Line has a telephone number A Trunk Line allows for 1 incoming or outgoing call. You can have far more telephones in a building then you have trunk lines. Incoming Trunk lines are setup in Hunt Groups. If the main phone number is busy the call is automatically forwarded to the next number in the Hunt Group Incoming Hunt Groups are setup by your local telephone company. Outgoing calls can be routed to use selected trunk lines. This in configured in your PBX. PBX and Voicemail The PBX routes telephone calls The Voicemail system provides all audio messaging. (Voicemail boxes, Message Boards, and Auto Attendant Messages) Stations All devices that connect to the PBX are "Stations". This includes telephones, call boxes, intercom systems, etc. There are 2 types of stations; Analogue and Digital. Analogue and Digital stations have to be connected to appropriate ports on the PBX. An analogue phone cannot connect to a digital port and vice versa. Almost all fax machines and phones you buy at retail stores are analogue. If your new fax machine does not work it may be because it's plugged into a digital line. Subscribers Subscribers are users of the Voicemail system. Subscribers do not have to have stations Voicemail ports are the number of connections to the Voicemail system at any one time. This includes not just people retrieving their voicemail, but also incoming calls that connect to Auto Attendant messages. Final Thoughts Be careful before you touch! Most older telephone and voicemail systems were administered using a phone keypad, NOT and computer interface. If you mess something up it can be very difficult to rebuild a deleted Auto Attendant or such. Resources North American Numbering Plan PSTN -- Wikipedia

MCITP 70-640: Service Accounts

14:12
A service account is a user account that is created to isolate a service or application. Check out http://itfreetraining.com for more of our always free training videos. This video looks at how to create and use service accounts in your organization. What is a service account A service account is user account that has been created to run a particular piece of software or service. Principle of least privilege The principle of least privilege is giving the user only the minimum required amount of access. For example, if a user only requires access to certain files than they should only have access to those files. If the user only requires access to certain servers or workstations, they should only have access to those. The advantage of this is that it minimizes the amount of damage that can be done if the user account was to become comprised. When used with service accounts, one service account should be created for each service or application. If the same service account is shared between services and applications, and this service account was to stop working (for example the account became locked) all software using this service account would be effected. Using the same user account for multiple services Some administrators will choose to run multiple services and applications using the same user account. To ensure that there are no problems running their software, some administrators will use a user account that has Domain Administrator access. If you use the same user account for multiple pieces of software, and the user account was to fail for any reason, all the software using that service account would also be affected. Also if the account was to become compromised, this service account could be used to access resources on the network. The more access the service account has the more potential damage that it could do. The service account could prevent applications and services using it from running by simply changing the password of the account. Service Account Lockout When the password for a service account is changed, the password must be updated in all locations that use the service account. A user account can become locked after to many wrong password attempts. When the service account is used in multiple locations and the password is not updated in all locations, the old password will still be used. After Windows Server 2003 with Service Pack 1, Active Directory will check the last two passwords used. If there is a match, the service account will not be locked. Service account expires It should be noted that if a service account password was to expire, this will prevent the user account from being able to be used until the password for the user account has been changed. Demonstration The following procedure can be used to create a service account. Run Active Directory Users and Computers. Right click the OU where you want the user to be created. When prompted, ensure user must change password at next logon is not ticked. This will prevent the service account from being used until the password has been changed. To prevent the password for the service account from expiring, tick the tick box password never expires. To maintain high security, when ticking this option, the password for the user account should be changed at regular interval. For additional security for your service account, you can create a domain group and place the service account in that group. Once service account has been added to this group, you can remove all other group membership. This will ensure the service account does not have any permissions, not even Domain User permissions unless they are allocated to the service account. To give the service account access to a particular service, type lusrmgr.msc in the start menu to edit the local users and groups. Add the service account to the local groups as required. To the change the password that is being used for a service account, open services from the start menu. Open the properties for the service you want to change the password for and change the password on the log on tab. Exchange Web Services What you didn't know

03:23
In Exchange 2007 we introduced Exchange Web Services (EWS) and in the next version of Exchange (codenamed Exchange 14) we've continued to invest in making EWS even easier to use, with a managed client API, and you can use standard development tools to use EWS to access and managed the email, calendar, contacts and other content in mailboxes. EWS is a very useful API for building apps against Exchange, and is even being adopted by competitors for products such as Apple's new mail client. To illustrate the openness take a look at the EWS-based Vista Gadget and same widget for Mac OS X - a good illustration of cross platform use of the same API. http://channel9.msdn.com/pdc2008/BB46/ (Exchange Web Services Managed API: Unified Communications Development for Exchange - PDC 2008 session on the new Managed API)

AlphaZero vs. Stockfish and elmo ... ►If you like my chess videos please consider become a full member here at my Chessworld Site. http://www.chessworld.net/chessclubs/asplogin.asp?from=1053 #KCChess #LeelaChess #LeelaZero #NeuralNetwork #AI #chess #chessgame #chesstactics

Coding With Python :: Learn API Basics to Grab Data with Python This is a basic introduction to using APIs. APIs are the "glue" that keep a lot of web applications running and thriving. Without APIs much of the internet services you love might not even exist! APIs are easy way to connect with other websites & web services to use their data to make your site or application even better. This simple tutorial gives you the basics of how you can access this data and use it. If you want to know if a website has an api, just search "Facebook API" or "Twitter API" or "Foursquare API" on google. Some APIs are easy to use (like Locu's API which we use in this video) some are more complicated (Facebook's API is more complicated than Locu's). More about APIs: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Api Code from the video: http://pastebin.com/tFeFvbXp If you want to learn more about using APIs with Django, learn at http://CodingForEntrepreneurs.com for just $25/month. We apply what we learn here into a Django web application in the GeoLocator project. The Try Django Tutorial Series is designed to help you get used to using Django in building a basic landing page (also known as splash page or MVP landing page) so you can collect data from potential users. Collecting this data will prove as verification (or validation) that your project is worth building. Furthermore, we also show you how to implement a Paypal Button so you can also accept payments. Django is awesome and very simple to get started. Step-by-step tutorials are to help you understand the workflow, get you started doing something real, then it is our goal to have you asking questions... "Why did I do X?" or "How would I do Y?" These are questions you wouldn't know to ask otherwise. Questions, after all, lead to answers. Claims explained

09:55
This video from ITFreeTraining will look at claims that are used with Federation Services. Check out http://itfreetraining.com for more of our always free training videos. By the end of the video you will understand what are claims and what protocols are used with claims. Download the PDF handout http://ITFreeTraining.com/handouts/federation/claims.pdf Claims A claim essentially is a statement made by one party about another party. This is provided by an Identity Provider. Services like Facebook are able to create a claim about a user which holds some information about the user. For example, the user can then use their Facebook login to access other sites. Let's consider an example of a shopping center that allows free parking for those people that have travelled a long distance to shop there. In order to get their free parking, all they need to do is show their driver's license which has their address on it. The identity provider in this case would be the institution that issues driver's licenses. The user would be the person wanting free parking. The service would be the shopping center who has made the decision to allow free parking for people outside the area. Security Token Claims are generally packaged inside a security token. This allows the details of the claim to be checked to ensure they have not been changed. When working with Federation Services you may hear the term security token and claim used interchangeable. Essentially they are referring to the claim which may be packaged in a security token. Fictional Example In this example, a person is given a voucher to a cinema in order to obtain a movie ticket. The movie ticket can then be used to enter a cinema to see a movie. Federation Services often work in a simple way. Token Example In some cases you will hear wording to the effect that a server consumes claims. When Federation Services are setup like this, the following generally happens. The Federation Server will issue a claim to the user. The user will then give this claim to another Federation Server. Once this Federation Server is able to verify that claim is valid, the Federation Server will destroy the claim and create a new claim. The new claim is free to change the information in the old claim and add to it. For example, it may add which servers the user is allowed to access. This kind of information is subject to change and thus the original server creating this claim does not know this information when the first claim is created. Protocols There are a lot of different protocols that make Federation Services work. Federation Services is also very customizable so even though there are some key protocols to make the system work, depending on how it is configured will determine which protocols will be used. For example, there are a number of different protocols that can be used to create a security token. WS-Trust In order for Federation Services to exchange information between different Federation Services there needs to be a common protocol between the systems. The WS-Trust protocol is designed to allow the Federation Services to communicate with each other and exchange information like security tokens. There are a number of different versions of the protocol so it is a matter of making sure that both sides are using the same protocol. SAML (Security Assertion Markup Language) SAML is one of the protocols that can be used to create security tokens. It is an open standard for authentication but can be used to create tokens. Once the token is created, it is transported to the other server using WS-Trust. It is possible to use other protocols however this one is the most common. What the server will accept and not accept is referred to as an endpoint. Description to long for YouTube.
