Managing User settings with windows server 2016 Group Policy - 20742B M6

57:20
Exam: MCSA 2016 70-742 Objective The objectives of this lab are to learn how to: Use administrative templates to manage user settings Implement settings by using Group Policy preferences Configure Folder Redirection Scenario A. Datum Corporation has implemented Microsoft Office 2016, and you want to use Group Policy to configure settings for some Office 2016 apps. The IT department uses logon scripts to provide users with drive mapping to shared folders. However, maintaining these scripts is an ongoing problem, because they are large and complex. Your manager has asked that you implement drive mapping by using Group Policy preferences to remove logon scripts. Your manager also has asked that you place a desktop shortcut to the Notepad app for all users who belong to the IT Security group. Additionally, you must add a new computer administrator’s security group as a local administrator on all servers. To help minimize profile sizes, you also need to configure Folder Redirection to redirect several profile folders to each user’s home drive. Finally, you have to complete the GPO design to manage user desktops and server security.

Get-GPOReport | Powershell to get GPO report for multiple GPO's

10:33
Please watch: "[Fixed] - windows cannot find the microsoft software license terms windows 10" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlgN0tI-gXU -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Powershell script to get report for all GPO settings.Group policy Object is actively used for security prospective in the organizations. And to keep records or reports for all these GPO’s is very important task for IT Administrator. Scenario: We are having 2000 Group policy objects in our Domain i.e. contoso.com which is in Windows Server 2008 R2 and our company has decided to upgrade to Windows Server 2012 R2. But, we got to think of reducing some of the administrative tasks and load on GPO’s. So management has decided to figure out that, how many GPO’s we have in our organization and how to reduce those numbers. As I said earlier we have 2000 group policy, we have to reduce them to by at least 20 %. To achieve this task management has ask IT administrator of contoso.com to get report for all the GPO’s and their settings. Compare GPO’s for duplicate group policy settings and how we can make those settings into another GPO’s. So below are the some questions can be raise at IT administrator mind and task can be achieved with Power shell Questions: How to get HTML or XML Report for single Group Policy Object We can use group policy management console to get HTML report for single GPO. To achieve this task you can go to Group Policy Objects Container, right click on desired GPO, Save Report. And select location and save the report in HTML format. How to get HTML or XML report for Multiple Group Policy Objects? Group policy management console would not be helpful to get report for multiple GPO’s and hence Power shell would be helpful and easy to perform. Power shell to get HTML or XML report for single windows GPO Get-GPReport –Name “Disable_Shutdown_GPO” –ReportType HTML –Path C:\GPOReport\ Disable_Shutdown_GPO.html Power shell to get HTML or XML report for multiple group policy Get-GPOReport -All -Domain contoso.com -Server DC2-Contoso -ReportType HTML -Path C:\GPOReport\GPOReport_all.html Get a Report with Power shell using GUID There are cases when you could have duplicate name for 2 GPO’s and in that case unique parameter for group policy object is GUID. We can use GPO’s GUID to retrieve this report. Get-GPReport –GUID {2F5AF121-86F0-43F4-8C7C-ECD5643A5F6A} –ReportType HTML –Path C:\GPOReport\GPO_Audit_Changes.html If you like the videos uploaded on my channel, please do like them, subscribe & share with your friends. MCTS 70-680: Power Options

14:01
This video looks at power configuration in Windows 7. This includes how sleep, hibernation, and hybrid sleep work as well as the power plans included with Windows. Power plans allow you to group a number of power settings together and quickly and easily change between the power plans as required. Different power plans can also be configured for laptops when they are running off the battery and when they are plugged into the power. Power configuration demo 04:40 Sleep Mode When a computer is put into sleep mode, non essential devices like the hard disk and monitor are switched off. Power is still supplied to the RAM so the computer will continue from where it left off when the computer is woken up from sleep mode. The advantage of sleep mode is that the computer will not take long to spin up the hard disk and switch the other devices back on. The disadvantage with sleep mode is that power is still used. If you are running off of batteries, even in sleep mode the batteries will eventually run out and any unsaved data will be lost. To start any of the power modes, select the start menu. For the sleep mode, select the additional option sleep under the start menu. Some laptops may also have the power button configured to put the laptop to sleep when it is pressed. Hibernation Mode When a computer is put into hibernation mode the contents of the RAM are saved to the hard disk. Once complete the computer is switched off. When the computer starts up again the contents of the RAM are read back into memory. This essentially means the laptop can stay in hibernation mode indefinitely since no power is being used. The disadvantage of hibernation mode is that it can take a while to save all of the RAM to the hard disk, especially if you have a lot of RAM. Hybrid Sleep Windows 7 also has another mode called Hybrid Sleep. This mode can only be enabled from inside the advanced settings inside power configuration. When this mode is enabled the computer will save the RAM to the hard disk like hibernation mode. The difference is that the computer will not shut down, but instead will go into sleep mode. While there is power, the computer will quickly return back to where it was just like sleep mode. If power is lost then the contents of RAM will be lost. Just like hibernation mode, when the computer is started up, the contents of RAM are read from the hard disk and the computer is restored back to where it was. Other power options To save power, Windows allows devices to be switched off or have their power reduced. For example, the screen could be switched off or dimmed. The basic settings allows you to switch off devices like hard disks. Windows also has more advanced options which can configure power options for devices like network adapters. Once you work out which settings you want these can be saved in a power plan. Power plan A power plan allows you to group a number of settings together. This allows you to quickly change between power plans. Windows 7 comes with 3 different power plans that you can customize or use as a template to create a new power plan. Balanced power plan This default power plan provides a balance between power consummation and performance. In this plan devices are shutdown when they are idle for too long. High performance The high performance plan is designed to give you the most performance out of all the plans. Devices like the hard disk are not shut down even when the system is idle. This means that the system will not be sluggish to respond even when you leave it for a long time. Power saver The power saver plan will use the least amount of power, but does give you the worst user experience out of all the power plans. This plan will ensure that if you are using a laptop off of batteries it will last as long as possible. PowerCFG A lot of the power configuration can be done in the command line using the PowerCFG command. The commands used in this video are: PowerCFG --list PowerCFG --devicequery wake_from_any PowerCFG --energy PowerCFG --export (FileName) (Guid) PowerCFG --delete (Guid) PowerCFG --import (Fill filename and path) PowerCFG /? Group Policy The group policy settings for power are found under Computer configuration-Administrative templates-System-Power Management. MCITP 70-640: Local Group Management with Preferences

09:23
Check out http://YouTube.com/ITFreeTraining or http://itfreetraining.com for more of our always free training videos. Management of local groups on your clients can be achieved using Group Policy as well as Group Policy Preferences. This video looks at how Group Policy Preferences can be used to manage local groups on your clients and how to combine them with Group Policy Restricted Groups. Download the PDF handout for this video from http://ITFreeTraining.com/handouts/70-640/part3/localgroupmanagementwithpreferences.pdf User/Group Management Using preferences you can perform a number of actions on a local group. Create: Will create the user\group if it does not exist. If the user\group does exist it will not be modified. Replace: This will delete the user\group and recreates it. In the process of doing this the user\group will obtain a new Sid. Update: Will update the user\group as required. If the user\group does not exist it will be created. Delete: Will remove the user\group. Combing the two If you use restricted groups and Group Policy Preferences together, restricted groups will override Group Policy Preferences. Demonstration The settings for modifying local users and groups are found in the following location. Computer Configuration\Preferences\Control Panel Settings\Local Users and Groups To create the settings for a user or group, click the blank area on the right and select new user and local group. In the dialog to follow, you need to enter in the user and group that you want to target. There is also an option to rename the user or group if you require. There are additional options on the common tab. One useful option when changing group membership is, "apply once and do not reapply". This will ensure that this setting is only ever applied once. When fixing problems with local groups, this is a useful option to use as it will allow another administrator to make changes later to the local groups without those changes being reversed back on the next group policy refresh. There is also an option for item-level targeting. This will allow you to target the settings to certain computers or users like which groups they are in, how much memory is install in the computer only to mention a few of the options that are available. How to disable power management for a network adapter windows 10 - Powershell Script

06:40
How to disable power management for a network adapter windows 10 - Powershell Script Summary - power management for a network adapter windows 10 The enhancements made to Windows 7 for managing power settings for network adapters greatly reduces the number of spurious wakes, allowing computers to sleep for longer periods of time when idle. Furthermore, you can configure the power management settings to meet the needs of your users through device properties, standard registry settings. When deploying Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2, you may want to disable the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power network adapter power management setting on some computers. More Information - power management for a network adapter windows 10 The Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power setting controls how the network card is handled when the computer enters sleep and can be used if a driver misrepresents how it handles sleep states. Windows never turns off the network card due to inactivity. When this setting is checked(enabled), Windows puts the network card to sleep and when it resumes it puts it back to D0. When this setting is not checked(disabled), Windows completely halts the device and on resume reinitializes it. This setting is useful if a network card driver says it supports going to different sleep states and back to D0 but it ultimately doesn’t support this functionality. You can use Device Manager to change the power management settings for a network adapter. To disable this setting in Device Manager, expand Network Adapters, right-click the adapter, click Properties, click the Power Management tab, and then clear the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power check box. In Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2, you have two additional check boxes on the Power Management tab for the Network Adapter that defines whether this device can wake the computer: Allow this device to wake the computer Only allow a magic packet to wake the computer Note: For above mentioned settings to work, you may also have to enable BIOS settings to enable WOL. The specific BIOS settings depend on the manufacturer of the computer. However, with some Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 installations, you may want to use the registry to disable the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power network adapter power management setting or to configure the wake options described above. ************************************** Get a IT Job - http://skl.sh/2ewiCnT What New Skill its Automation http://skl.sh/2ewiCnT Why Skillshare Course are Best? Schedule When Updates Happen and Automatically Reboot Using Group Policy

06:46
This video will show you how to schedule windows updates using Group Policy. This is very valuable to set up the update group policy on Windows Server because otherwise if it automatically updates then it will just reboot itself in 48 hours and get an error saying "Your PC needs to restart to finish installing important updates. If you’ve already saved anything, you can restart now. Otherwise, you should take a moment to save your work." . See http://heresjaken.com/server-2012-r2-automatic-restarting-in-15-minutes/ for more details regarding that. This will also show you how to manually update your server. This video was made using a testing environment on Hyper-V and Windows Server Essentials 2012.

MCTS 70-680: Event forwarding source initiated subscriptions

11:23
Check out http://YouTube.com/ITFreeTraining or http://itfreetraining.com for more of our always free training videos. This video looks at forwarding events from one computer to another using source initiated subscription. Source initiated subscription is when the computer that has events to transfer determines when to transfer these events to the collecting computer. The previous video looked at collector initiated subscription, which is when the collecting computer contacts the forwarding computer at regular intervals to see if it has events that it needs to transfer. Previous Video on event forwarding using collector initiated subscriptions http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZj_9e3AHFk Demo configuring the forwarding computer 01:56 Demo configuring the collector 05:24 Configuring the collector computer To configure the collector computer to receive events from the forwarding computer, run the following two commands: WinRM QuickConfig WECUtil QC Answer y to all the questions. WinRM will configure the WinRM service and the firewall. WECUtil will configure the service that is used to collect events sent from the forwarder. The next step is to configure a subscription on the collector computer. This is done inside the event viewer on the collector computer. Right click on subscriptions in the event viewer and select create subscription. Make sure that source computer initiated is selected. The rest of the options determine which events will be transferred from the forwarding computer. The subscription in this case acts like a filter determining which events to collect and which events to ignore. Configuring the forwarding computer Run the following command on the forwarding computer: WinRm QuickConfig Answer y to both questions. This will configure the service and also the firewall settings. Group Policy The forwarding computer needs to be configured with the address of the server to which the events are forwarded. This can be done with the following group policy setting: Computer configuration-Administrative templates-Windows components-Event forwarding-Configure the server address, refresh interval, and issue certificate authority of a target subscription manager. The syntax is as follows when using the default protocol HTTP and default port: Server=HTTP://FQDN Use the full URL when using HTTPS or different ports: Server=HTTPS://FQDN:5986/wsman/SubscriptionManager/WEC FQDN is the fully qualified domain name, for example, ITFreeTraining.com WECUtil command line WECutil supports a number of different command line options which are listed below. WECUtil ES Lists the subscriptions. The name of the subscription can be used in later commands. WECUtil GS (Subscription name) /f:XML This outputs the subscription configuration. If you want XML format add /f:XML. (Greater than sign) filename can also be added to direct the output to a file. WECUtil CS (Filename) This will create a new subscription using the configuration in the filename.
