High-Protein Diets Are Bad For Your Kidneys: The recommended daily allowance (RDA) for protein is 0.8 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight. In contrast, here at Nova Southeastern, we have data showing that if you're a trained male bodybuilder and consume 3.3 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight per day (four times the RDA), you'll experience no harmful effects to your kidneys, liver, or blood lipids. 2. High-Protein Diets Leach Calcium From Your Bones: This myth about high-protein diets says that consuming too much of it can make your bones brittle and weak. We have done studies up to six months in length that looked at the effect on the bones of women who consumed 2.5-3.0 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight (about three times the RDA). We found no decrease in bone health. In fact, the data suggested that if women eat a high-protein diet, they may increase their lumbar bone-mineral density. 3. Muscle Soreness Is Caused By A Buildup Of Lactic Acid: You might have heard a massage therapist saying, "Today, I'm going to massage the lactic acid out of your muscles so you won't be sore." Sorry to burst their bubble, but lactic acid, aka lactate, has nothing to do with delayed-onset muscle soreness. DOMS is primarily caused by doing eccentric loading or negatives, or by doing exercises that tax your muscles in new ways. In either case, the soreness comes from micro tears in your muscle fibers. Lactate isn't a metabolic poison and it doesn't cause soreness. In fact, it's a fuel source used by your heart, brain, muscles, and kidneys. 4. You Lose More Fat By Decreasing Fats…Or Carbohydrates 5. Taking Creatine Causes Cramps And Dehydration 6. Women Who Strength-Train Get Big And Bulky 7. Artificial Sweeteners Are Bad For You 8. If you're training at home or going to the gym without consulting a trainer, it’s all too easy to include exercises in your workout that target all the wrong areas and give results you didn’t ask for. So which exercises should you avoid if you want to achieve a feminine physique? The first group of exercises you should avoid is exercises that build up the obliques. Your obliques are connected to your lower ribs and go down to your pubic bone, and they create the shape of our body. If you bulk these muscles up, you can forget about having that hour-glass figure of your dreams. There's another group of exercises you should stay away from, and that's exercises that bulk up the neck and shoulders. Working out these muscles can be pretty tricky. You see, the trapezius muscle is a large triangular muscle that spans the upper back, neck, and shoulders. If you work this muscle too hard, you end up losing a thin feminine neck and gaining a wide masculine back. The last group of exercises that'll spoil your pursuit of a feminine figure are exercises that make your legs bigger. You should remember that there are no isolated exercises for the glutes. So when you’re working out your bum muscles with squats, for example, you’re also involving your legs and especially your quads. These 4 muscles are super strong and can grow in size pretty easily and quickly. If you want to have long lean legs, there are certain exercises you should swear off for good. It sounds nice and effective if you’re after wide shoulders, but if you want smaller, more feminine shoulders, this one isn’t for you. -Be sure to choose weights that are comfortable for you, and don’t go for the heavy ones thinking they’ll give you your desired results faster. On the contrary, you can get seriously injured -The wrong positioning of your arms will inevitably involve the trapezius muscle, so you’re better off not risking it and just doing standing tricep extensions instead. -Heavy weights can not only ruin your figure, they also do harm to your knees and lower back. So ditch the weights or at least replace them with small ones. -There are tons of ways you can do leg extensions, but none of them will help you slim down your hips. They only bulk up your quads. -This unnatural position of the body involves not only targeted muscles but also the joints that support them. It's a surefire road to growth, but it's fraught with pain and struggle. If you want to learn bodybuilding from the world's best bodybuilder, you're in the right place. | Basics Are Best | "The biggest mistake being made in bodybuilding today is that people aren't covering basic exercises," says the Austrian Oak. And by basic, Arnold doesn't mean easy. Many contemporary fitness centers are full of people on machines, not in squat racks, and big-box gyms often lack even a single platform. Arnold disapproves: "Today, when I go in the gymnasium, I don't see any of the kids learning about the clean and press, or the snatch, or the upright row from the floor." Schwarzenegger's insistence on the essential lifts is not due to some grandfatherly desire to live in the past. It comes from decades of continued interest and expertise in the industry, and from the hard-earned knowledge that it doesn't take fancy machines or off-the-wall programming to become arguably the best bodybuilder in history. Get back to your bodybuilding roots and experience unbelievable growth. | Arnold Schwarzenegger's Training Tips | Chest: "There are three chest exercises that should always be done," Arnold says. "The bench press, the incline bench press at different angles, and the dumbbell flye." Back: "For back, I did chin-ups, bent-over barbell and dumbbell rows, and the T-bar row. Any kind of rowing movement will give you that thickness. Those are the exercises I relied on from the beginning of my career to the end." Arms: Arnold relied on the barbell curl to build thick biceps, but he also used incline dumbbell curls and concentration curls to isolate his biceps. "For triceps," Arnold says, "we did a lot of narrow [close-grip] bench press in the early days. And then triceps push downs and overhead triceps extensions later." Shoulders: Arnold's shoulders were built by barbell presses, behind-the-neck barbell presses, lateral raises, military presses, and dumbbell presses. "We always did presses behind the neck and a special dumbbell press which would stretch out the front delt at the bottom and fully flex it at the top. Now those are called Arnold presses." Legs "The squat is the most important exercise to create big thighs," says Arnold. "I did back squats, front squats, leg extensions, lunges, single-leg deadlifts, good morning exercises, and a lot of leg curls." Abs: "The regular training we did for abs was just leg raises, knee raises, crunches, and sit-ups.
