Content and Style of Feature Articles

19:23
This lesson links quite closely to the previous lesson, but focuses primarily on various writing styles and content of feature articles. It is important for the learners to realise that magazines need to include articles that readers enjoy or find interesting to read. However, deciding on content is only part of the challenge: writers also need to choose a writing style that will appeal to the audience. Learners are exposed to various styles of writing and are also shown how the style is often determined by content and target audience.

It seems we’ve found the answer – they have an incredibly cool education system and unique teaching methods! There is a unique method in Japanese schools for developing creativity in kids. We believe that the whole world needs to adopt it! It’s called “Nameless paints.” In this video, we'll tell you how it works. Watch till the end – there is a small but brilliant bonus for you. As you can see, the spots are also different sizes. - In Japanese schools, students don’t take any exams until they reach grade four (the age of 10). The goal for the first three years of school is not to judge the child’s knowledge, but to establish good manners and to develop their character. - While most schools in the world begin their academic year in September or October, in Japan, it is April that marks the start of the academic and business calendar. The first day of school often coincides with one of the most beautiful natural phenomena — the time of cherry blossom. - In Japanese schools, students have to clean the classrooms, cafeterias, and even toilets all by themselves. Most Japanese schools do not employ janitors or custodians. - All classmates eat in their classroom together with the teacher. This helps build positive teacher-student relationships. - To get into a good junior high school, most Japanese students enter a preparatory school or attend private after-school workshops. - Japanese calligraphy, or Shodo, involves dipping a bamboo brush in ink and using it to write hieroglyphs on rice paper. - While some schools have their attire, traditional Japanese school uniform consists of a military style for boys and a sailor outfit for girls. - At the end of high school, Japanese students have to take an exam that determines their future. A student can choose one college they would like to go to, and that college has a particular score requirement. - Having gone through ‘examination hell,’ Japanese students usually take a little break. In this country, college is often considered the best years of a person’s life. Sometimes, Japanese people call this period a ‘vacation’ before work. School Lunches You've Probably Never Heard About

08:14
Here’s what school lunches around the world look like. Meals for kids in different countries are truly amazing and surprising! Every country has its standards for school meals. Some schools offer convenience food and snacks for lunch, and some cook set meals for students. What do you think the most popular ingredients of school lunches are? Well, how about octopus, kimchi, or chili? Are you curious what kids eat in South Korea? What they prefer in Turkey? Some of those lunches are quite unusual. Watch and try to find your childhood meals! TIMESTAMPS South Korea 0:41 Japan 1:23 Turkey 1:55 Thailand 2:28 France 2:59 Finland 3:28 Russia 4:08 Hungary 4:34 Israel 4:53 Colombia 5:25 Italy 5:55 Australia 6:37 Chile 7:11 SUMMARY - The system of planning school meals in South Korea is one of the best in the world. Lunches are served on special trays. The two biggest sections of the tray are usually for soup and rice. Smaller sections are for salads, seafood, veggies, and fruit. - Japanese school lunches are almost the same as the South Korean ones: hot soup, rice, poultry or fish, salad, and milk. Students are not allowed to bring their food with them until they reach high school. - It's interesting that, though children in Turkey have 1 hour for lunch, cafeterias are rare in this country. So students either go home for lunch (which might be hard to do if you live on the other side of the town!) or take food from home. - Students in Thailand don't eat in the canteen, just like their "colleagues" from Japan. They are usually given soup, pork in sweet and sour sauce, rice, and a pudding wrapped in banana leaves. - Typical lunch served in the west of France looks very healthy. It is fish, spinach, potatoes, cheese, and bread. It is quite big as the French consider lunch the main meal of the day. - Finland takes school lunches very seriously. Every student is offered snacks during the morning and evening classes, as well as lunch. Children eat their lunches in a canteen where they can choose whatever they want from a large variety of dishes. - In Russia, students can have free breakfast from 9 a.m. till 12 p.m. Lunches after 12 p.m. are paid. Children sometimes have lunch at home if they live near the school. If it is a school lunch, it is usually soup, fish or meat with a side dish of rice or buckwheat, and compote. - Hungary is famous for its big portions in restaurants and cafes. Same goes for school lunches. Children have several courses, with, for example, noodle soup, baked beans with chicken, and nuts for dessert. - Israel schools have the policy of a healthy diet. The government banned fatty and sugary things from school lunches. But the thing is that children mostly bring their meals from home. - 60-70% of children in Colombia are given free nutritious lunches. Students of state schools eat one hot meal a day. Their typical meal consists of soup, rice or pasta, salad, meat, and fruit juice. - Before lunch, in the morning, children get snacks (crackers, breadsticks, fresh fruit, or homemade cookies). For lunch they get two courses: a first course is often pasta or rice with seafood or vegetables, a second course - fish, meat, or cheese. - Authorities in Australia fight against children's obesity. That's why products rich in sugar, salt, and fat are forced out of school menu. But you can find their healthier replacements such as sandwiches, sushi, corn and fruit available at any time. - Students in Chile have nice and varied lunches. An example can be a meal with rice, beef roll, French fries, salad, avocado, orange juice, and fruit in the sauce for dessert. The Constitution, the Articles, and Federalism: Crash Course US History #8

13:04
In which John Green teaches you about the United States Constitution. During and after the American Revolutionary War, the government of the new country operated under the Articles of Confederation. While these Articles got the young nation through its war with England, they weren't of much use when it came to running a country. So, the founding fathers decided try their hand at nation-building, and they created the Constitution of the United States, which you may remember as the one that says We The People at the top. John will tell you how the convention came together, some of the compromises that had to be made to pass this thing, and why it's very lucky that the framers installed a somewhat reasonable process for making changes to the thing. You'll learn about Shays' Rebellion, the Federalist Papers, the elite vs rabble dynamic of the houses of congress, and start to find out just what an anti-federalist is. 10 Of The Most Evil School Teachers Ever

06:25
top 10 horrible teachers who were bad to their students Subscribe to our channel: http://goo.gl/9CwQhg For copyright matters please contact us at: [email protected] Other Videos You Might Like 5 Dumb Parent Fights In Front of Children https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k94Lsh4Qc1M 10 Game Show Cheaters Caught On Camera! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9HinSG4thM Description: While everyone had that one teacher in school they couldn’t stand, they were just doing their jobs. Going to school five days a week can be difficult on both students and staff, but what if it were the teachers causing the headaches? While there are certainly good teachers, there are also bad teachers. Dishing out ridiculous punishments, verbally and physically abusing students and even sedating their snacks, these teachers are downright evil. Being in school can be tough enough on its own; bullies, homework, cafeteria food. But what if the teachers are the problem? While the majority of teachers are there to do their jobs and set good examples, there are always exceptions. Here are ten of the most evil teachers. When seven-year-old Ukailya Lofton, came in for picture day at Overton Elementary School in Chicago she didn’t expect her teacher to poke fun at her. The little girl had seen a new style in a magazine and asked her mother to attach Jolly Rancher candies to her hair for the picture. Her computer teacher apparently thought the look was ridiculously funny and asked the girl to pose for a photo, saying “my husband is not going to believe this.” She later posted the photo on Facebook, where her friends mocked the little girl. When Ukailya’s mother was made aware of the photo, she notified the school. The teacher apologized, but not to the little girl directly. In December 2015, at an elementary school in Stoneham, Massachusetts, twenty-six second grade students went home in tears. The substitute teacher, who was hired through a staffing service, apparently told the children that there was no Santa Claus. Days before winter break, the sub told the young children, “Santa Claus is just a character. There’s no such thing as Santa Claus and it’s your parents who buy all the presents for you.” When parents and other teachers found out what had happened, the sub was banned from the school. Welsh primary school teacher Elizabeth Davies had a very humiliating practice in her classroom. She would spray her Asian students with air freshener and have them wash their hands with pine disinfectant. Before spraying her young students, she would tell them they smelt of curry and that there was a “waft coming in from paradise.” More than fifty percent of the school’s pupils are of Bangladeshi descent. Davies would also spray them if they broke wind and make them stand on newspapers if they accidentally wet themselves. She was subsequently fired for her actions. 03:58

Education Week’s Kavitha Cardoza has some tips on how educators can recognize JUULing and what they can do about it.
