The pros and cons of trading futures

04:04
The pros and cons of trading futures is the topic of conversation on this video today. Trading futures is what I specialise in and started learning when I was just 18 years old. I, now do believe that futures is one of the best markets to trade. However, I don’t wish to paint a picture of unicorns and rainbows. People do need understand that the as with any market there are both good and bad things that can happen, so let’s get started. One of the first pros of trading futures I find is that you can get started very easily with very low barriers of entry. You can start an account with just $1000 which is much lower than other marketplaces. There is also a lot less manipulation in the markets, comparted to places like the Forex market. That doesn’t mean to say there is not any manipulation, but it is a lot more of a level playing field. This is great for beginners as it allows you trade in a regulated market, meaning you have less chance of being stung due to unfair conduct. The E-mini S&P 500 is the highest traded market by professional retail traders. Retail traders are people like you and me, sitting at home trading in front of our computers. Now, moving on to the cons in our pros and cons of trading futures discussion. With trading futures, it is a little easier to make more money, however with that in mind it means you are able to lose just as much money. Because the leverage is a lot higher, it is a bit riskier if you don’t know what you are doing. There are ways to make sure you are on top of your game, using stop losses, high probability strategies to make sure your winners are bigger than your losers. These are some quick points on the pros and cons of trading futures, there aren’t a lot of cons as it is easy to get started and it has a more level playing field. However, you need to make sure you have a good strategy and be on top of your game to make sure you don’t get stung in this large market. Futures Market Explained

04:27
Farmers use various tools to control the many risks in agriculture. Watching the weather influences when they plant or harvest. Buying crop insurance and selecting farm bill safety net programs helps protect them from crop devastation. But they can also manage some of the threat posed by volatile market prices by participating in the futures market. Farmers can get a feel for how that works if they play Commodity Classic, an online teaching tool that uses fictitious bushels of grain in a fake futures market. But here at Harvest Public Media, we wanted to better understand how the futures market helps both producers and users of a major commodity, such as corn. And how the benefits trickle down to regular food consumers. Here’s what we learned.

Remembering Jack Bogle: Vanguard Founder and Father of Index Investing

07:55
John Clifton "Jack" Bogle was an American investor, business magnate, and philanthropist. Today, January 16, 2019, Jack Bogle passed away at age 89. This video is in honor and remembrance of his legacy as a champion of index investing and putting investors' interests first. Both of which were core principles in the company he founded, The Vanguard Group. Warren Buffett on Jack Bogle: "If a statue is ever erected to honor the person who has done the most for American investors, the hands down choice should be Jack Bogle. For decades, Jack has urged investors to invest in ultra-low-cost index funds. In his crusade, he amassed only a tiny percentage of the wealth that has typically flowed to managers who have promised their investors large rewards while delivering them nothing – or, as in our bet, less than nothing – of added value." Vanguard on Jack Bogle: Mr. Bogle had near-legendary status in the American investment community, largely because of two towering achievements: * He introduced the first index mutual fund for individual investors and, in the face of skeptics, stood behind the concept until it gained widespread acceptance. * He drove down costs across the mutual fund industry by ceaselessly campaigning in the interests of investors. Vanguard, the company he founded to embody his philosophy, is now one of the largest investment management firms in the world. “Jack Bogle made an impact on not only the entire investment industry, but more importantly, on the lives of countless individuals saving for their futures or their children’s futures,” said Vanguard CEO Tim Buckley. “He was a tremendously intelligent, driven, and talented visionary whose ideas completely changed the way we invest. We are honored to continue his legacy of giving every investor ‘a fair shake.’” “The Vanguard Experiment” Under Mr. Bogle’s tutelage, Vanguard began operations on May 1, 1975. He called the new venture “The Vanguard Experiment,” where mutual funds would be operated at cost and independently. Vanguard thus represented a radical change from the traditional mutual fund structure, in which an external management company manages a fund for profit. “Our challenge at the time,” Mr. Bogle recalled a decade later, “was to build … a new and better way of running a mutual fund complex. The Vanguard Experiment was designed to prove that mutual funds could operate independently, and do so in a manner that would directly benefit their shareholders.” An aficionado of naval history, Mr. Bogle named the company after Admiral Horatio Nelson’s flagship at the Battle of the Nile in 1798; he thought the name “Vanguard” resonated with the themes of leadership and progress. The nautical theme can still be seen in Vanguard’s logo and communications to shareholders. “Father of indexing” In 1976, Vanguard introduced the first index mutual fund for individual investors. Ridiculed by others in the industry as “un-American” and “a sure path to mediocrity,” the fund, First Index Investment Trust, collected a mere $11 million during its initial underwriting. Now known as Vanguard 500 Index Fund, it has grown to be one of the industry’s largest, with more than $400 billion in assets. Today, index funds account for more than 70% of Vanguard’s $5.1 trillion in assets under management; they are offered by many other fund companies as well and they make up most exchange-traded funds (ETFs). For his pioneering of the index concept for individual investors, Mr. Bogle is often called the “father of indexing.” This video: https://youtu.be/4neJpO3b9WI This channel: http://bit.ly/MichaelJayInvesting Michael Jay - Value Investing
The advantages of investing in futures

M&G’s Laura Frost highlights the advantages of investing in a future contract over holding its physical underlying asset. A future is an exchange traded contract which is a more convenient and faster way to take a view on the future direction of a bond or index. Finally, Laura demonstrates how duration can be adjusted either longer or shorter in a portfolio via government bond futures

How to Trade the Index Futures’ Market

07:19
If you haven't seen my free webinar yet: http://cli.re/AUWeb1EN Hi, guys. Hi from Andrea Unger, and some infos about index futures today. I live in Italy; I’m in Europe—the first name that comes into my mind is the DAX future. Sorry about that. Doesn’t write, but we have to write it out. GX is the code you normally find, or FDAX, okay? DAX Future is on Eurex, Germany; and it’s a very liquid future, very active. It was very well responding to a number of inputs and models. Lately, in the last years, it became a little bit choppier or, I might say, more difficult to respond to certain inputs. So, it’s still a good market to develop on, but it’s getting harder and harder to find good strategies on DAX. In any case, the main characteristic is to be trend-following. If you develop on DAX, the outcomes are in Euro. I might tell you that a good intraday strategy should be developed with a stop loss not smaller than 50 points, but better in direction of 1700 points. Which means: €1250, up to €2500 stop loss. Believe me, it’s heavy. So, consider this only if you are well capitalised for your trading. And DAX can be traded intraday and overnight, but if you feel that it is too expensive for you, you might consider his younger brother, the mini DAX. Mini DAX has one-fifth of the value of DAX future and moves pretty much very similar to it because Germans are very strict to the rules. The difference is the DAX moves in half a point; mini DAX, full point. So actually, if you develop strategies, you better develop on DAX data, and then you apply trades to the mini-DAX—it’s the best way to go. Also, considering that the mini DAX is still very young and that it was born in 2015, so actually, you would not even have a long enough dataset to develop on. That said, there is also the Eurostoxx in Eurex, but I will not suggest you to focus on that market or even write it here because, Eurostoxx, it’s very difficult to find good models to work on. For long-term trend-following, it might be fine, no problem. But on intraday or short-term overnight strategies, it’s very difficult to find something that works properly. Even though it is highly correlated to the DAX. But in spite of that, probably due to the weight of the tick value, compared to the tick move, it does not offer a good way to enter and exit the market. At least, this is my experience. So, I’ll mention the DAX and, eventually, mini DAX if you want to trade smaller. If you go on the other side of the ocean, get into the US, obviously, you have the E-mini S&P. Code is ES&P 500. E-mini S&P is most probably the most liquid market in the world. It was born in ‘98. Sorry, dropped my pen. Here it is. It was a black swan. And the E-mini S&P changed the characteristics of the index market in the States. Actually, if you look at the S&P 500, what worked on the S&P 500 changed completely after the E-mini S&P was born because this electronic market changed so much. The level of efficiency it reached changed, completely, the world of trading in the States. And now, today, E-mini S&P is very well responding to mean-reverting approach, and it’s very hard to find a good trend-following strategy on the E-mini S&P. So, if you want to develop on the E-mini S&P, but you better look in the direction of something which is counter-trend, rather than trend-following. Also, don’t forget that it works much better on the long side in a systematic way, rather than on the short; even though we remember periods of time such as 2002 and 2008, when the markets dropped dramatically. Also, in those years, long entry counter-trend models worked and produced money, while it had been difficult to find good short entries, even in those markets. I got models. I got it, but it was difficult to find. So, it’s better to develop in the long entry because the short moves are very hectic and it’s difficult to find a clean way to trade them because systematic trading is a clean and modelled way to trade. So, when the market is crazy, it’s difficult to adapt to it. In the States, you always very well know the E-mini NASDAQ, but I would suggest not to consider E-mini NASDAQ too much for automated trading. Maybe it’s my limits, but I never was able to find something that worked properly on the E-mini NASDAQ. It’s not only my experience. I can tell you, also students of mine, and also colleagues of mine had trouble in developing stuff on the E-mini NASDAQ. So, I mean, I don’t suggest you to focus on it. If you want, perfect, do it and I hope you get very high success rate on it. But it might be difficult, so you better focus on some other instrument...

Should you Trade the Dow Jones or S&P 500? 🔑

10:29
★ Should you trade the Dow or S&P500? ★ Trade Dow or S&P500 at http://www.financial-spread-betting.com/spreadbetting/Ayondo-compare.html ★ If you found value in watching this video, PLEASE LIKE AND SHARE so we can do more! Which is better to trade or invest in, S&P 500 or Dow Jones? Dow: Spread on the Dow goes from 1.6 to 5.8 S&P 500: Spread on the S&P500 0.4 to 0.9; the tighter spreads are when the USA cash session is open so 2.30pm to 9pm UK time. Dow: Margin typically is 0.5% S&P 500: Margin typically is 0.5% Dow trades rounds the clock S&P 500: 14.30 to 23.00 The average true range of the Dow Jones is about 175 points as I'm recording this while the average true range of the S&P 500 is about 16 points. This is where things get a little bit different. So comparatively speaking, the bid-offer spread on the Dow Jones is better than the S&P. The percentage of the spread compared to the atr is more competitive on the Dow Jones; however the S&P 500 trades in 0.25 increments and 4 will make 1 point. The S&P 500 tends to be more stable as opposed the Dow Jones so you're less likely to be taken out on everyday noise.

What Should You Start Trading First? Stocks, Options, Commodities, Forex?

05:51
What Should You Start Trading First? Stocks, Options, Commodities, Forex? ★ SUMMARY ★ Stocks, Options, Commodities or Forex? It really comes down to personal preference. Personally, I started with the stock market and prefer it as a starting place for beginners. Why? Stocks have a lot more liquidity, they are easier to understand and it’s easier to get in/out of them. Options are my second choice because you can leverage and make more from your money or trade larger stocks for fewer yields. Basically, it allows you to control more of the expensive stocks. S&P 500 Futures

04:08
http://profitabletradingtips.com/trading-investing/sp-500-futures S&P 500 Futures By www.ProfitableTradingTips.com A common means of trading based on economic indicators is to trade S&P 500 Futures. The S&P 500 (Standard & Poor's 500) is a stock market index. The S&P 500 index tracks the performance of 500 leading and publically traded US companies. This index is often considered to be an indicator of the United States economy. The S&P 500 is maintained and updated by Standard & Poor's, who also do ratings of public and private debt. They are a subsidiary of the publisher, McGraw-Hill. The ticker symbols for the S&P 500 are GSPC, INX, and $SPX depending on the market you are trading in. As with many traded equities the index also is traded as S&P 500 futures. The futures trading strategy that one follows in trading S&P 500 futures may be different than what one uses to trade individual stocks. An Index that Tracks the US Economy The S&P 500 index is a composite of 500 stocks. Starting alphabetically with 3M and Abbott Laboratories, it includes Apple and Microsoft, Avon and P&G, Ford, General Electric and General Mills. Not only is the index a measure of the strength of the US economy but it is also a measure of the length and breadth of the US economy. As such, a major gain by Apple, 3M, or P&G will only move the S&P 500 and S&P 500 futures prices a small amount. When there is a market crash the entire S&P 500 falls along with futures contracts on the index. During the same time an individual bank or consumer services stock may rise in price. Trading the S&P 500 and S&P 500 is trading on the ups and downs of the US economy. Futures and Options on Futures As with all futures contracts it is often possible to trade options on those contracts. In trading futures options on the S&P 500 the same fundamental and technical analysis applies as with trading the index or its futures directly. The benefit of buying options on S&P 500 futures is that one limits risk to the cost of an options contract. Calls on S&P 500 futures give the trader the right to purchase a future at a set price no matter how high that contract price might go. Puts allow the trader to sell the futures contract at a set price no matter how low the price might fall. In each case, call or put, a futures trader is not obligated to purchase or sell and will only so if it leads to a profit. As options contracts have value up to the moment of expiration, traders often buy a call or put and then sell in order to limit loss or to insure a profit. In and Out with a Profit Many futures traders never intend to buy or sell the equity on which they are trading futures. This applies to S&P 500 futures as well. The most common approach is to exit the contract by executing the opposite trade prior to expiration. In fact, in profitable futures day trading, one enters and exits contracts throughout the day, taking small profits as able. Having bought his first stock at 11 years of age and having $53,000 dollars to his name at 17, he sure knows a thing or two about this market. And even though he spent a lifetime developing his skills, he’s has shared some very straightforward advice about investing that anyone can take advantage of. Warren Buffett’s first rule is to simply think long term over short term. He might be going overboard with this concept and he is truly embracing it around his entire life. He still lives in the same house he bought in 1958 and is also working at the very same desk since 50 years back and doesn’t use a computer but traditional pen and paper. He’s been quoted saying he doesn’t throw anything away until he’s had it for at least 20-25 years. So thinking long term is natural for him and the ability to resist selling has proved to be very successful for him. So having that said the reason why he’s holding on to what he buys is because he does his homework and does so very well. He’s stated many times that he spends 80 % of his day reading and catching up with the latest news and what companies to invest in. He thinks about life and investing as learning as much as he can and reads between 600-1,000 pages every single day. However not many people have the time or money to read for 8 hours a day and invest a few billions in the biggest companies like Warren Buffet, and it’s not a strategy that anyone can apply and find success with. And I wanted to make a video explaining how absolutely anyone can invest and become rich without taking time to read and grasp what to invest in which is why I’m super excited to share this with you. So when reading the Berkshire Hathaway Annual report of 2013, one of the most interesting paragraphs I found was on page 20 where he gave a very simple and straightforward advice about investing. He says “My money is where my mouth is: What I advise here is essentially identical to certain instructions I’ve laid out in my will. So in his will he’s demanded that future of his family's money money should be invested such as this: Put 10% of the cash in short-term government bonds and 90% in a very low-cost S&P 500 index fund.” And he finishes it off by stating “I believe the trust’s long-term results from this policy will be superior to those attained by most investors” I told you it was straight forward. Don’t try to outplay the market but instead play with it. No man or machine can predict the ups and downs of the market, well except for Warren Buffett, so it would be foolish to try to beat it when you can simply join it. The very same formula was also mentioned in Tony Robbins book money master the game and index funds really seems to be the future of investments because the market will always rise in long term, and that’s essentially what you invest in - the market. The S&P 500 contains all the 500 largest companies that trade on NYSE and Nasdaq. Instead of picking stocks individually, you can now own a piece of all of the biggest companies such as Apple, Microsoft and Google. And investing in an index fund is very secure since a single company might go bankrupt, however the market will not. And you don’t have to stick to only the U.S market but could invest in the european and asian markets that’s also doing very well and you can even invest in global index funds to own a part of the biggest companies in the world. And for the other 10 %, the short-term government bonds is a very low risk low cost alternative that is also offered by vanguard amongst others. Short-term bonds are very attractive to investors because of they’re very stable and consistently rising, however the return tends to be smaller. And I’ll finish it off through Warren Buffett’s words: “The goal of the non-professional should not be to pick winners but should rather be to own a cross-section of businesses that in aggregate are bound to do well.” Music: Life of Riley by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) Source: http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/index.html?isrc=USUAN1400054 Artist: http://incompetech.com/
