How FinTech is Shaping the Future of Banking | Henri Arslanian | TEDxWanChai

14:02
While FinTech is revolutionizing the banking industry and giving millions of people access to financial services for the first time, new banking models are emerging with FinTech start-ups and tech firms potentially disrupting the status quo. But business schools and universities are not preparing future bankers for these changes, says FinTech thought leader Henri Arslanian. How can designers, programmers and creative thinkers help? Henri Arslanian started his career as a financial markets and funds lawyer in Canada and Hong Kong, after which he spent many years with UBS Investment Bank in Hong Kong. In recent years, he has been teaching graduate courses on Entrepreneurship in Finance at Hong Kong University as an Adjunct Associate Professor, and currently leads the first FinTech course in Asia. His latest book on Entrepreneurship in Finance will be published in late 2016 by Palgrave Macmillan. A member of the Milken Institute’s Young Leaders Circle, Henri is a regular keynote speaker globally on the topic of FinTech and hedge funds and currently sits on a number of finance, academic, civil society and FinTech related boards and advisory boards. Henri is fluent in English, French, Armenian, Spanish and conversational in Mandarin Chinese and has been awarded many academic and industry awards over the years, including the Governor General of Canada Gold Medal for Academic Excellence. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx

Streamcast Technologies and Enemalta launch €75 million investment

02:32
Enemalta plc and Streamcast Technologies, Inc. signed an agreement to invest up to €75 million in the global data centre market, starting with the development of a secure data hub at one of the Maltese company’s underground installations at Marsa. Through this agreement, Streamcast will be using Enemalta’s underground facilities to develop a Tier 4 Data Centre, building on the sites’ inherent structural stability and security coupled with round-the-clock stable and low temperature conditions. This investment will help Enemalta maximise the potential of its extensive underground infrastructure and international fibre optic connectivity. Ing. Fredrick Azzopardi, Enemalta plc Executive Chairman, and Nimish Pandya, Chairman, Streamcast Technologies, Inc., signed a memorandum of understanding to launch this investment on Monday November 27, 2017, after several weeks of discussions, with the support of Malta Enterprise. By the end of the year, Enemalta plc will be completing the necessary infrastructural preparations for this development. Streamcast ICT network engineers and technicians will soon be in Malta to coordinate the project with the support of Enemalta’s business development team. The servers and other equipment of the new data centre will be installed in one of Enemalta’s underground facilities at Marsa. Following this initial pilot project, the agreement between the two companies also provides for knowledge-sharing and further studies with a view to extending this investment. Streamcast Technologies, Inc. is a leading private IP cloud operator, leveraging its globally patented technology to deliver next generation jitter-free, high-definition streaming services over ultra-low bandwidth. It currently powers wired and wireless operators to deliver on-demand video streaming, live events, VOIP and video chat to over 33 million users across India, South East Asia and MENA. Established in 1977, Enemalta plc is the leading energy services provider in the Maltese Islands, entrusted with the generation and distribution of electricity, and the development of the national electricity distribution network. The Company provides reliable and affordable services to over 400,000 customers, whilst developing efficient electricity infrastructure to meet the nation’s energy requirements. In recent years, Enemalta implemented major programmes to radically transform its electricity generation infrastructure, reinforce the distribution network, consolidate the quality of its services and achieve long-term financial sustainability through the diversification of its services and operations. Upon signing the agreement for this new collaboration, Mr. Nimish Pandya, said that “the crystallisation of this relationship between Enemalta and Streamcast gives us an immense sense of happiness. I firmly believe that this is a unique partnership with lots of potential. The synergies emerging from our collaboration are going to be tremendously beneficial to the economy of Malta. We are proud to be a part of this development. Our new partnership with Enemalta ideally fits into the growth strategy of Streamcast.” Ing. Fredrick Azzopardi thanked Enemalta’s recently-launched business development team and Streamcast for working to establish this collaboration. “Today’s agreement is a blueprint for the future of our Company. Securing the necessary resources to continue offering our customers efficient and reliable electricity services at some of Europe’s lowest tariffs is a tough challenge we need to overcome every day. Consolidating Enemalta as a lean and financially-sustainable enterprise means that we have to be creative and seek new ways of diversifying our operations and maximising the potential of our resources.” “Today’s agreement will not be the last collaboration of its kind by Enemalta. Our business development team is in talks with several other local and international companies to continue diversifying our portfolio, not only in the global data centre market, but in other new sectors as well,” Ing. Azzopardi concluded.

New Technologies: What large tech companies are investing in?

01:47:05
Scott Mauvais - the Director, Civic Innovation. He was talking about what Microsoft does in Silicon Valley and What large tech companies are investing in? He has a presentation on industry trends. He is in Microsoft from 15 years. He said that they have four cities program Chicago, Boston, New York and San Francisco. They are looking for the unique aspects. He showed a video and tell the audience to analyze the video. It's about that how we project the information. The hardest thing in technology is user interface usability. You saw a lot of gestures, moving things around that just worked and how do we train users to get people familiar right more. We had tablets in early 2000. It took a lot bigger hardware and bigger battery. But even in such user interface. Later we had pocket PC. The big advantage is how we provide a battery to power a device all day along. The idea he does not constrain by the CPU and memory and disk and bandwidth but constrain by power. He is working on making things natural. So everybody has their different take on landing market trends about social, mobile, clouds and big data. If you looking at Ecosystem the fundamental change that the concept of the computer is changing. The other thing we see is devices that ship moment to a battery that lasts for the lifetime. The computers used to be pure input devices. They are sensing the world around. They are really extending our reach of data. For 5-10 years, everything has some sort of processing power. He then showed a video. He said that here everything is on display. You saw the content can move from one to another. For us, mobility is not a device. It is actually computing device with me and one can interact with anyone everywhere. However, the search is an exercise of doing information, finding information etc. To know more about Silicon Valley Innovation Center please visit: https://siliconvalley.center Our LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/Sili... US Tech Giants Invest In European Data Centres

05:22
Digital Marketing News; http://webcertain.tv Multiple American tech giants are looking to invest large amounts of money in the European cloud computing market. In order to become large players in keeping data in the continent, both Amazon and Microsoft are spending billions of dollars on opening multiple data centres in many of the major online markets. Currently the largest company in the sector, Amazon Web Services recently revealed that it would be opening several data centres in the UK and France, to add to its new multi-million dollar compound in the Netherlands. Meanwhile, Microsoft said recently that it had invested one billion US dollars in the past year in order to expand its current European-based cloud services. Satya Nadella, Microsoft’s CEO, said “we’re building our global cloud infrastructure in Europe so it can be trusted by the multiple constituents”. The move from these businesses is thought to come in response to the multiple European regulatory issues that have ensured that European data stays within Europe, and cannot be sent to the US to be viewed by law enforcement. The news comes as Yahoo faces controversy after admitting to searching its users’ email accounts on behalf of US government agencies, such as the NSA and the FBI. A new European study has revealed that email marketing campaigns are less engaging than they once were. The survey by Adobe, which looked into the email habits of 3,000 working people across Europe, also revealed that even though 10% less people are engaged by email marketing compared to 2015, they spend more time than ever checking their messages. It was also found that compared to its larger European neighbours, professionals in the UK are more easily targeted outside of work hours. Whilst in the UK 53% of people would check their emails whilst in bed, only 42% and 34% would do the same in France and Germany respectively. That pattern continues when it comes to checking work messages at the weekend as well, with Brits likely to check 43 emails on average, compared to Germans reading only 17, and French people reading 16. Facebook is expected to be the dominant channel for digital ad spend in Thailand this year. A report from the Digital Advertising Association in Thailand suggests that the amount of money spent on Facebook advertising in the country is expected to rise by around 30 million US dollars from 2015, almost a 50% increase. Whilst Facebook will lead the way in the market this year, its next best competitor, YouTube, falls well behind with a nationwide 47.7 million US dollar spend compared to Facebook’s 81 million US dollars. When questioned, nearly half of marketers in Thailand said that the reason for the rise in spending was to increase awareness and reach, whilst the second most popular reason was to increase customer engagement, something only 16% of marketers held as an objective. Following its success in the US, Apple has now launched Apple Pay in its 10th market around the world. After previous launches in markets including the UK, China and Canada, Apple has announced the service has now launched in Russia. The payment service allows users to pay for items in any high-street shop that has ‘near-field communication’ technology, but whilst it has seen success in the US, Apple has failed to see high-levels of usage in other markets. Other digital payment apps such as Android Pay and Samsung Pay have all provided tough competition for Apple in the international market, with Samsung’s offering already gaining traction in Russia. After launching in Russia, Apple Pay is reportedly looking to Japan for its next launch.

Transforming cities with technology | The Economist

18:59
Cities are growing faster than at any time in history, straining services and infrastructure. Technology-driven advances are at the forefront of solving this age-old problem Click here to subscribe to The Economist on YouTube: http://econ.trib.al/rWl91R7 By 2050, two thirds of the world’s population will live in cities. Urbanisation is happening faster than at any time in human history. Globally, 900 million people are living in slums. Cities can’t add housing fast enough. Today, an estimated one billion vehicles are already bringing urban areas to a standstill. Cities consume three-quarters of the world’s energy each year and are responsible for around 50% of greenhouse gas emissions. These are challenges our cities have been facing for decades. But now some city leaders, businesses, and even citizens, are taking new approaches to tackling these old problems. They’re transforming their cities with technology. In Seoul, the use of data is seen as the key to tackling some of the big challenges of city life - like moving its people around. City workers here use sophisticated technology to understand and transform how the city - and its metro - can be run. The subway system transports 7 million people every day. It’s widely regarded as one of the best in the world. And the entire network from wheels to workers is driven by data. The speed and frequency of the trains can be constantly adjusted to keep everything running smoothly. “Smart” cameras measure how many passengers are boarding - and how quickly and sensors on the trains and tracks monitor every last component to provide early warnings when maintenance is required and prevent a costly breakdown. They use smartphone apps, social media and the web to give citizens real-time alerts and alternative routes - and keep this megacity running smoothly. Transport is just the start. Seoul’s city planners are using data to better understand more of the big challenges this fast-growing city faces, from air pollution to affordable housing. There are an estimated 30,000 start-ups in South Korea - many of which are offering innovative solutions to challenges like the city’s housing shortages. One company uses this open-source data to pair up young people looking for accommodation with older citizens who have rooms to spare. It’s a tiny offshoot of an industry that is growing rapidly in cities across the world. By 2020, this so-called “smart city” industry will be worth an estimated $1.5 trillion dollars. There’ll be investment in everything from networks and sensors to new apps and services, from the world’s biggest technology firms, to innovative new startups working from someone’s front room. This is the headquarters of FLARE, a start-up based in Kenya. Its young entrepreneurs are working with real-time data sourced from that most ubiquitous of modern innovations: the smartphone. Kenya’s capital, Nairobi is emerging as a vibrant tech hub. It is also one of the fastest growing cities in the world. Home to 4.2 million people, it’s more than doubled its population in the last 20 years. As in many cities in developing countries the ageing, inadequate infrastructure is struggling to cope. The problem isn't a shortage of ambulances - Nairobi has 150 of them - double the number needed in an average city. But the city has no centralized emergency service to coordinate them. Residents here are faced with 50 different numbers to call for help - and no guarantee when - or whether - their ambulance will arrive. The app aims to do the job of a centralized emergency service, compiling real-time data to coordinate and connect patients in need, available ambulances and the right hospitals or healthcare providers. Across the developing world, innovators are increasingly exploiting existing technology to help citizens cope with their cities’ overstretched infrastructure. In America, innovators are also looking ahead to the next wave - anticipating data-driven technologies that could help predict problems before they even happen. Boston, Massachusetts, is the 10th largest metropolitan area in America. It’s home to 4.8 million residents. And while Boston may be one of the oldest urban settlements in this country it’s fast developing world leading technology that could help shape the cities of the future. This is the mission of MIT’s Senseable City Lab - to anticipate the impact of technology on urban life and use it to transform the way cities are run. Why Big Data Analytics is the Best Career Path? Hello guys my name is Daniel and you are watching beginner tuts and in this video, we are going to talk about why big data analytics is the best career path? If you’re looking for an amazing career option in information technology and don’t know anything about this industry, then this video can help you become a big data analytics engineer. The Average salary of a big data engineer is 100,000 annually… That’s right guys. 100 grand a year. Now you must be wondering, what the heck is big data?? Big data is a term for data sets that are so large or complex that traditional data processing application software is too weak to deal with them. Big data challenges include capturing data, data storage, data analysis, search, sharing, transfer, visualization, querying, updating and information privacy. The Great White is considered to be the King of the Ocean. This is because the great White is on top of its game. Imagine if you could be on top of the game in the ocean of Big Data! Big Data is everywhere and there is almost an urgent need to collect and preserve whatever data is being generated, for the fear of missing out on something important. There is a huge amount of data floating around. What we do with it is all that matters right now. This is why Big Data Analytics is in the frontiers of IT. Big Data Analytics has become crucial as it aids in improving business, decision makings and providing the biggest edge over the competitors. This applies for organizations as well as professionals in the Analytics domain. For professionals, who are skilled in Big Data Analytics, there is an ocean of opportunities out there. . Why Big Data Analytics is the Best Career move? If you are still not convinced by the fact that Big Data Analytics is one of the hottest skills, here are 5 more reasons for you to see the big picture. 1. Soaring Demand for Analytics Professionals: Jeanne Harris, senior executive at Accenture Institute for High Performance, has stressed the significance of analytics professionals by saying, “…data is useless without the skill to analyze it.” There are more job opportunities in Big Data management and Analytics than there were last year and many IT professionals are prepared to invest time and money for the training. The job trend graph for Big Data Analytics, from Indeed.com, proves that there is a growing trend for it and as a result there is a steady increase in the number of job opportunities. The current demand for qualified data professionals is just the beginning. Srikanth, the Bangalore-based cofounder and CEO of CA headquartered Fractal Analytics states: “In the next few years, the size of the analytics market will evolve to at least one-thirds of the global IT market from the current one-tenths”. Technology professionals who are experienced in Analytics are in high demand as organizations are looking for ways to exploit the power of Big Data. The number of job postings related to Analytics in Indeed and Dice has increased substantially over the last 12 months. Other job sites are showing similar patterns as well. This apparent surge is due to the increased number of organizations implementing Analytics and thereby looking for Analytics professionals. In a study by QuinStreet Inc., it was found that the trend of implementing Big Data Analytics is zooming and is considered to be a high priority among U.S. businesses. A majority of the organizations are in the process of implementing it or actively planning to add this feature within the next two years. 2. Huge Job Opportunities & Meeting the Skill Gap: The demand for Analytics skill is going up steadily but there is a huge deficit on the supply side. This is happening globally and is not restricted to any part of geography. In spite of Big Data Analytics being a ‘Hot’ job, there is still a large number of unfilled jobs across the globe due to shortage of required skill. A McKinsey Global Institute study states that the US will face a shortage of about 190,000 data scientists and 1.5 million managers and analysts who can understand and make decisions using Big Data by 2018. According to Srikanth, co-founder and CEO of Fractal Analytics, there are two types of talent deficits: Data Scientists, who can perform analytics and Analytics Consultant, who can understand and use data. The talent supply for these job title, especially Data Scientists is extremely scarce and the demand is huge. 3. Salary Aspects: Strong demand for Data Analytics skills is boosting the wages for qualified professionals and making Big Data pay big bucks for the right skill. This phenomenon is being seen globally where countries like Australia and the U.K are witnessing this ‘Moolah Marathon’.
