BCG Matrix |Strategic Management|Techniques Of Portfolio Analysis|CA Inter May 2019 exams with example In-depth explanation of BCG Growth Share Matrix with example. In this videp BCG concept is explained with case study and corporate example. Exaplanation in hindi and english with examples and best for Strategic Management for CA Inter and other management courses. This video consists of the following: Techniques or Methods of Portfolio Analysis 1. Boston Consulting Group (BCG) Growth-Share Matrix 2. Ansoff’s Product Market Growth Matrix 3. ADL Matrix 4. General Electric Matrix [“Stop-Light” Strategy Model] 1. BCG Growth Matrix The BCG growth-share matrix is the simplest way to portray a company portfolio of investments. Growth share matrix also known cow and dog metaphors matrix for resource allocation in a diversified company. BCG is a two-dimensional growth share matrix. Using the matrix organization can identify four different type of product or SBU as following STARS CASH COWS QUESTION MARKS DOGS The four strategies that can be pursued in BCG Matrix are: 1. Build 2. Hold 3. Harvest 4. Divest STARS Stars are the combination of relative market share high and market growth rate high. Stars are products or SBUs that are growing rapidly. They also need heavy investment to maintain their position and finance their rapid growth potential. They represent best opportunities for expansion. CASH COWS This is the combination of high relative market share but low growth rate. Cash Cows are low-growth, high market share businesses or products. They generate cash and have low maintenance costs. They are established, successful, and need less investment to maintain their market share. In long run when the growth rate slows down, stars become cash cows. QUESTION MARKS This is the combination of low relative market share but high growth rate. Question marks, sometimes called problem children or wildcats They require a lot of cash to hold their share. They need heavy investments with low potential to generate cash. Question marks, if left unattended, are capable of becoming cash traps. Since growth rate is high, increasing, it should be relative leaser. It is for business organisations to turn them stars and then to cash cows when the growth rate reduces. DOGS This is the combination low relative market share and low growth rate. Dogs are low-growth share, low-share businesses and products. They may generate enough cash to maintain themselves, but do not have much future. Sometimes they may need cash to survive. Dogs holdermust minimized by means of divestment or liquidation. After a firm, has classified its products or SBUs, it must determine what role each will play in the future. It is conceptually similar to BCG analysis, but somewhat more complicated. Like in BCG analysis, a two-dimensional portfolio matrix is created. However, with the GE model the dimensions are multi factoral. One dimension comprises nine industry attractiveness measures; the other comprises twelve internal business strength measures. The GE matrix helps a strategic business unit evaluate its overall strength. Each product, brand, service, or potential product is mapped in this industry attractiveness/business strength space. The GE multi factoral was first developed by McKinsey for General Electric in the 1970s. Share, Support, Subscribe!!! BCG Matrix means Boston Consulting Group Matrix. It is also known as Growth-Share Matrix or, the product portfolio or, Boston matrix or portfolio diagram. BCG Matrix is a chart; created by Bruce D. Henderson for the Boston Consulting Group in 1970 to help corporations analyze their business units, that is, their product lines. To develop the matrix, it takes into account the market growth rate and relative market share of the business unit or the product line. Based on this, a product can be classified into one of four categories - Cash Cow, Star, Question Mark or Problem Child and Dog. "To be successful, a company should have a portfolio of products with different growth rates and different market shares. The portfolio composition is a function of the balance between cash flows. High growth products require cash inputs to grow. Low growth products should generate excess cash. Both kinds are needed simultaneously." -Bruce D. All the rules must be met in order for him to purchase shares of a company. Those four rules are the following: Rule 1: A stock must be stable and understandable Rule 2: A Stock must have long term prospects Rule 3: A Stock must be managed by vigilant leaders Rule 4: A Stock must be undervalued We also learned a very basic valuation technique that Warren Buffett used when he worked for Benjamin Graham. The technique multiplies the P/E ratio by the P/BV ratio and the result needs to be lower than 22.5. A key fundamental of Warren Buffett stock basics is the idea that the stock market is nothing more than a location where he can buy or sell his shares. The market only provides a platform for him to purchase undervalued companies. He always buys on the assumption that they stock market could close tomorrow and not open for five years ñ and it would have no impact on his decision to buy a particular company. Finally, we learned that Warren Buffett possess great patience. He never tries to make enormous gains, but instead consistent gains at reasonable levels. He always thinks for himself and always determines the value of a stock based on what HE thinks a company is worth - not the market.

Many a times, we have seen executives who start tackling this objective with a great deal of energy and enthusiasm, only to exert effort without first realising what the task in hand really necessitates. The net result being not quite what one might have hoped for, possibly because of the lack of awareness about the kind of tools that may be needed for the job. This webinar heads a series that specifically deals with the variety of tools that are made available when it comes to analysing processes in order to attempt achieving improvement. The first webinar in this series takes an overview of the various tools and techniques, highlighting some of the most versatile and useful ones. Subsequent webinars in this series shall home in deeper on a selection of tools any process excellence leader should be acquainted with. The basics of portfolio risk management is the art of attaining a specific investment goal without exposing yourself to certain risks and biases. Here, I introduce you to the basic steps of portfolio risk management. I hope that you’ll learn something new here, instead of the usual “invest in low-volatility, blue-chip stocks” http://damonverial.com/ One of the biggest risks of a portfolio is the hidden biases you were exposed to when you were building your portfolio. Here, I demonstrate a set of practical principles for basic risk management. I start with three main principles and then introduce practical methods that stem from these principles. First, we discuss diversifying across investments. Then, we talk about hedging (with stock options). Finally, we discuss diversifying across time, which is hardly ever mentioned in diversifying your portfolio. #portfolioriskmanagement

Video shows how schedule risk analysis is performed in RiskyProject project risk management and risk analysis software. Monte Carlo simulations require inputs to perform the analysis: duration estimates and statistical distributions. In this video, we describe what a statistical distribution for schedules is and use a real life example to gather the distribution data and describe them using frequency histograms and cumulative probability plots. Finally, we use the data we generated from this real life example, to create a risk analysis model in the software and run a Monte Carlo simulation. Strategic portfolio management differs greatly from "operational" portfolio management. It concentrates on selecting the best projects to develop, prioritizing allocation of resources, and on producing the highest possible economic value throughout the development process. Decision making is complicated by risks and uncertainty around technical, timing, cost and commercialization. Stemming from decision analysis, coupled with the need to cope with the real world, processes and tools have steadily developed to support quality decision making around R&D, New Product Development and Innovation strategic portfolio management. This video takes you through the basics steps to run a basic Monte Carlo schedule risk analysis in RiskyProject. RiskyProject is project risk management and project schedule risk analysis by Intaver Institute Inc. Taking a basic schedule of five activities, we show how we add low and high estimates to both a single and a group of activities and then select a statistical distribution, in this case triangular. Once the risk model of the project schedule is set up, we show how to run the simulation. When the simulation is complete, the basic histograms and cumulative probability. Finally, we take a quick look at the sensitivity analysis, which is visualized as a Tornado chart that shows which activities and their parameters (duration, finish time) to which the project is most sensitive. BCG Matrix means Boston Consulting Group Matrix. It is also known as Growth Share Matrix or, the product portfolio or, Boston matrix or portfolio diagram. BCG Matrix is a chart; created by Bruce D. Henderson for the Boston Consulting Group in 1970 to help corporations analyze their business units, that is, their product lines. To develop the matrix, it takes into account the market growth rate and relative market share of the business unit or the product line.Based on this, a product can be classified into one of four categories - Cash Cow, Star, Question Mark or Problem Child and Dog. "To be successful, a company should have a portfolio of products with different growth rates and different market shares. The portfolio composition is a function of the balance between cash flows. High growth products require cash inputs to grow. Low growth products should generate excess cash. Both kinds are needed simultaneously." -Bruce D. I perform a PCA on a set of six MSCI indices. First, I go download the data and import it into R with readxl. Then I look at the data and the returns with some very basic techniques like plotting the performance with ggplot and tidyquant. Later I perform a PCA and also apply a varimax transformation on the loadings (the eigenvectors). Lastly, I look at how an equal-weighted portfolio performed versus a portfolio with components selected based on the PCA/varimax results. It's not fully as desired but (we want higher Sharpe ratio of course), but interesting nevertheless.
