A hedge fund is a collective investment scheme, often structured as a limited partnership, that invests private capital speculatively to maximize capital appreciation. About the book: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1118239245/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=1118239245&linkCode=as2&tag=tra0c7-20&linkId=a9e6a9474bc3d710513e0c3e533661f5 Hedge funds tend to invest in a diverse range of markets, investment instruments, and strategies; today the term "hedge fund" refers more to the structure of the investment vehicle than the investment techniques. Though they are privately owned and operated, hedge funds are subject to the regulatory restrictions of their respective countries. U.S. regulations, for example, limit hedge fund participation to certain classes of investors and also limit the total number of investors allowed in the fund. Hedge funds are often open-ended and allow additions or withdrawals by their investors. A hedge fund's value is calculated as a share of the fund's net asset value, meaning that increases and decreases in the value of the fund's investment assets (and fund expenses) are directly reflected in the amount an investor can later withdraw. Most hedge fund investment strategies aim to achieve a positive return on investment regardless of whether markets are rising or falling ("absolute return"). Hedge fund managers typically invest money of their own in the fund they manage, which serves to align their own interests with those of the investors in the fund. A hedge fund typically pays its investment manager an annual management fee, which is a percentage of the assets of the fund, and a performance fee if the fund's net asset value increases during the year. Some hedge funds have several billion dollars of assets under management (AUM). As of 2009, hedge funds represented 1.1% of the total funds and assets held by financial institutions. As of April 2012, the estimated size of the global hedge fund industry was US$2.13 trillion. Because hedge funds are not sold to the general public or retail investors, the funds and their managers have historically been exempt from some of the regulation that governs other funds and investment managers with regard to how the fund may be structured and how strategies and techniques are employed. Regulations passed in the United States and Europe after the 2008 credit crisis were intended to increase government oversight of hedge funds and eliminate certain regulatory gaps. During the US bull market of the 1920s, there were numerous private investment vehicles available to wealthy investors. Of that period, the best known today, is the Graham-Newman Partnership founded by Benjamin Graham and Jerry Newman which was cited by Warren Buffett, in a 2006 letter to the Museum of American Finance, as an early hedge fund. Financial journalist Alfred W. Jones is credited with coining the phrase "hedged fund" and is erroneously credited with creating the first hedge fund structure in 1949. Jones referred to his fund as being "hedged", a term then commonly used on Wall Street, to describe the management of investment risk due to changes in the financial markets. In 1968 there were almost 200 hedge funds, and the first fund of funds that utilized hedge funds were created in 1969 in Geneva. In the 1970s, hedge funds specialized in a single strategy, and most fund managers followed the long/short equity model. Many hedge funds closed during the recession of 1969--70 and the 1973--1974 stock market crash due to heavy losses. They received renewed attention in the late 1980s. During the 1990s, the number of hedge funds increased significantly, funded with wealth created during the 1990s stock market rise. The increased interest was due to the aligned-interest compensation structure (i.e. common financial interests) and the promise of above high returns. Over the next decade hedge fund strategies expanded to include: credit arbitrage, distressed debt, fixed income, quantitative, and multi-strategy. US institutional investors such as pension and endowment funds began allocating greater portions of their portfolios to hedge funds. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hedge_fund

Add me on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/aleksander.vitkin Watch the free training on how to build an online business here: http://www.vitkin.net In this video we are going to talk about how to go from an investor or trader to starting and running your own fund. You are going to find out how to get new clients, how to convince people to invest inside your fund. This video is for everyone who is managing and running an investment strategy and for any individual who is already having some sort of results on the market Marco started 8 years ago and is managing investor’s money since 2013. There are many people who can say that people are going to go to the big companies. If you don’t know why people should choose you instead of another one, then you should not be in that space at all. Pain is always greater than pleasure. We are being attracted to returns and making money, but in reality we make that decision based on the fact that we don’t want to lose money. We want to avoid the pain of losing money. Your goal has to be to keep the risk and the losses as low as possible. That is a huge advantage and unique selling point. A good marketing strategy is to have a direct contact with the manager. You want to be very calm and keep focusing on your process. You should not be influenced by doubts and emotions. You need to have a team and to be able to communicate in a very professional way. You need to have a clear agreement signed in the beginning. You have to set everything up before the contract begins. Otherwise, it is going to be a huge mess. There has to be a very honest and transparent communication with the client. Both sides must know what the scenario is going to be if something goes wrong. You need to have a proper structure inside your company to stop trading. Negotiations and agreements are really important in this field. This is a crucial factor to achieve success in this space. You are going to get a lot of complaints. It is a part of the game and you have to accept it and deal with that in the best possible way. There is a possibility that if something goes wrong, people will want to exit at the wrong moment and even want their money back. That is why it is essential to be confident in yourself and to be able to persuade your clients that you are doing what it takes to make a positive ROI. The more you are able to convince the investors, the more they will trust in your strategy and that you can deliver results by not putting too much risk. You need to be able to make your clients believe that collaborating with you is the right thing. Marco has an online funnel to get new clients. An essential part of his funnel is an online platform that shows his skills and expertise. The platform combined with a simple social media strategy is a key factor that helps Marco to build his business successfully. A good way is to have single investors to contact you directly. However, Marco wants to connect with people who are introducing investors. Most of the time if you have a very solid profile, you are going to be contacted by them. After that you can get them on a call, proceed with the sales process and close the sale. The main objection that Marco faces is that clients do not believe that his results are real. It’s normal for them to be suspicious and you should not be too arrogant and close the doors to them to take advantage of your service.

The top twenty-five hedge fund managers made $13 billion last year. Yet that doesn’t seem to be enough for some of them. Cenk Uygur, host of The Young Turks, breaks it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below. “The world’s top 25 hedge fund managers earned $13bn last year – more than the entire economies of Namibia, the Bahamas or Nicaragua. Kenneth Griffin, founder and chief executive of Citadel, and James Simons, founder and chairman of Renaissance Technologies, shared the top spot, taking home $1.7bn each – equivalent to the annual salaries of 112,000 people taking home the US federal minimum wage of $15,080. The earnings of the best-performing hedge fund managers, published by Institutional Investor’s Alpha magazine on Tuesday, dwarfs the pay of top Wall Street executives who have been under fire for their multimillion-dollar pay deals. The best paid banker last year was JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon, who collected $27m.” Read more here: https://www.theguardian.com/business/2016/may/10/hedge-fund-managers-salaries-billions-kenneth-griffin-james-simon Hosts: Cenk Uygur Cast: Cenk Uygur *** The Largest Online News Show in the World. Asset Management: Industry overview and Careers in Asset Management Asset Management is about managing clients’ investments and providing them with the strategies and expertise that would allow them to achieve their goals and secure their financial future. This video is part of our series dedicated to the different sub-industries in the world of Business & Finance. Our goal is to understand how it functions, what type of services it offers its clients, which are the major players in the field and what it is like to do this for a living. An individual or an institution is likely to approach an asset management firm when their investment income is substantial. In such cases, asset managers are able to offer expertise across a wide spectrum of asset classes (such as stocks, bonds, commodities, real estate, private equity, etc). Moreover, large firms have branches all over the world and are therefore able to offer geographical expertise as well. Given that asset managers closely follow all of these markets, they are able to offer high-quality advice and superior risk-return investments. The large players in the asset management industry are indeed very large. There are several companies whose assets under management exceed $1 trillion. Some of them are pure investment funds (BlackRock, Vanguard, StateStreet, Fidelity), while others are arms of the large banking conglomerates (Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank, UBS, BNP). The largest firm in the world in terms of assets under management in 2015 was BlackRock. How Do Hedge Funds Work? First, hedge funds are not currently regulated by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), a financial industry oversight entity, as mutual funds are. However, it appears that regulation for hedge funds may be coming soon. Second, as a result of being relatively unregulated, hedge funds can invest in a wider range of securities than mutual funds can. While many hedge funds do invest in traditional securities, such as stocks, bonds, commodities and real estate, they are best known for using more sophisticated (and risky) investments and techniques. He warned of a global economic collapse and there is no way for central banks to stimulate a recovery. He brought up some important points like potency of quantitative easing depreciating over the years. There's a lot of confusion about what a hedge fund actually is these days. Here's a short and basic explainer. I should add that's its not entirely correct to say that hedge funds are completely unregulated. They are subject to some rules, but they are much less regulated than most other investment types. With the end of 2018 marking the 40th anniversary of China opening up & reforming (and with an increasingly loud group of market participants questioning the foundations of China’s economic miracle - and more importantly, it's future), Bridgewater founder Ray Dalio believes now is a good time to reflect on China’s last 40 years. The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. is an American multinational investment banking firm that engages in global investment banking, securities, investment management, and other financial services primarily with institutional clients. Goldman Sachs was founded in 1869 and is headquartered at 200 West Street in the Lower Manhattan area of New York City, with additional offices in international financial centers. The firm provides mergers and acquisitions advice, underwriting services, asset management, and prime brokerage to its clients, which include corporations, governments and individuals. The firm also engages in market making and private equity deals, and is a primary dealer in the United States Treasury security market. It is recognized as one of the premier investment banks in the world, but has sparked a great deal of controversy over its alleged improper practices, especially since the 2007--2012 global financial crisis. Former Goldman executives who moved on to government positions include: Robert Rubin and Henry Paulson who served as United States Secretary of the Treasury under Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, respectively; Mario Draghi, President of the European Central Bank; Mark Carney, Governor of the Bank of Canada 2008--13 and Governor of the Bank of England from July 2013. As the name suggests, the firm's Asset Management and Securities Services segment is divided into two components: Asset Management and Securities Services. The Asset Management division provides investment advisory and financial planning services and offers investment products (primarily through separately managed accounts and commingled vehicles) across all major asset classes to a diverse group of institutions and individuals worldwide. The unit primarily generates revenues in the form of management and incentive fees. The Securities Services division provides clearing, financing, custody, securities lending, and reporting services to institutional clients, including hedge funds, mutual funds, and pension funds. The division generates revenues primarily in the form of interest rate spreads or fees. In 2009, the Goldman Sachs Asset Management hedge fund was the 9th largest in the United States, with $20.58 billion under management. This was down from $32.5 billion in 2007, after client redemptions and weaker investment performance. On September 14, 2011, Goldman Sachs stated it was shutting down the Global Alpha fund, once the firm's largest hedge fund. The announcement followed a reported decline in fund balances to less than $1.7 billion in June 2011 from $11 billion in 2007. The decline was caused by investors withdrawing from the fund following earlier substantial market losses. The firm said it expected most of the fund assets to be liquidated by mid-October 2011. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goldman_Sachs

Free Resources: https://bit.ly/2wymZbJ My pick for the best mutual fund with a 1-year return is the American Funds New Perspective Fund® Class F-1 which boasts a 1-year return of 28.78%. You can find this fund with the ticker symbol NPFFX. Now although future returns are all speculative, that is a phenomenal return for any short-term investor. Hypothetically that means that if you invest $2,500, which is the minimum to invest, today and sell out at the end of the year, you’ll have made $719.50. Now, this fund is of a moderate risk and has 319 holdings, the top 5 of which are Amazon, Facebook Inc. A, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co Ltd, Naspers Ltd Class N, and Microsoft Corporation. This fund is technically a world fund which is why you see such a diverse set of holdings. As mentioned earlier this fund is a 5-star fund and has no transaction fees. Alright, so my pick for the best 5-year fund is the Fidelity® 500 Index Fund — Institutional Premium Class which boasts a 5-year return of 15.78%. You can find this fund with the ticker symbol FXAIX. This fund has no minimum so hypothetically if you invest $2,500 today and sell out in 5 years, you’ll have made roughly $2,703.50 which I found using a custom Excel calculator that accounts for compound interest. Moving into my third pick which is for the mutual fund with the best 10-year return. The fund I pick for this category is the Fidelity® Nasdaq® Composite Index Fund which boasts a 10-year return of 11.09%. You can find this fund with the ticker symbol FNCMX. Similar to the first fund, this fund has a minimum of $2,500 so hypothetically if you invest $2,500 today and sell out in 10 years, you’ll have made roughly $7,156.32 which I again found using a custom Excel calculator that accounts for compound interest. This fund is of a moderate risk and consists of 2,196 holdings, the top 5 of which are Apple Inc., Microsoft Corp, Facebook Inc. A, Amazon Inc., and ALPHABET INC CL C. So I think we’re starting to see a trend here between the top holdings of these funds. As our world becomes more tech-driven, leading companies such as apple an Microsoft will continue to grow. Alright, my fourth pick which is for the best foreign mutual fund is the Fidelity® International Enhanced Index Fund which boasts one year return of 27.59%, a five-year return of 9.35%, and a ten-year return of 2.3%. Because of its weak 10 year return, I would consider this a short to mid-year hold which would be around 2 to 5 years. You can find this fund with the ticker symbol FIENX. Like most Fidelity funds, this fund has a minimum of $2,500 so hypothetically if you invest $2,500 today and sell out in 5 years, you’ll have made roughly $1,406.93. This fund is of a moderate risk and consists of 264 holdings, the top 5 of which are, excuse my pronunciation, NOVARTIS AG (REG), NESTLE SA (REG), ROCHE HLDGS AG (GENUSSCHEINE), TOTAL SA (FRAN), and BAYER AG. So it's nice to see some different holdings than the last funds but I’m sure you saw some familiar names there like Bayer and Nestle. Now the benefit to holding a foreign fund is that it’s less correlated with the US stock market. That means that during a recession, your foreign holdings may fair better than your US holdings. Okay, so my fifth and final pick which is for the best balanced mutual fund is the T. Rowe Price Personal Strategy Growth Fund which has one year return of 21.91%, a five-year return of 11.60%, and a ten-year return of 7.06%. Although a 10-year return of 7.06% is still decent, I would also recommend this as a medium-term hold. You can find this fund with the ticker symbol TRSGX. This fund has a minimum of $2,500 so hypothetically if you invest $2,500 today and sell out in 5 years, you’ll have made roughly $1,827.74. This fund is of a lower risk and consists of Cash, convertibles, domestic bonds, preferred stock, foreign bonds, foreign stock, domestic stock, and others, whatever that means. Because this is a balanced fund, it’s already diversified which makes it a lot easier for the investor. The reason I recommend this fund is because it has a lengthy history of excellent performance and it’s already diversified which makes it a nice holding during a recession. Thanks for watching and make sure to subscribe so that you don’t miss any future content. I’ll see you later. Warren Buffett famously advised his wife to just put her money into an index fund tracking the S&P 500 after his death. Index funds and Index ETFs simply follow an index rather than relying on a fund manager to pick stocks. However in India, investing in any of the 10 largest actively managed equity funds would have given you 1.5 times the return of the Nifty over the last five or even ten years. Many active funds have done even better. But how long can this sustain?

What is a Hedge Fund? Corvin Codirla, ex-hedge fund manager and independent traders comments. Do hedge get to have the best traders? What does a typical hedge fund manager earn? A hedge fund is a collected pool of money that is allowed to invest in instruments not usually accessible to normal individual with a low net-worth. So most retail traders will know about stocks and futures and maybe forex exchange - then you have slightly more complicated instruments like options but you can also go to the interbank realm of swaps and bond options and bond themselves - things that you either need a lot of capital or you need specialised techniques or connections to be able to trade. Pension funds which also manage people's money are normally restricted to what instruments they can trade but hedge funds don't have such limitations.

Their name comes from the fact that early hedge funds (and some current ones) tried to "hedge" their exposure to the market (so they could, in theory, do well in an "up" or "down" market as long as they were good at picking the good companies). Today, hedge funds represent a huge class investment funds. They are far less regulated than, say, mutual funds. In exchange for this, they aren't allowed to market or take investments from "unsophisticated" investors. Some use their flexibility to mitigate risk, other use it to amplify it. About Khan Academy: Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom. We tackle math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more. Our math missions guide learners from kindergarten to calculus using state-of-the-art, adaptive technology that identifies strengths and learning gaps.
