How to Have a Good Conversation

06:07
We too often imagine that ‘good conversations’ are things we fall into out of luck. Far from it, knowing how to have a good conversation is a skill that can be learnt – and here are the beginning of the rules. If you like our films, take a look at our shop (we ship worldwide): https://goo.gl/wubZTC Join our mailing list: http://bit.ly/2e0TQNJ Or visit us in person at our London HQ https://goo.gl/73KtT6 FURTHER READING “Having a decent conversation is something most of us imagine we can do without any problem – and certainly without much thought. These things just happen naturally. Don’t they? But in truth, truly good conversations come along very rarely; largely because our societies fall for the Romantic myth that knowing how to talk to other people is something we are born knowing how to do, rather than an art dependent on a little planning and a few skills. We rightly accept that total improvisation in preparing a meal is unlikely to yield good outcomes; but we show no such caution or modesty when it comes to how we might talk over the food once it has been made. Finding oneself in a good conversation can feel as haphazard and random as stumbling on a beautiful square in a foreign city at night – and realising one won’t reliably know how to get back there in daytime.” You can read more on this and other subjects on our blog, here: https://goo.gl/dSuY1L MORE SCHOOL OF LIFE Our website has classes, articles and products to help you think and grow: https://goo.gl/eJKlpu Watch more films on RELATIONSHIPS in our playlist: http://bit.ly/TSOLrelationships You can submit translations and transcripts on all of our videos here: https://www.youtube.com/timedtext_cs_panel?c=UC7IcJI8PUf5Z3zKxnZvTBog&tab=2 Find out how more here: https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/6054623?hl=en-GB SOCIAL MEDIA Feel free to follow us at the links below: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/theschooloflifelondon/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/TheSchoolOfLife Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theschooloflifelondon/ CREDITS Produced in collaboration with: Khyan Mansley https://www.youtube.com/user/Khyan1 https://twitter.com/khyan #TheSchoolOfLife

Finding Your Mission

Above and beyond having a job, what we really need to power our professional future is a sense of mission. A film that discusses what a mission is, and how we might find our own. If someone at a party asked you what you did, and you said you were involved on a mission of some kind, people would look at you sort of strangely. The meaning of life: What makes life worth living? | Frank Martela | TEDxHelsinkiUniversity

15:27
In this talk Frank Martela, who has published several academic articles on the topic, will tell you who invented the phrase 'meaning of life' in 1834, why the crisis in meaning started in 19th century, and where to find an answer to the question in our secular age. Frank Martela is a researcher at University of Helsinki focusing on meaning in life, compassion, prosocial behavior, well-being and human motivational psychology. He explores these themes through psychological methods and conceptual work, both within the context of social psychology and philosophy. Frank received his Ph.D in Applied Philosophy and Organizational Research from Aalto University after which he has worked at University of Rochester, USA before returning to Finland and University of Helsinki. Frank is a popular speaker and author having written several books for general audience. He is also one of the founders and current chairman of the board of Filosofian Akatemia Oy, a company that is specialized in measuring engagement and motivation at work, and consulting organizations on how to improve them. What Your Home Says About You...

05:09
One of our most basic psychological needs is to create a home, that is a space that is decorated in such a way as to reflect our values back to us. That's why we can legitimately get so excited (or distressed) by matters of home decoration - and why, after too long on the road, we long to get back to our own place. A film about the psychology of objects and spaces. Over a number of years, typically with a lot of thought and considerable dedication, we assemble furniture, crockery, pictures, rugs, cushions, vases, sideboards, taps, door handles and so on into a distinctive constellation we anoint with the word home. As we create our rooms, we engage passionately with culture in a way we seldom do in the supposedly higher realms of museums or galleries. We reflect profoundly on the atmosphere of a picture, we ponder the relationship between colours on a wall, we notice how consequential the shape of the back of a sofa can be and ask with care what books really deserve our ongoing attention…” You can read more on this and other subjects on our blog, here: https://goo.gl/8NCrU7 MORE SCHOOL OF LIFE Visit us in person at our London HQ: https://goo.gl/1CnN7q Watch more films on SELF in our playlist: http://bit.ly/TSOLself You can submit translations and transcripts on all of our videos here: https://www.youtube.com/timedtext_cs_panel?c=UC7IcJI8PUf5Z3zKxnZvTBog&tab=2 Find out how more here: https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/6054623?hl=en-GB SOCIAL MEDIA Feel free to follow us at the links below: Download our App: https://goo.gl/fGZTxE Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/theschooloflifelondon/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/TheSchoolOfLife Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theschooloflifelondon/ CREDITS Produced in collaboration with: Reece Wykes http://reecewykes.com/ Henry Richardson cargocollective.com/henryrichardson #TheSchoolOfLife

But the good news, and a fundamental truth too, is that no one is ever truly boring. The Purpose of Friendship

06:14
Our desire to build good and lasting friendships is often undermined by a lack of focus on what friendship should really be about. Getting clear about what friendship is for isn’t cynical; it provides the foundation for genuine bonds. If you like our films, take a look at our shop (we ship worldwide): https://goo.gl/CQTh1W Join our exclusive mailing list: http://bit.ly/2e0TQNJ Or visit us in person at our London HQ https://goo.gl/wSdLes FURTHER READING “Friendship should be one of the high points of existence, and yet it’s also the most routinely disappointing reality. Too often, you’re at supper at someone’s house: there’s an impressive spread and the hosts have evidently gone to a lot of trouble. But the conversation is meandering and devoid of real interest. It flits from an over-long description of the failings of the inflight service on a particular airline to a strangely heated discussion about the tax code. The intentions of the hosts are hugely touching, but (as so often) we go home wondering what on earth the whole performance was about…” You can read more on this and other topics on our blog TheBookofLife.org at this link: https://goo.gl/26Tzfx MORE SCHOOL OF LIFE Our website has classes, articles and products to help you think and grow: https://goo.gl/ffShft Watch more films on RELATIONSHIPS in our playlist: http://bit.ly/TSOLrelationships Do you speak a different language to English? Who We Can Love

PHILOSOPHY - Albert Camus

The only real question of philosophy is whether or not we should commit suicide, said Albert Camus. His thought was constantly rich and provocative (and he dressed unusually well). Why Clothes Matter

The clothes we choose to wear constitute some of our most crucial and carefully chosen lines of autobiography. Parents picked out a T-shirt; the school dictated what colour our trousers should be. But at some point, we were granted the opportunity to discover who we might be in the world of clothes. We had to decide for ourselves about collars and necklines, fit, colours, patterns, textures and what goes (or doesn’t) with what. We learnt to speak about ourselves in the language of garments. Despite the potential silliness and exaggeration of sections of the fashion industry, assembling a wardrobe is a serious and meaningful exercise." How to Make a Decision

06:23
Life constantly forces us to make very big and often very painful decisions. When we are next facing such a choice, here is a small exercise that could help us to know our own minds more clearly. For gifts and more from The School of Life, visit our online shop: https://goo.gl/at6c4Y Join our mailing list: http://bit.ly/2e0TQNJ Or visit us in person at our London HQ: https://goo.gl/MtpfLe FURTHER READING “A good life is the fruit of a succession of good decisions, especially around love and work. However, we seldom accord the business of decision-making the kind of careful attention it requires. When faced with a large decision, we lack rituals and procedures. We typically procrastinate, lean on the nearest person or rush headlong into an unexamined solution. Fortunately, decision-making is a skill and – like any other – it can be taught. The chief enemy of good decisions is a lack of sufficient perspectives on a problem. We should systematically think through any issue from six distinct angles: through the eyes of – variously – our Enemy, our Gut, Death, Caution, Courage and our Parents. As we try out, juggle with and then synthesise these oblique perspectives, we will feel our sense of possibility expand – and a tolerable way forward gradually emerge from the present confusion…” You can read more on this and other subjects on our blog, here: https://goo.gl/MizVUb MORE SCHOOL OF LIFE Our website has classes, articles and products to help you think and grow: https://goo.gl/onuLBQ Watch more films on SELF in our playlist: http://bit.ly/TSOLself You can submit translations and transcripts on all of our videos here: https://www.youtube.com/timedtext_cs_panel?c=UC7IcJI8PUf5Z3zKxnZvTBog&tab=2 Find out how more here: https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/6054623?hl=en-GB SOCIAL MEDIA Feel free to follow us at the links below: Download our App: https://www.theschooloflife.com/london/app/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/theschooloflifelondon/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/TheSchoolOfLife Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theschooloflifelondon/ CREDITS Produced in collaboration with: Diyala Muir http://diyalamuir.com https://vimeo.com/diymuir #TheSchoolOfLife

EASTERN PHILOSOPHY - The Buddha

05:44
The Buddha's philosophy teaches us that our desires are at the root of our restlessness - and that calm can be achieved through willpower and spiritual exercise. If you like our films, take a look at our full shop too: https://goo.gl/aGTlez FURTHER READING “The story of the Buddha’s life, like all of Buddhism, is a story about confronting suffering. He was born between the sixth and fourth century B.C., the son of a wealthy king in the Himalayan foothills of Nepal. It was prophesied that the young Buddha — then called Siddhartha Gautama — would either become the emperor of India or a very holy man. Since Siddhartha’s father desperately wanted him to be the former, he kept the child isolated in a palace with every imaginable luxury: jewels, servants, lotus ponds, even beautiful dancing women…” You can read more on this and many other topics on our blog TheBookofLife.org: https://goo.gl/mwCD2u MORE SCHOOL OF LIFE Our website has classes, articles and products to help you think and grow: https://goo.gl/u6CT7k More films on SELF in our playlist below: http://bit.ly/TSOLself Do you speak a different language to English? 7 Greatest Conversation Starters That Actually Work

Being a great conversationalist can be challenging. I have struggled with it myself prior to meeting Dorian, and the absolute hardest part and often overlooked is the way to get INTO a conversation in the first place. So I asked Dorian (the best conversationalist I've ever met) to join me to do a video about the 7 greatest conversation starters that actually work - which have been battle-tested by myself and Dorian for years now. What drives me nuts about the other advice I see in articles and videos is that you'd never walk up to someone out of the blue and ask some stupid question like: "What's happening?" - you already know exactly what's happening 'cus you're at the same f#$ckin place! I can't stand to see advice like this because I have struggled with how to start conversations myself and those type of small talk tips and tricks are the furthest from helpful. http://awest.me/7starters for a companion article to this video. http://AshleyWeston.com for more about me, what I do as a Celebrity Menswear Stylist, and other men's lifestyle related articles and videos. __________________________________ FREE MEN'S STYLE EBOOKS To download my free ebooks click here → http://awest.me/ebooks __________________________________ SOCIAL MEDIA ● Instagram → http://instagram.com/ashleypweston ● Snapchat → https://www.snapchat.com/add/ashleypweston ● Twitter → http://twitter.com/ashleypweston ● Facebook → http://facebook.com/ashleywestonstylist ● Pinterest → https://www.pinterest.com/ashleypweston __________________________________ HAVE QUESTIONS? How To Succeed In Life - The 6 Key Elements of Phenomenal Success

14:23
How To Succeed In Life - Learn the absolute essential elements of creating a successful life. The ultimate success formula. The Ultimate Life Purpose Course - Create Your Dream Career: http://www.actualized.org/life-purpose-course Leo's Top 140 Self Help Books http://www.actualized.org/books Full Video Transcript Here: http://www.actualized.org/articles/how-to-succeed-in-life Video Summary: Hey, this is Leo for Actualized.org. I'm going to tell you how to succeed in life. This is my forte. What I love to study is success and I'm going to give you about six or seven tips that are just the fundamentals of what it takes to create a really successful life. Get ready because it's going to be a really powerful and quick self-help segment. I go into more depth in other videos. Discover Yourself You have to have a deep understanding of who you really are in life to have long-term sustainable success, and both happiness and then fulfillment. For me, success is shallow if it doesn't come with the happiness and fulfillment component. I want to get all of it -- both the external success and then the lasting fulfillment and happiness that you can get with that. I don't want just shallow, external success. To do that, you need to really understand and discover who you are. You might be thinking, "Well, I know who I am." No, you don't. I would say that 99 percent of people do not really know who they are because they have not gone on the journey that it takes to discover that. This is not some abstract notion. What I'm talking about here is that you really need to discover what your top 10 values are. You need to discover what your top five feelings are in life. You need to discover what it is that you really want out of life and what is meaningful to you. You also have to discover what you don't want. You might say, "Well, I know what I don't want. I know the things that I don't like." There might not be as much clarity there as you think there is. This is all about a matter of clarity and articulation. It's one thing to know vaguely, but it's a totally different thing to actually articulate it, write it down, and know it very consciously. That's going to clear a lot of things up for you. If you sit down and do this process, you're going to quickly realize that you don't know as much about yourself as you think you do. You probably have had moments in your life that have been epiphanies where you've had deep self-discovery. Maybe it was when you were traveling. Maybe it was after a breakup in a relationship. Maybe it was when you were struggling at work. You discover things about yourself. By going through these challenging experiences, we really discover what it is that we want out of life. That's the foundation. Successful people know what they want. Have a Life Purpose Life purpose is a very deep topic that I cover in other videos, but here, what I'm going to say about it are the fundamentals. Life purpose is what you want to accomplish in your life. What's true for all successful people is that all of their actions on a day-to-day basis, a weekly basis, a monthly basis, and a yearly basis are leading towards some sort of point. They're all converging towards something. They know what that convergent point is. For them, the convergence point is, first of all, outside of themselves. It's not so much about them, but rather something else -- something bigger than them. It's about a sense of contribution. Again, I don't mean contribution in the sense that you have to be super altruistic and not care about yourself. It's contribution in the sense that you get a lot of enjoyment from contributing something positive to the world. So, the question is -- "What is the impact that you want to have?" Are you clear on that? Are you totally committed to having that impact? This could be impact in your family. This could be impact in starting the kind of business that you want to start and having that business have a certain impact on society, whether it's helping people in Africa get more water or helping produce green energy or helping people find love through creating an online dating site. It doesn't matter what it is.

I also talk about how the Baha'is in Iran and Yemen are being persecuted for their beliefs. This is wrong and needs to stop immediately. Next, I talk about Baha'u'llah's 200-year anniversary of His birthday is approaching and how we need to find opportunities to talk to people about His sacred mission and His life. Why He came to this world in this day-in-age, what is He trying to accomplish for humanity? His long-suffering and life's example are topics that we can all talk about and invite those receptive to His message to join us in our devotionals and gatherings to celebrate His birthday on October of 2017. 16 FAMOUS LOGOS WITH A HIDDEN MEANING (That We Never Even Noticed)

06:33
How to design a successful logo? How to build a famous brand for your business? Some of the most well-known logos in the world were purposefully designed to indicate something much more than simple beauty. In fact, it seems that in some cases, every line, curve, and color has meaning behind it. Adidas, Apple, BMW, Coca-Cola, Toyota… We see these famous brands everywhere but never consider what their logos exactly mean. Curious to know the secret? Watch the 16 famous logos with a hidden meaning you've never noticed. #logomeaning #logosecret # Hyundai 0:33 The letter ’Н’ symbolizes two people – a client and a representative of the company – shaking hands. Adidas 0:52 The current logo is three stripes at an angle which together form a triangle. This symbolizes a mountain, which in turn represents the challenges that all sportsmen have to overcome day after day. Apple 1:21 Rob Janoff, the designer who came up with the world-famous Apple company logo, explained his idea in one of his interviews. He bought a bag of apples, placed them in a bowl, and spent time drawing them for a week, trying to break the image down into something simple. Vaio 1:58 The first two letters of the Vaio logo symbolize an analogue wave. The last two are similar to the numbers 1 and 0 — that is, symbols of a digital signal. Amazon 2:14 The orange arrow is similar to a smile because the company wants its customers to be satisfied. The arrow is also stretched between the letters ’A’ and ’Z’, in a hint that the company sells absolutely every product you can imagine. Baskin Robbins 2:40 The pink-colored parts of the "BR" section make up the number 31, which is how many ice cream flavors Baskin Robbins used to famously sell. Toyota 2:56 The logo represents a stylized image of a needle eye with a thread passing through it. This is a hint at the company’s past – they used to produce weaving machines. Continental 3:28 Continental, a famous car tire producer, has a logo in which the first two letters depict a car wheel. Formula 1 3:41 If you look carefully at the white space between the letter ’F’ and the red stripes, you can see the number 1. Pinterest 3:59 On Pinterest, people collect images they like from across the Internet and ’pin’ them to their online boards. That’s why the image of a pin is hidden in the letter P. Beats 4:17 Beats, an audio equipment producer based in the USA, uses a logo in which the letter ’B’ looks like headphones on a person’s head. Toblerone 4:32 The famous chocolate company based in Bern, Switzerland, has a silhouette of a bear in its logo. That's because Bern is sometimes called a city of bears. BMW 4:55 The logo is simply a part of the Bavarian flag, the area of Germany where the company originated. LG 5:18 The logo is a stylized image of a person’s face. According to the company, this represents its aspiration to have human relations with their customers. Evernote 5:34 The corner of the elephant’s ear is folded over in a similar way how people fold the corner of a page to make notes. Coca-Cola 5:57 In the space between the letters ’O’ and ’L’, you can see the Danish flag. It’s purely a coincidence. Nevertheless, Coca-Cola has used this as part of its marketing campaigns in the Scandinavian country. If you’ve enjoyed this video, hit that thumbs up button! Alan Watts - What is the Meaning of Life & Everything Else?? [FULL LECTURE,1960]

21:41
Thanks again for the art for this, c. walzer ! Alan Wilson Watts (6 January 1915 – 16 November 1973) was a British-born philosopher, writer, and speaker, best known as an interpreter and populariser of Eastern philosophy for a Western audience. Born in Chislehurst, England, he moved to the United States in 1938 and began Zen training in New York. Pursuing a career, he attended Seabury-Western Theological Seminary, where he received a master's degree in theology. Watts became an Episcopal priest in 1945, then left the ministry in 1950 and moved to California, where he joined the faculty of the American Academy of Asian Studies. Watts gained a large following in the San Francisco Bay Area while working as a volunteer programmer at KPFA, a Pacifica Radio station in Berkeley. Watts wrote more than 25 books and articles on subjects important to Eastern and Western religion, introducing the then-burgeoning youth culture to The Way of Zen (1957), one of the first bestselling books on Buddhism. In Psychotherapy East and West (1961), Watts proposed that Buddhism could be thought of as a form of psychotherapy and not a religion. He also explored human consciousness, in the essay "The New Alchemy" (1958), and in the book The Joyous Cosmology (1962). Towards the end of his life, he divided his time between a houseboat in Sausalito and a cabin on Mount Tamalpais. His legacy has been kept alive by his son, Mark Watts, and many of his recorded talks and lectures are available on the Internet. According to the critic Erik Davis, his "writings and recorded talks still shimmer with a profound and galvanizing lucidity."

GRAMMAR IN MOTION - ZERO ARTICLE

01:15
Grasping bare essentials (or the essence of things) with the zero article: "life", "beauty", "silence"... Grammar in Motion was designed to present English Grammar through a combination of visuo-kinetic imagery (KineGrams) and metaphorical descriptions (LogoGrams) of abstract phenomena. The original DVD comes free with the French edition of LA GRAMMAIRE ANGLAISE EN MOUVEMENT, Paris: Hachette, 2005. Students and teachers in public education are welcome to download and use a sample of the videos posted on Youtube in instructional or research settings, for non-commercial purposes. We advise you to make screencaptures of meaningful stances / moves that may encapsulate aspects of grammatical meaning. Powerful visual concepts may thus be created. Your comments and suggestions are welcome and may be addressed directly to the author (Pr. Jean-Rémi LAPAIRE, Universite Bordeaux-Montaigne, France).

10 Famous Songs With MISUNDERSTOOD Meanings. Subscribe: https://goo.gl/Hnoaw3 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Other Videos you might like: 10 Hidden Subliminal Messages in Popular Songs https://youtu.be/p5vlLPMVK7k 10 Shocking Adult Jokes In Disney Movies https://youtu.be/TkQIY3Ugotk 10 Most Inappropriate Games You Played As A Kid https://youtu.be/Paf8jn9hBtQ Description: If there is anything life has taught us, it’s that music is the cure to (almost) everything. From love songs, inspirational lyrics to dance hits – there are plenty of meanings that you may have missed when hearing them for the first time, or even on repeat. You will find that even your role models have experienced the darkest of moments, thus relying on expressing themselves through songwriting. Often times our own interpretations may have been overlooked by the immense struggle a singer may have felt; but knowing that beyond the surface of sound is a hidden truth, is what makes music even more meaningful. Music is the very essence of our being, allowing us to create self-expression without limitation. Often times, we may not really think about what we are listening to; however when we do, it gives a sense of knowledge and appreciation for what we’re experiencing at that very moment. This art form has pushed many people to their limits, including the ones that we may hear about all the time today. The struggles that they bear, may not always been shown in the limelight; for even celebrities would like to maintain a private life, not for the mysterious allure, but rather for their health, loved ones or even sanity. However, you can find bits of their lives in the songs they create, reminding us all, that perhaps they aren’t only doing this for the fame and fortune; but also for the love of art. The time and effort that goes into these songs, are certainly a better way to divulge into their lives as opposed to the intrusive behavior belonging to the tabloids, paparazzi and assumptions constantly built about their lives. This article is catered to discuss their meanings, straight out of the words of these artists, giving you a clearer and deeper perspective for their creative process, circumstance or even context of the tune! May this clarity provide you with a new profound respect for most of the artists mentioned, as they live through situations that we once have felt, or are currently a part of. Thus, prior to reading each of these hand-picked entries with interesting facts, keeping an open mind to what the lyrics are saying versus what they actually mean could be two completely different things. Although you may choose to interpret a song as one would like to, now is your chance to get into the deeper meaning of their lives. From your favorite artists from Sia, Beyonce, Ed Sheeran, Hozier and many others come together in this one piece to inspire, inform and provide you with the meaning of music - not only intended for singing and dancing. Take a look and listen to the representation behind these mentioned songs, as these trivial takeaways could inspire you to write your own music one day! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Our Social Media: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheTalko Twitter: https://twitter.com/thetalko Instagram: https://instagram.com/the_talko ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For more videos and articles visit: http://www.thetalko.com/

How Will You Measure Your Life? Clay Christensen at TEDxBoston

19:31
"It's actually really important that you succeed at what you're succeeding at, but that isn't going to be the measure of your life." Too often, we measure success in life against the progress we make in our careers. But how can we ensure we're not straying from our values as humans along the way? Clayton Christensen, Harvard Business School professor and world-renowned innovation guru, examines the daily decisions that define our lives and encourages all of us to think about what is truly important. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Caregiving is often arduous and burdensome. At times it can be heartbreaking. But the ordinary acts we perform each day can bring meaning and purpose to our lives. The Frightened, Angry, Anxious, Mean Dementia Patient It is my belief that we are all searching for meaning in our lives. I can think of few things as meaningful as caring for someone who needs us so much. Article - Alzheimer's Care - "The Power of Purpose in Our Lives" If allow yourself to think and feel, if you open your mind, you might come to the realization that these many arduous tasks we perform are not only necessary, they give a higher quality of life to the person for whom we are caring. I remember when I first wrote candidly here in the Alzheimer's Reading Room about giving my mother a shower. Many were surprised. Most men commented that they didn't know if they could do it. Topic - How to get an Alzheimer's Patient to Shower For me, it was a necessary act of kindness and love. It was an important act because good hygiene is a necessary act of good health. When I finished washing my mother's hair and giving her a shower she looked squeaky clean. Have you heard the saying - "cleanliness is next to Godliness". I did a good job. My mom seemed happier. This was easy for me to understand. I often feel good, and happy, after giving myself a good cleaning. Don't you? Don't you feel better? I wrote here candidly about the dreaded bowel movement. It included the fact that I had to clean up poop. You might think I was horrified, many assumed I was. I was not. For me, it was a necessary act of caring. An act of love and kindness. You can read about it here - Article - Alzheimer's and the Dreaded Bowel Movement I recently read on Facebook about a women who was finding it very difficult to wipe her mom. She wanted to teach her mom who was living with dementia how to wipe her own butt. She thought it would bring dignity to her mom. I agree. But, did she realize that this ordinary act of caring was necessary. Perhaps it would have helped if she thought about the fact that she was keeping her mother free of rashes, sores, and infection by doing the wiping. I had this problem with my mom and she did get a rash and sore. This can be life threatening to a person living with Alzheimer's. We do what we have to do. Article - "An Undetected Urinary Tract Infection Can Kill an Alzheimer's Patient" She was performing a necessary act of kindness and love. She is a very loving daughter. Caring is an act of love and kindness. Let me emphasize this. "Caring is an act of love and kindness" For these reasons alone we are operating at a very high "station in life". For those who doubt their own great accomplishment each day I ask, "if not you, who would do it". I believe we are called to care. Continue reading - http://bit.ly/1MillJB

As strongly as I feel about any issue, I understand the opposition. But there is an exception: the death penalty for murder. Here, the gulf is unbridgeable between those of us who believe that some murderers – and I emphasize some murderers – should be put to death and those who believe that no murderer should ever be put to death. Take this example: On the afternoon of July 23, 2007, in the town of Cheshire, Connecticut, two men broke into the home of Dr. William Petit, his wife Jennifer and his two daughters. The men beat Dr. Petit nearly to death with a baseball bat; one of the men raped the doctor’s wife; and the other man sexually assaulted their 11 year-old daughter, Michaela. The two men then strangled Mrs. Petit to death, tied down the two daughters on beds, doused them with gasoline, and, while the girls were still alive, set the house on fire. Dr. Petit survived, but his wife and daughters did not. Those opposed to capital punishment believe that these two men have a right to keep their lives. So, is there anything a person can do to deserve the death penalty? To those opposed to capital punishment, the answer is no. In fact, many opponents of capital punishment believe that killing murderers is the same as murder. You heard me right – most opponents equate the murder of an innocent family with putting the murderers of that family to death. Opponents of capital punishment also argue that keeping all murderers alive sanctifies the value of human life. But the opposite is true. Keeping every murderer alive cheapens human life because it belittles murder. That’s easily proven. Imagine that the punishment for murder were the same as the punishment for driving over the speed limit. Wouldn’t that belittle murder and thereby cheapen human life? Of course, it would. Society teaches how bad an action is by the punishment it metes out. And what about the pain inflicted on the loved ones of those murdered? For most people, their suffering is immeasurably increased knowing that the person who murdered their family member or friend – and who, in many cases, inflicted unimaginable terror on that person – is alive and being cared for. Of course, putting the murderer to death doesn’t bring back their loved one, but it sure does provide some sense of justice. That’s why Dr. Petit, a physician whose life is devoted to saving lives, wants the murderers of his wife and daughters put to death. In his words, death "is really the only true just punishment for certain heinous and depraved murders." Is the doctor wrong? Is he immoral? Well, if you think capital punishment is immoral, then Dr. Petit is immoral. And what about opponents’ argument that an innocent person may be executed? This argument may be sincerely held, but it’s not honest. Why? Because opponents of capital punishment oppose the death penalty even when there is absolute proof of the murderer’s guilt. If there were a video of a man burning a family alive, opponents of capital punishment would still oppose taking that man’s life. How To Make Friends - 4 Sticking-Points That Limit Your Ability To Make Friends

17:28
How To Make Friends - How to go from having no friends, or bad friends, to have amazing friendships. The Ultimate Life Purpose Course - Create Your Dream Career: http://www.actualized.org/life-purpose-course Leo's Top 140 Self Help Books http://www.actualized.org/books Full Video Transcript Here: http://www.actualized.org/articles/how-to-make-friends Video Summary: Most of us make friends so easily that we take the ability for granted. What is the quality of your friendships? Are they deep connections or superficial acquaintances based in technology? Do you have as many friendships as you want? How many do you actually have time for? You can improve the quality or quantity of your friendships. Most people really don't have time for more than two to four quality friends. Decide how much time you're really willing to invest in your friendships. Focus on quality over quantity, the minimalist approach. If you appreciate the value of maintaining a friendship, you may realize you're willing to make it more of priority than you originally planned. Be open to developing friendships with people who aren't you twin. They will expand your ideas and your understanding of the world. If you find making or keeping friends difficult consider the four most common sticking points: not being social, lacking time and energy, ruining opportunities, and / or being painfully shy or fake in conversations. Lack of socializing is most often the problem. Rectifying that will often remedy any issues in the other three areas.
