An electrical grid is an interconnected network for delivering electricity from producers to consumers for example to run your electric griddle and other home appliances. It consists of generating stations that produce electrical power, high voltage transmission lines that carry powerfrom distant sources to demand centers, and distribution lines that connect individual customers
Power stations may be located near a fuel source, at a dam site, or to take advantage of renewable energy sources, and are often located away from heavily populated areas. They are usually quite large to take advantage of economies of scale. The electric power which is generated is stepped up to a higher voltage at which it connects to the electric power transmission network.
The bulk power transmission network will move the power long distances, sometimes across international boundaries, until it reaches its wholesale customer (usually the company that owns the local electric power distribution network).
On arrival at a substation, the power will be stepped down from a transmission level voltage to a distribution level voltage. As it exits the substation, it enters the distribution wiring. Finally, upon arrival at the service location, the power is stepped down again from the distribution voltage to the required service voltage(s).

FORMATION OF Y-BUS - ADVANTAGES
I-bus = Y-bus x V-bus ----- 01
I-bus is the vector of the injected bus current (i.e. external current sources)
Y-bus is the bus admittance matrix
The diagonal element of each node is the sum of the admittances connected to it. It is known a self-admittance matrix or driving point admittance.
The off-diagonal element is equal to the negative of the admittance between the nodes.
SPARSE MATRIX - The Y-bus is a sparse matrix. For a large power system, more than 90 % of off-diagonal elements are zero. This is due to the fact that in power system network networks each node (bus) is connected to not more than three nodes.
The voltages are measured with respect to ground. The equation 01 is called nodal current equation.
It is a vector equation consisting of n scalar equations.

hello welcome to this lesson in AC
circuit analysis.
the title of this
lesson is called reactive power with an
inductive load so we're going to talk
about the concept of reactive power here
and we're going to be talking about the
concept when that applies to having an
inductor inside of the load.
and the last
section we had just a resistive Network
just resistors and we talked to in great
detail about what's going on with the
power when we just have resistors so if
you haven't watched that section go back
and watch it and you to reacquaint
yourself what's happening with resistive
Network is we have an a nonzero average
we have an average amount of power
delivered to that resistor and the it's
it's oscillating the instantaneous power.
is oscillating up and down but it's
always positive and so there's always an
average value when you have a resistive
Network here we'll talk about what
happens we have inductive loads the next
section we'll talk about what happens we
have capacitive loads really excited to
teach this because up until now we talk
about resistors everyone can wrap your
brain around resistors right because
resistors are kind of the easiest thing
to understand circuits they obey Ohm's
law is equal to IR and you have some
kind of familiarity with with what's
going to happen when the sinusoids go up
and down and things are in phase you.
know the current the voltage are in
phase so it's kind of even though there
was a lot of math in the last section it
was very easy to follow i think if you
watch it enough times and study it
enough times what's really happening
with a resistor but when you have
inductors and when you have capacitor
suddenly the current and the voltage
across those things are no longer in
phase and things get a little bit murky
so we're going to take it slow
we're not doing problems are going to
theory for the next few sections and
when you get to your problems you'll
understand these terms you'll understand
what's really happening
so let's revisit this is what I call the
granddaddy power equation i'm going to
leave it on the board for very for a
great many sections its instantaneous
power so if you start the stopwatch and
time marches on this is the time
dependence here this is a constant term
these this is the time dependence you
stick in the numbers with your phase
angles for the current the voltage which
is going to be governed by your circuit
that you have and this is going to be
some kind of sinusoid overtime and it's
telling you that the instantaneous power
is always changing but we want to zero
in on the case when we have just an
inductive load what's going to happen
when there's just an end.
after inside the box last section we
talked about what happens when there's a
capacitor in the box now we're going to
talk about if the load is purely
inductive what happens and i can tell
you right now actually it's something
really cool that happens and I i find
this stuff really fascinated with
circuit analysis so this is some of the
reasons i'm really excited about
teaching it right the first thing you
need to remember there's very very few
things I tell you in circuit theory to
just remember right one of them's Ohm's
law is equal to IR right you have to
know that some of the real basic power
equations just memorize them what I'm
going to tell you here is something you
should just remember when you have a
purely inductive load all right
the current ok crossing through that
inductor lags the voltage by 90 degrees
exactly the current lags the voltage and
an inductor or across an inductor by
exactly 90 degrees current lags the
voltage by 90 degrees i'm going to show
you how to prove that to yourself but
just remember it because if you can just
remember it that these few little things
I tell you to remember it's going to
make your life so much easier
so let's go down here and write that
down and I'll explain what i'm talking
about the current lags the voltage by
I'm gonna put the word exactly 90
degrees and i'll give you a hint when we
get two capacitors it's also going to be
90 degrees but the current is not gonna
lag the voltage a capacitor the current
will lead the voltage by 90 degrees so
the 90 degrees part is going to be easy
to remember the leading versus the
lagging is what always confused me when.

2015 Network Analysis Short Course
- Systems Biology Analysis Methods for Genomic Data
This five full-day intensive course will cover network analysis methods widely used in systems biologic and systems genetic applications. The goal of the network analysis workshop is to familiarize researchers with network methods and software for integrating genomic data sets with complex phenotype data. Students will learn how to integrate disparate data sets (genetic variation, gene expression, epigenetic, protein interaction networks, complex phenotypes, gene ontology information) and use networks for identifying disease genes, pathways and key regulators. A companion Statistical Genetics Short Course will be held in August 2015.
Speaker Steve Horvath is a professor of human genetics and biostatistics at UCLA. His methodological research area lies at the intersection of biostatistics, bioinformatics, computational biology, cancer research, genetics, epidemiology, machine learning, and systems biology. My group applies these methods to study a broad spectrum of diseases, e.g. aging research, cancer, cardiovascular disease, HIV, Huntington's disease, neurodegenerative diseases.

Part 3 in the Troubleshooting Distributed Power Systems series by Steve Sandler, AEi Systems and Picotest. Vector network analyzers (VNAs) have always had measurement capabilities that looked like they would be particularly useful in assessing the performance of analog and power components and circuits. Unfortunately, the input range of these instruments did not extend low enough in frequency for many power and analog applications. However, two of the more recently introduced VNAs—Omicron Lab's Bode 100 and Agilent's E5061B—have changed this situation, making it possible for VNAs to measure the impedance of many types of power components and circuits as Sandler explains in this video. This video focuses on single-port measurements, describing how they can be applied to measure the impedance of low power circuits such as linear regulators, voltage references and op amps as well as semiconductors, capacitors, and inductors. Test set up requirements are discussed and example measurements are presented.

High-power RF components are typically characterized by using a linear or nonlinear vector network analyzer which has been modified to operate at high power levels. These test systems can be difficult to calibrate because they may include high-power pre-amps or large attenuators, resulting in compression and noise concerns. Before calibrating such a system it is prudent to review over-power limits and address test set stability issues. Three types of calibration are discussed: S-parameter, power, and relative phase. Techniques described for optimizing these calibrations include setting ideal power levels, noise reduction, adapter removal, de-embedding of test set modifications and a simplified power calibration sequence.
