"How do you start learning Japanese?" Is one common question I get on the Japan Guy blog. While I can't lie and claim to be a Japanese master (maybe someday), I do know that the Genki textbook series is pure gold.
Genki 1: An Integrated Course in Elementary Japanese was the book was the first Japanese textbook that I used to start doing Japanese self study. It's also the textbook that made a REAL, lasting difference for me.
In today's Genki 1 review (the first of many Japan Guy Reviews) we'll look at why I like it so much, as well as a couple of reasons I don't, etc.
If you've been confused about how to start learning Japanese or even the best way to learn Japanese this is in my opinion, one of the best places you can start!

Studying Japanese on your own?
I'm building a small, tight-knit community of people who want to improve their Japanese alongside me and have fun doing it!
GOAL: To not just learn for the sake of tests. I didn't start learning Japanese for the JLPT. I want to learn for my original purposes: to be able to understand more of the anime I watch, the manga I read, better comprehend the Japanese people I speak to, and to get a better understanding of the world around me.
