Student traveling to 40 countries in Europe during his 353 days exchange
2015 24th of August, I landed in Amsterdam Schiphol Airport to began my exchange studies in Maastricht University and started my first trip to Luxembourg in mid-September alone and had amazing experiences with other travelers who lived in the same hostel. I began to travel more afterwards. Even with intensive studies and enormous workloads, I still tried to travel during the weekends and long holidays. During the winter break of 2015, I traveled six weeks in Ireland, Scotland, down to Italy and the Balkan and went up to Abisko, Sweden. During my second semester, I had weekend / holiday trips to Portugal, UK, Italy, Denmark, Poland, Finland and the Baltic states. After finishing the last exchange semester in the beginning of June, I traveled again for ten weeks in Eastern Europe (Poland, Belarus, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia), Southern Europe (Turkey, Greece, Italy and Spain), and went up to Switzerland, Germany then back to Netherlands. I carpooled, hitchhiked, slept in airports, couchsurfer's home, budget hostels and in friend's kitchen. I made countless friends and hope this video could remind me of those crazy days in Europe - a place with many memories and stories. Meeting Our Exchange Student From Thailand
In this video we pick up and meet our exchange student from Thailand. Her name is Fong! We went the airport, and picked her up. We were all hungry so we went to get a bite to eat. When we got back home we gave a tour of the house and shared some gifts with each other. Fong loves playing guitar so she has been doing that for us as well! :) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Instagram: @visualsbycarter Snapchat: @visualsbycarter

Foreign Exchange Student's Opinion of America
Over the 2013-2014 school year I got to know one of my school's foreign exchange students from the Czech Republic. Matej was an awesome dude, and it was pretty cool getting to know someone who was literally from the other side of the world. Anyway, I thought it'd be cool to film an interview with him so I could see what he really thought of the US, so I did. Also, I made sure to film it on one of his last days in America so he would actually give his real opinions.

Study Abroad / Exchange Year - FAQ
For those who don't know, I was an exchange student at the University of Hong Kong and just got back from my year abroad. I had the time of my life in Hong Kong and could honestly talk about how much I recommend studying abroad for hours -tried so hard to cut this video short but it's still 9min ugh-. Many of you requested a video like this so I hope this helps for those who are interested! Blogpost: What You Will Gain From a Year Abroad: https://sussexstudents.wordpress.com/2016/03/23/what-you-will-gain-from-a-year-abroad/ Blogpost: How to Prepare to Study Abroad: https://sussexstudents.wordpress.com/2016/02/09/finding-home-away-from-home/ I forgot to address the question about how to finance a year abroad: in England you only pay 15% of your normal tuition fee for your year abroad. I believe this is how it works in all UK universities and think this is an amazing deal. You still have to pay for accommodation and living costs but you'd have to do this either way right? Since I went to Asia, things were generally cheaper than they are in Europe so it was quite affordable for me. However, there are plenty of scholarships and student loan schemes that you could check out if finance is still an issue. The best thing to do is probably to speak to someone at your school/uni since these things vary depending on what country you're in. Another missed question was about racism: I never experienced any sort of racism during my time in Hong Kong. In fact, I traveled to multiple other countries in Asia and did not ever come across any racial discrimination. Again, this is just my experience, I'm not saying there aren't any racists in Asia^^ Find more of my year abroad here: instagram: http://instagram.com/kyufleck facebook: https://www.facebook.com/kyufleck twitter: https://twitter.com/kyufleck

ABOUT THIS ADVENTURE FILM: IN this video I am here to talk about my entire experience studying abroad in Florence, Italy, where I lived for 5 months. I previously made a video about what it was like to live in my car for 6 weeks, and now I am back to talk about Europe. Overall I touch on points of letting go of fear and embracing new cultures and experiences. I talk about the hardships, the ups, the downs, and what made it worth it overall. I think traveling is a very important experience to enrich one's life, and I think study abroad is a great way to help actualize those dreams into a reality, especially in a place like Europe. That being said, it was definitely not all easy and a great time, it was a very difficult period of time in my life, and it forced me to adapt and grow, which I am very thankful for. Make sure to follow my other socials and comment any questions down below! Much love y'all.

Student exchange after the Earthquake -- Charity Bazaar & Fundraising for Japan!
As the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear crisis unfolded, Okaasan (host mother) and her volunteer group quickly came together to raise money through donations and a Charity Bazaar event where items donated by the local community were sold. Exchange students had limited opportunities to help out, and some were even pulled out of Japan by their home schools and Governments. So my friends and I were really glad that we could take part in these events and give back to the country that was giving us such a great exchange experience, and to a place we were all calling home for that semester.

HI USA Hosts the IOU Respect International Exchange Program
HI USA participates in Hostelling International's IOU Respect program, which is an annual two-week international exchange program for youth ages 18-23 from Western and Arab countries. The program is an intensive educational experience designed to increase intercultural understanding and bridge cultural divides between young people from Egypt, Germany, France, Morocco, Tunisia, and the United States. The six partner hostelling associations from these countries take turns hosting IOU Respect. In July of 2012, HI-USA hosted the program at HI-Chicago. Through a series of engaging, fun, and challenging workshops as well as time spent exploring Chicago together, participants built meaningful friendships while gaining intercultural communication skills and learning to approach the world and its people with open minds.
