This project will take place in Mělník (Czech republic). This project is preapared for young people who are interested not only in the Second World War, but also in European awareness. This project should help us to know other nations, their culture, habits, etc. Countries which will participate this project are Czech republic, Hungary, Germany, Poland, France, United Kingdom, Italy and Slovakia. The main topic will be the Second World War, where we will talk about our national points of view on this incident. We will go to Terezín (a town in Czech republic where was a concentration camp), to museums in Prauge, etc. It would be interesting to know how other nations see this bad moment which happened. This project should make european tolerance stronger. We would like to show that ALL MEN ARE EQUAL. At the end we will make some posters or something like that, these posters will look like countries (every group will make their own country), and in these posters there will be written dates, facts and surprising events that happend in their country during the 2WW. These posters will be used as an exhibition of our work, probably it will be exhibited in primary around Mělník nad Prague, and there will be the possibility to make exhibition even in partner countries.

Spanning two days and comprised of different programs, the event outlined for the benefit of the campus community as a whole. Events ranging from the showcase of different traditional foods from different countries and exhibition of the cultural uniqueness of various states to mobility sharing session and essay writing competition. These programs are all geared towards the targeted objectives of creating the right awareness, understanding and appreciation on the importance of acceptance and respect for one another as well as building the bridge towards spearheading the creation of a vibrant and tolerant international community on campus. Guests for the event experienced food from countries such as Indonesia, Thailand, Yemen, Sudan, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Syria, Singapore, Japan, Korea, China as well as Malaysia, represented by the very own Global Network Club of Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. As for the cultural exhibition they were privileged to experience the melting pot of different cultures and tradition from more than 10 countries. They also played traditional games as well as tried their hands on various musical instruments. Apart from them, there was poster presentation by local students who have participated in the student exchange programme. Throughout the event, we at GNC have interviewed UM students from across the world, to gain insight of what they think and like about Malaysia. Enjoy!

Title: A Model of 25 Years of Carbon Exchange and Its Factors in the Harvard Forest Abstract: The temperate forest biosphere is an important reservoir for carbon by accounting for half of the world’s CO2 sink [Battle et al., 2000; IPCC, 2013]. In the face of increasing CO2 emissions from anthropogenic sources, it is essential to study the temperate forest carbon sink to understand how environmental factors of sunlight and temperature control the net drawdown of CO2 over time. This thesis used the Forest Ecosystem Model, a model based on Model-0 in Urbanski et al. (2007), to parametrize the relationship of temperature and sunlight on respiration and photosynthesis in the Harvard Forest, a temperate forest in Petersham, MA [Urbanski et al., 2007]. Parameters representing the contribution of photosynthesis and respiration were quantified in rolling 5-year periods of time by comparing the model’s predicted NEE output to observed NEE measured by the Harvard Forest Environmental Measurement Station (EMS) tower. The null hypothesis, stating that the Forest Ecosystem Model will capture observed NEE using factors of temperature and sunlight, was rejected by winter seasons, suggesting that other factors not accounted-for in the model are needed to fit observed NEE well. Spring and summer seasons did not reject the null hypothesis, indicating that NEE could be well-captured using sunlight and temperature. The model overall was able to capture some of the relationship between seasons, NEE, temperature, and sunlight and pinpoint anomalous years that did not represent the ecosystem as a whole. With future improvements of the model, the Forest Ecosystem Model will have the powerful capability of understanding changes in the ecosystem on the decadal scale and the potential to influence future forest policy. The Virtual Poster Showcase (VPS) is an online poster presentation opportunity hosted by the American Geophysical Union that allows students at the undergraduate and graduate levels to share their research without having to travel to a conference. Students are guided through the essential steps of an in-person scientific conference but in an online and asynchronous environment: abstract submission, poster preparation and presentation, and the peer-review process, during which they learn to evaluate each other’s research. To learn more about how you can participate in Virtual Poster Showcase as a student, faculty member or judge, visit https://virtualposter.agu.org.

Maybe a tiny bit late to hit the web, but here it goes. The video was filmed during the 2013 spring semester on Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY. It is mainly Danish exchange students dancing/jumping/acting like insane people in the video, but a Korean, a guy from Finland and some Americans have a part in it as well.

It’s really quite an ingenious idea: to connect the anti-Israeli sentiment with the anti-police brutality rhetoric. It’s the orientation week in NYU today on August 29, 2014, and whoever is paying this poor guy is getting the worth for his or her buck. Instead of starting a student club, organizing exchange programs, inviting interesting speakers for talks, it is much easier to take advantage of the impoverished and plant the seed of suspicion in the young students’ brains, thereby gaining support in the progressive circles of the future. The University of South Carolina’s (USC’s) marketing materials claim “No Limits” on the student experience—except, it seems, when it comes to constitutional rights. Two student groups learned this unfortunate lesson in November 2015 when they tried to host an educational outdoor event about free speech rights on college campuses. They researched examples of speech that was unconstitutionally censored by colleges across the country and used the examples they found to create visual case studies for discussion with passersby on campus. “We really tried to show the message that, hey, once you give universities the power to decide what’s appropriate and what’s not, they end up abusing that power,” said Michael Kriete, president of the USC chapter of Young Americans for Liberty. After the event, three students filed formal complaints with USC. They claimed that some of the posters the student groups displayed were “offensive” and “triggering.” USC reacted to the complaints by serving Ross Abbott, president of the USC College Libertarians, with a “Notice of Charge” letter and launching an investigation for “discrimination.” The USC administration threatened him with punishment up to and including expulsion for the protected expression he and Michael used as part of their event. Despite the fact that USC approved the student groups’ event beforehand, USC still demanded that Ross meet with an administrator and answer for each poster by justifying the message that he and the others were trying to send. Two weeks later, Ross was notified that the investigation was being dropped, but the USC administration refused to reform the university’s policies that infringe on First Amendment rights, including a policy that limits all expressive activity on campus to unconstitutional “free speech zones.” “Right now, we have an environment where students and faculty members all feel that if you say something that somebody else disagrees with, that you are going to have, or may have to, answer for it, and that’s a problem,” said Ross. “It’s a problem for the free exchange of ideas. It’s a problem for everything college is supposed to be.” That’s why Ross and the USC campus chapters of Young Americans for Liberty and College Libertarians filed a First Amendment lawsuit against USC on February 23, 2016—to make it clear that there can be “No Limits” on student free speech rights on public college campuses.

"The jungle" is one of the best places to watch high school b-ball. The atmosphere is incomparable. The place was packed to the rim and boiling for the January showdown with LHS' bitter rival Free State. The only blemish was a ridiculous poster and the ugly USA! chant both directed towards foreign exchange student Georgi Funtarov. Overall, great place, great fans, great atmosphere! It needs to be experienced.
