An Open Source History: from Linux to Bitcoin's Blockchain | Rusty Russell | TEDxAdelaide

10:08
Blockchains are an exciting solution to an old problem, but the first blockchain was produced and is still maintained by a group of volunteers, releasing world-class software for all to use freely.  Rusty Russell uses his 20 years of experience writing community-produced software to describe how we got here, and just possibly, what will happen in the future. Rusty Russell is an Australian free software programmer and advocate, best known for his work alongside Linux luminaries like Linus Torvalds over the last few decades. He founded the influential linux.conf.au series of conferences in 1999 which continue to this day, and is responsible for dozens of projects which contribute to the productivity of programmers around the world. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx

Creating a Local Bitcoin Testnet / Regtest - Programming Bitcoin

23:19
UPDATE: a few specifics have changed, see below for up-to-date commands In this video we create a local bitcoin testnet within a docker container. Then we'll connect to our testnet from Bitcoin-Qt on our desktop (host) machine. Here's the docker box we're going to use: https://github.com/freewil/bitcoin-testnet-box Essentially, run: docker pull freewil/bitcoin-testnet-box docker run -t -i --name bitcoind -P -p 49020:19000 freewil/bitcoin-testnet-box make start Now we'll have a local testnet we can use for test transactions. Tips: 1FfxymRtVTJbqtFg5ZK9p16mABVFCjqg6J ------------------ It's been a few years since I recorded this and the commands for `freewil/bitcoin-testnet-box` have changed. * Checkout https://github.com/freewil/bitcoin-testnet-box for the latest instructions on how to run that Docker box. * Make sure you expose port 19000, too: `docker run -t -i -p 19000:19000 -p 19001:19001 -p 19011:19011 freewil/bitcoin-testnet-box` * Instead of using bitcoind at 9:31, use: `bitcoin-cli -datadir=1 stop` * To tail the log run: `tail -f 1/regtest/debug.log` * To run BitcoinQT: `/Applications/Bitcoin-Qt.app/Contents/MacOS/Bitcoin-Qt -regtest -dnsseed=0 -connect=0.0.0.0:19000 -datadir=./localnet/ -splash=0` - note the different port and using regtest instead of testnet mode * Now use bitcoin-cli for most functions instead of bitcoind * E.g. `bitcoin-cli -datadir=1 listaccounts` Show less

Pettycoin: Losing Tiny Amounts of Bitcoin At Scale! [linux.conf.au 2014]

49:18
Bitcoin uses a shared ledger: currently 13GB, and fewer nodes will be able to keep up as popularity grows. This talk presents a pre-alpha implementation of an adjunct network where gateways ferry between the current bitcoin network and a new "pettycoin" network, which trades bitcoin's robustness for scalability. When complete, the result should be a network suitable for genuine microtransactions at the rate of thousands per second. Rusty Russell Rusty Russell is a Free Software hacker who created ipchains, iptables and the ACT state election software (EVACS). He wrote and currently maintains the linux kernel module code, the CCAN code repository, and the ntdb database for Samba. He maintains the linux kernel virtio code and wrote the original virtio spec, and chairs the OASIS VirtIO Technical Committee. http://linux.conf.au/schedule/30273/view_talk?day=friday

bitcoin wallet

01:39
bitcoin wallet http://vantekk.com/bitcoins/ The People's Bank of China's (PBOC) announcement on the 5th of December had a snowball effect with more countries and banks publishing their stands on Bitcoin and digital currencies in general. We summarized below the countries which have made official statements on their stand on Bitcoin. USA: The US authorities coined Bitcoin as the currency of choice for criminal activity, and after the Silk Road seizure in October 2013 it was believed Bitcoin would soon be prohibited in the US. The US' opinion on digital currencies changed after US Congress held 2 hearings on Bitcoin. The first hearing resulted in Senator Tom Carpe calling it a "legitimate financial service". The second hearing was held to help government officials get a better understanding on digital currencies and how they are used. Shortly after PBOC's initial announcement, Bank of America released a report calling Bitcoin a "major means of payment for Ecommerce." China: China was believed to have welcomed Bitcoin when local search giant Baidu began accepting Bitcoin in exchange for goods and services in October 2013. Their acceptance was cut short when PBOC announced that using Bitcoin as a currency would be deemed illegal, leaving it to be treated solely as a commodity. PBOC later strengthened their restrictions prohibiting payment service providers from providing payment solutions to local Bitcoin exchanges. It is currently legal to have and trade Bitcoin in China. However it is not possible to add funds to exchanges, or to use Bitcoin as a form of payment. Singapore: In September 2013 The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), published concerns regarding the usage and trading of Bitcoin. The concerns were mainly security and financial issue that may arise. Just recently, MAS informed Singapore-based Bitcoin trading platform Coin Republic they are currently not intending to get involved with businesses who accept Bitcoin. "Whether or not businesses accept bitcoins in exchange for their goods and services is a commercial decision in which MAS does not intervene."There is currently no regulation taxation or restrictions on trading, buying, and selling Bitcoin in Singapore. Korea: Korean financial authorities released earlier on December 10th their stand on virtual currencies. The authorities stated Bitcoin does not have "intrinsic value" and lacks stability. Currently Bitcoin is not illegal in Korea. However officials have pledged to monitor the state of Bitcoin, and will track any illegal uses of it, such as money laundering and purchasing of illegal substances. Denmark: The Financial Supervisory Authority of Denmark released on the 17th of December a statement regarding the risks surrounding Bitcoin. The main concerns were related to security and safety issues, mentioning the unstable fluctuations, and the chance of losing Bitcoins to cybercriminals. While stating their concerns, no mention of illegality was declared, making trading legal and no regulations to be imposed on Bitcoin usage. Norway: Norwegian Director of General Taxation Hans Christian Holte, declared on December 16th that Bitcoin will not be recognized as a legitimate currency, and will be subject to Norwegian taxation. "[Bitcoin] doesn't fall under the usual definition of money or currency." Hans Christian Holte.Holte is rumored to be working with financial sectors from other countries on legitimizing the usage Bitcoin. Switzerland: The Swiss parliament is currently voting on a postulate regarding the recognition of Bitcoin as a legitimate currency. There is no word yet on the Swiss parliament's decision. bitcoin value bitcoin miner what is bitcoin bitcoin wallet bitcoin to usd bitcoin wiki bitcoin market bitcoin forum bitcoin difficulty buy bitcoin bitcoin central bitcoin faucet bitcoin pool earn bitcoins bitcoin mining pool bitcoin.org wiki bitcoin bitcoin forums bitcoin client bitcoin watch bitcoin buy, bitcoin otc bitcoin trade bitcoin scam bitcoin rates bitcoin gpu bitcoin ubuntu bitcoin.conf bitcoin linux bitcoin block explorer trade bitcoins buy a bitcoin bitcoin sell bitcoin blocks bitcoin port bitcoin cuda http://youtu.be/zDn0PUwBFFk http://youtu.be/qoK7JdMSPtM bitcoin wallet

Beginner's guide to solo bitcoin and litecoin mining, using cgminer and bfgminer

Newbie guide for those who want to try solo bitcoin and litecoin mining, using bfgminer and cgminer. The config files shown in the video are available in the readme or example files of the mining folder, but some of them won't be. For the rpcuser etc it's just a case of typing into a regular txt file and renaming it to a .conf file. Make sure you download the latest version of cgminer (I have noticed the 3.8 version doesn't work well with scrypt, but unsure if it has been completely unsupported, I just use 3.6.6) and bfgminer or it's likely to fail. trade bitcoins http://vantekk.com/bitcoins/ So What Exactly Is a Bitcoin Anyway? Complete Breakdown of Bitcoin By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Daniel_A_Young]Daniel A Young There's virtual money, and then there's Bitcoin. The super geeky Bitcoin is a mathematically-derived currency that promises to change the way people use money. Bitcoins are not real coins-they're strings of code locked with military-grade encryption-and people who use them to buy and sell goods and services are difficult to trace. Along with anonymous drug dealers, Ashton Kutcher and the Winklevoss twins have reportedly jumped on the bandwagon. There's something to be said about using currency that isn't regulated by the government or banks, doesn't come with the usual transaction fees and is impossible to counterfeit. Bitcoin also promises to be disaster-proof, because you can't destroy numbers in the same way that you can destroy gold reserves or paper money. What is Bitcoin? Bitcoin is a digital currency created in 2009 by a developer hiding under the pseudonym of Satoshi Nakamoto (supposedly a Japanese guy who has perfect command of American English). Bitcoin is decentralized, meaning it is not controlled by a central authority like a financial institution, country, government or individual. It is peer-to-peer and open-source, distributed across the internet from computer to computer, without need for middlemen. Compared to U.S. dollars, Bitcoin is virtually untraceable, making it attractive to libertarians afraid of government meddling and denizens of the underworld. You can use it to pay for purchases online and off, from illegal drugs on the Silk Road to legit restaurant meals. Where to Get Bitcoins You can get Bitcoins from friends, online giveaways or by buying them with real money from Bitcoin exchanges. Using real money to buy Bitcoins defeats the whole purpose of anonymity, however, because you may need to add your bank account to a third party site. You can also buy Bitcoins using your mobile phone or through cash deposit establishments. New Bitcoins are created by "mining." Mining is done automatically by computers or servers-it's not real-world mining where you have to dig underground to unearth commodities, but the concept is similar. You have to exert effort to dig up gold, and you (or your machine) also have to spend time and resources to verify and record Bitcoin transactions. One of the coolest things about Bitcoin is that it gets its value not from real-world items, but from codes. Bitcoins are pulled out of the ether by machines (and the people who run them) in exchange for solving complex mathematical problems related to the current number of Bitcoins. These bulky and pricey supercomputers come with powerful encryption capabilities (and reportedly suck electricity like nobody's business). In a typical transaction, buyer A from location X pays seller B some Bitcoins online. Miners then race to authenticate and encrypt the transaction, logging Bitcoin codes in a central server. Whomever solves the puzzle first gets the Bitcoins. About 25 new Bitcoins are created for every 10-minute block, but that number can increase or decrease depending on how long the network runs. How to Use Bitcoins Once you get your hands on some Bitcoins, you need to store them in an online wallet through a computer program or a third-party website. You become part of the Bitcoin network once you create your virtual wallet. To send Bitcoins to another user or pay for online purchases, get that person/seller's identification number and transfer Bitcoins online. Processing takes about a few minutes to an hour, as Bitcoin miners across the globe verify the transaction. Author of blog, [http://www.CashSherpa.com]http://www.CashSherpa.com, is Daniel Young. E para fechar, será que saberemos quem é o misterioso criador do Bitcoin? — Jaydson Gomes, curador e editor Loja BrazilJS: https://loja.braziljs.org Portal BrazilJS: https://braziljs.org Se inscreva na newsletter: https://braziljs.org/#weekly Twitter: https://twitter.com/braziljs Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/braziljs Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/brazil.js 0:26 - Ingressos para a BrazilJS Conf https://braziljs.org/eventos/braziljs-conf/2019/ 1:10 - Introducing `now dev` – Serverless, on localhost: https://zeit.co/blog/now-dev 1:53 - LoveMaio - Elixir Brasil, CapiConf, BrazilJS, Fyre Festival, @compsemcao e mais: https://anchor.fm/lovelacepodcast/episodes/LoveMaio---Elixir-Brasil--CapiConf--BrazilJS--Fyre-Festival--compsemcao-e-mais-e3tfk2 03:45 - Expired certificate broke all Firefox add-ons: https://www.techspot.com/news/79937-expired-certificate-broke-all-firefox-add-ons.html 04:28 - Where in the World Is Satoshi?: https://gotsatoshi.com/ 05:53 - Microsoft launches Visual Studio Online, an online code editor: https://techcrunch.com/2019/05/06/microsoft-launches-visual-studio-online-an-online-code-editor/ 08:02 - Microsoft is building Internet Explorer into its new Chromium Edge, adding new features: https://www.theverge.com/2019/5/6/18527875/microsoft-chromium-edge-new-features-build-2019 09:36 - Windows 10 will soon ship with a full, open source, GPLed Linux kernel: https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2019/05/windows-10-will-soon-ship-with-a-full-open-source-gpled-linux-kernel/ 11:40 - Call For Pappers - DevParaná Conf 2019 http://bit.ly/c4pdevpr2019 12:42 - Frase da semana: "A primary cause of complexity is that software vendors uncritically adopt almost any feature that users want" - Niklaus Wirth

bitcoin pool http://vantekk.com/bitcoins/ How to Earn Bitcoin Online By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Sid_T_Kid]Sid T Kid If you want to earn Bitcoin online, this is a post that will help you do just that. Bitcoin is the world's first peer to peer crypto-currency that isn't controlled by any central issuing agency but is rather an open source protocol that is followed by all the people who participate in the economy. No one can manipulate the supply of Bitcoins and all transactions that take place in this economy are cryptographically verified through a process called Bitcoin mining. Your Bitcoins are as secure as public key cryptography can be. Once you understand and appreciate the concept of Bitcoin, the next logical question is, how do you earn some Bitcoin? Here are some ideas - Make money online and convert them to Bitcoin Believe it or not, it is still much easier to make US Dollars! You can then exchange these dollars you make for Bitcoin at any of the exchanges such as Bitstamp or Coinbase if you're located in the US. Earn Bitcoin Directly in the Bitcoin economy There is a small but very vibrant community where you can do most tasks, but at a much smaller scale. For instance, you can take up a part-time job for Bitcoin on Coinality or you can end up with a small gig on Coingig. These are real life equivalent of sites like Elance and Fiverr but in the Bitcoin ecosystem. Advertising The advertising industry in the Bitcoin economy is, not surprisingly, pretty robust. This is because there are ton of new Bitcoin based services that keep coming up all the time and they all need a good advertising network. CoinURL allows you to place Google AdSense styled ads on your website and other services like Bitads lets advertisers bid for banner space on your blog. There is also a-ads that allows you to make money through ad impressions without reference to the clicks (so it isn't PPC). If you're a publisher - blogger or webmaster, you can earn some Bitcoins through this route. Going Social There are sites that will pay you for your activity. CoinChat is perhaps the best known site in this category. It pays users a few milli-Bitcoins for chatting on their site. These are random and controlled by an algorithm that takes into account your activity and how well you're contributing to the discussions at hand. Another way in which a lot of Bitcoin enthusiasts earn some Bitcoin is by selling their forum signatures at Bitcointalk forums. There are a good number of advertisers who are willing to do this, and for the socially active member who values interaction through this forum (it is the same forum through which Satoshi Nakamoto introduced Bitcoin to the world), selling signatures can be lucrative.
