This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/ Transcript: This short Library video will help you cite an Article from a Periodical in APA style. Let's use this example of an article that we found online. To create a reference, we need to make sure that we have all of the information that is required for an article to be cited in APA style. This includes Author, Year, Article Title, Journal Title, Volume, Issue and page numbers. This is the standard format. First let's find the author's name. Next, we need the year of publication. Next, we need the article title. ... and the journal title. Now, for the volume and issue. Hmmm. Can't find it? Where else can you look? Let's go back to our results where we found the article to see if it gives us more information. There it is. The page number is here, too. When looking for bibliographic information to cite a journal article, check: - First Page - Footer - Search Results Page Online articles follow the same rules as printed articles. However, you also need to provide either the DOI or the URL so that your reader can find the source. You can usually find the DOI on the first page of the electronic journal article in the header or footer. If the electronic journal article doesn't have a DOI use the URL of the journal homepage. Need help? Ask Us. Chat, email, phone, or drop by. This concludes the library video on how to cite an Article from a Periodical in APA style.

How to cite a journal article found online in APA format.. Simple method

04:04
APA format for a journal article found online Author, A.A.. (Publication Year). Article title. Periodical Title, Volume(Issue), pp.-pp. doi:XX.XXXXX or Retrieved from journal URL Notes: When creating your online journal article citation, keep in mind: APA does NOT require you to include the date of access/retrieval date or database information for electronic sources. You can use the URL of the journal homepage if there is no DOI assigned and the reference was retrieved online. Example: Retrieved from http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/journal/10.1111/(ISSN)1467-8535;jsessionid=956132F3DE76EEB120577E99EE74CE9C.f04t01 A DOI (digital object identifier) is an assigned number that helps link content to it’s location on the Internet. It is therefore important, if one is provided, to use it when creating a citation. All DOI numbers begin with a 10 and are separated by a slash. about APA style : APA (American Psychological Association) style is most frequently used within the social sciences, in order to cite various sources. How to find Full Text in ERIC

03:25
So, once we've done our search, we can take a look at what we've found. I can click on the title of this first article to get more information about it. It will give me an abstract or summary of what it's about to help me decide if it's relevant to my topic. It also gives me all the information about the author, publication information, and more. You can also click on any of the subjects listed here to do a new search for articles with that subject. If the full text of the article is available, it should show up on the left side. But, if you scroll down, you'll also see that there is a link for Full Text from ERIC, which will link you to the document in the ERIC digital library. You'll also see this in your results list. In some cases, the full text of the article may not be available in ERIC. (#5) For example, let's take a look at this article. There isn't a link for PDF full text or full text from ERIC, so I want to check Journal Finder to see if we have the full text somewhere else. So I'll click in Check Journal Finder for Full Text...which will open Journal Finder. This tells us that we own this journal, and we have online access to it, so i can click the computer icon to see what issues we have. This tells me that we have access to this journal from 1997 all the way up to the most current issue. The dates here are important - sometimes we will not have the issue that you need, especially if the article is very new or very old. This article is from 2011, so we should have access to it. I can click on the article title, which should take me to the full text. Sometimes this link doesn't work, though, and you need to go to the journal home page and find the volume and issue number that you need, then find the article in that issue. In this case, we can scroll down through the list to find the article that we need and download the PDF here. Sometimes, we simply do not have the journal or particular journal issue that you need. (#3) If you click on Journal Finder and get a message like this, then you will need to place an Interlibrary Loan request for the article. Click on the ILL link here or on the library home page, and fill out the information here about the article that you need. Make sure to include your name and email. We will request the article from another library for you. You should receive an email within 1-3 days informing you that your article is available.

Well, good news! The library may still have access to it. To find your article through the e-journals list, you’ll need The article title The author The journal title The volume and issue number the year For example, we’re looking for Posttruth, Truthiness, and Alternative Facts: Information Behavior and Critical Information Consumption for a New Age, by Cooke published in The Library Quarterly. Missing some of the information? You can try Googling it to fill in the gaps. Now that you have all of the information you need, let’s find your article! Step 1: Go to the University of Guelph Library homepage. Hover over the “find” tab. Under “Find by Name of Resource” select “E-journals A-Z”. Step 2: Search the journal title We’re searching for The Library Quarterly. Make sure to carefully check the search results for your title. Some titles are very similar. Protip: The e-journal list tells you if a journal is peer-reviewed. Step 3: Click the journal title. A menu will appear on the right side. It shows your options for accessing this journal through the library. Check the availability of each option to make sure that you’ll be able to access the correct years. Each option may provide access to different dates of publication. Our article was published in 2017. We will click the first option because it provides access from 2004 until present. Look for exclusions in access dates. For example, the second option in this list excludes the most recent four years. Step 4: Once you’ve clicked the link, you will leave the library’s website and be taken to a website that houses the full text of the journal. Here you can locate your article. You can search the article title in the search box to see if it appears. But sometimes we’re not so lucky and we have to look for the article by browsing through the volume and issue numbers. Look for options like “Archived issues” or “past issues” or “All volumes and Issue.” These will likely provide you with a full list of contents within each volume for all the available dates. Click on the year your article was published, then find the volume and issue For example, our article was published in 2017, in volume 87, issue 3. Now scroll through the list to find your article! Not all journal websites or databases look the same but most have common features like a search bar and a way to browse past issues. Need help? Ask Us. Email. Chat or drop by.

Who wrote this and where did I find it? Citation and Referencing Tips

03:34
[Title] Who wrote this and where did I find it? Citation and Referencing Tips When you take ideas from someone else’s work and incorporate those ideas into your own work, you need to give credit to the author. If you don’t, you are passing that author’s ideas or words off as your own, and that is plagiarism. To avoid plagiarism, you must cite a source when you quote, paraphrase, or summarize it, use charts, graphs or images from it, or include facts that you learned from a source that are not common knowledge. In-text citations should appear in the body of your assignment, and all sources used must be included in a reference list at the end of your paper. A reader should easily be able to identify all of the sources that you used in writing your assignment. In order to avoid plagiarism, you should start your research early. Rushing makes you more likely to lose track of sources, take shortcuts, or cite improperly. Make sure that you also take meticulous notes. Be sure to include all the required information for each source so that you don’t forget which source your notes came from. Careful citation and referencing are the best way to avoid plagiarism. When you’re looking at a search result, review it carefully to determine what type of resource you are using, for example a book, video, or article. There may be visual clues, such as an icon illustrating the resource type. The resource type is important because different information is required for referencing different types of resources. If you have found an item from a database, look for a Cite button in the database. You can click this button to form a basic reference for the item, but remember that it’s your responsibility to verify that the reference format is correct according to your required citation style. A full reference for an article includes the title, the author’s name, the name of the journal that the article was published in, the date of publication, the journal volume and issue numbers, page numbers for the article, and the DOI, if there is one. Note that the DOI, also known as the digital object identifier, is often found in the detailed record for the article but sometimes it can only be found when you click through to look at the full text of the article. A full reference for a book includes the book’s title, the author or editor’s name, the place and date of publication, the publisher’s name, and any other information that may be required. A full reference for a video includes the video’s title, the place and date of publication, any producer, director, or writer’s name, and any other information that may be required. A full reference for a web resource always includes the web address or URL, the title, the date of publication or last update to the page, and the name of the author, creator, or owner. Referencing web resources can be complicated, and you may require other pieces of information. Consult a referencing guide for more examples. Remember that there are many citation styles. Some common styles are APA, MLA, Chicago, and Turabian. Different fields of study have particular style preferences. If you’re asked to use APA, which is commonly used at Georgian, check out the APA Guide on the library website at library.georgiancollege.ca/citing. It provides help with constructing in-text citations and reference pages.
NoodleTools: Journal Article Citation

03:07
This tutorial describes how to generate an APA citation using NoodleTools. Let’s open an existing NoodleTools project and create a citation for a journal article. To begin, click “Sources” at the top of the page and select “Create new citation”. To cite a journal article, select “Print of in hand” and click “Journal” to access the Template. If you have a digital object identifier or doi, enter it. If there is no doi, leave this field blank. Enter each author’s first and middle initial – if provided, and last name. Select “Add another contributor” if there are multiple authors. Enter the article title in the appropriate field. If NoodleTools flags an entry, check why and correct any errors. Enter the page range, journal title, volume, issue, and year of publication. Refer to your APA manual if you are not sure what to include in a citation. Click “Save” to generate a citation and add it to the project’s reference list. If you need to make changes to your citations, use the Edit feature. You can also add annotations to a citation by selecting “Edit annotation” and typing in your annotation text. Rather than copying the reference list directly from the NoodleTools page, it is recommended that you download your list to Word. Otherwise it may not format properly. You can now copy and paste your reference list into your paper.

The Humane Society Wants to Ban Reptiles

19:56
The Humane Society of the United States seems to be very unfair in their misinformation constantly spread around online about reptiles. They have very strict and unreasonable views towards snakes, lizards, turtles, and so on, claiming they make terrible pets, cannot be cared for, and so on. Subscribe! http://bit.ly/CENOnline Refrigeration is a staple of modern living—we use refrigerants in air conditioners, aerosol spray cans, and, well, refrigerators. But it turns out that the most popular refrigerants of the 20th century depleted the ozone and had high global warming potentials. In episode 21 of Speaking of Chemistry, Sophia Cai takes a look at the pros and cons of new refrigerants recently approved by the Environmental Protection Agency to be used as more environmentally friendly alternatives. What is the Circular Economy?

01:01
The circular economy is a new paradigm of industrial organization that could eliminate 100 million tons of waste globally in the next five years alone. Learn more: http://cmr.berkeley.edu/browse/articles/60_3/ In a circular economy, materials are reused as much as possible. And new business models can promote resource efficiency by maximizing the value of what we already produce. There are five major characteristics of a circular economy: 1. Circular supply chain. All products should be designed to use fully recyclable or biodegradable materials. 2. Recovery and recycling. All waste byproducts should be optimized for revenue potential. 3. Build products to last. Discourage replacement of products by using durable materials, and offering to refurbish, refill, or repair. 4. Sharing platform. Let multiple customers use the same resources. Most cars sit idle for 92% of the time. Ride sharing is more efficient than individual ownership. 5. Product-as-a-Service model: Companies can be incentivized to consider longer product lifecycles by leasing products, instead of selling them. Michelin now sells tires as a service, where customers pay by miles driven. Based on the article "Introducing a Circular Economy: New Thinking with New Managerial and Policy Implications" by Mark Esposito, Terence Tse, and Khaled Soufani For more information, please read California Management Review's special issue on the Circular Economy (Volume 60, Issue 3) Volume 60, Issue 3 http://cmr.berkeley.edu/browse/articles/60_3/ Subscribe http://cmr.berkeley.edu/subscribe Follow us https://www.facebook.com/californiamanagementreview/
